I find it nice he's getting his head up, and talking to the media more, he seems like he's really learned humility, and I think that'll take him far.

Just shows what kind of men RR is making these guys into.
Tate was arrogant and selfish at first and now has become humble as can be.
Great to know our players have such good relations with each other and are always in it for the team.
On a side note, another thing that made me proud to be a wolverine was Tom Bradys interview about being MVP this season. He said he doesn't even know why the award exists when its a team sport, and the only award he is worried about is the superbowl ring. Whereas Vick said he should be the leading candidate for the award.
Really shows the values we instill in our players.

There is no doubt about that. Look and listen to most of the former players. They all agree, the Big House humbles a smart @ssed kid in a hurry. Dont forget the JH was a little cocky in his day as well. UM has magical powers to mold kids into respectable men on and off the turf.

Class through and through, rarely gives the other team "bulletin board material," always deflecting credit onto his teammates. One can see why the other Patriots are so happy to be playing with him.
Does anyone else think Belichek's media conference style is reminiscent of Bo's and Lloyd's? I'm showing my age by preferring that clamped-down-don't-give-them-a-damn-thing presentation. Be that as it may, I appreciate all that Tate said -- he shows a great deal of introspectiion and maturity.

A full review of MGoBlog content should be a prerequisite for anybody who wishes to share their opinions about the football program. After reading a few obnoxiously uninformed comments on that article I wanted to punch the screen.

I got a jersey last year when Tate was starting. If I could justify dropping the cash for a #16 too, I would. But in the meantime, I am PROUD to wear this kid's #5.

I love the fact that the coaches on this team are all aligned to the same message. That is a clear indicator of leadership, the communication of a message such that each member of the team speaks to the same message.
I don't expect any changes to this coaching staff. They are demonstrating they are excellent Football Teachers at the college level. The wins are the final product of that effort, and I don't see any reason not to expect success at the level of a Big Ten Championship next year.
But again to these messages, they are incredibly well crafted. There is little to twist or read into them. And the control of the reporters who get access to the team in the past month is an indicator also. This quote from Coach Smith is great.

After reading this and the Freep version, I am not really optimistic about the way Tate comes across. He had a chance to dispel the transfer possibilities once and for all but says (from the freep interview) "It is what it is". And in this article he says he decided after the UConn game to at least stay through this year, and didn't address the future at all. This even further confirms my suspicion that he will transfer.

Sounds like your talking yourself into it. Tate saying "it is what it is" is him saying I know I f*cked up and handled the situation badly but the media does it the way they want so screw it I'm here now and thats the way its going to be.
He may/may not transfer but from his other quotes it seems he realizes the value of NOT transferring as it didnt get his brothers anyware. I've said it before if that family truly wants to get a son into the NFL then they will leave Tate where he is at. You can make the NFL as a 2nd string QB @ Michigan but you cannot make it by going to Furman (not to say its not possible just infinitely harder, sorry Chris).

Other than Dreisbach, who saw a lot of time at UM, how many UM QB's have been backup's for most of their career (senior year included) and gone on to the nfl?
Dreisbach also had the prototypical QB body the nfl looks for: 6'4" and 215 lbs. Cassell at USC was a career back-up but he too is similiar in size and weight to Dreisbach.
Oh yeah - both Dreisbach and Cassell played in pro style offenses. I'm not sure the nfl is going to look to hard at Forcier if he's a career backup at UM. Especially given his height and the fact that he's not playing/practicing in a pro style offense.

The answer to your question is probably none. It's also worth noting that the answer is irrelevant.
Tate will get invited to the NFL Combine. Why? Because NFL teams need quarterbacks and they're willing to give kids a chance. Tate will catch on somewhere.
For God's sake, Drew Stanton started in the NFL this year. Joe Webb is starting tonight. Charlie Whitehurst has played in games this year, and Matt Moore started the season for Carolina. If those guys can get cups of coffee in the NFL, Tate has the potential to get a whole freaking pot.

Agree with your assessment - size looks good, but more teams are realizing that like baseball and "Moneyball" how a player looks is only part of the issue. Too many QBs look great with tape measure (JaMarcus Russell, Ryan Leaf, Alkali Smith, Alex Smith, etc.) but just can't play. Other guys look like they should be selling shirts at the MDen (Danny Woodhead, Wes Welker, Doug Flutie) but are actual NFL pros. Flutie is an example of guy who didn't get a good shot until late in his career. When he was with Buffalo, they were within one fluke play (Music City Miracle - which was totally a forward lateral by the way :)) from another Super Bowl appearance. He won games with his arm, feet and head. But somehow the powers that be thought the other guy (who looked the part, Rob Johnson, USC, 6-4, etc.) was the guy.
Small QBs from lesser programs don't get many looks, but if you played on a strong program you'll get teams willing to give you a look and a chance.

I read both accounts. The Detroit News was more of a summary and the Free Press version seemed to quote at greater length. He showed great honesty and humility.
It was nice to hear Tate Forcier take the issues head on: was he thinking about transferring, was he unhappy or disappointed he was not starting at QB, does he have any animosity with Denard, was he not as well prepared as he could have been, etc. He tackled each of these and he didn't seem try to duck or be elusive about his answers. He admitted that he let the early success go to his head and that he didn't crack down and work as hard as he could and as he should have both in his studies and in the off season. He also admitted that Denard Robinson did a great job and deserved to be number one.
Some of the other posters seem to doubt whether he has closed the door on transferring. I suppose one can never say never, and if some great program came up with a great offer (? which I suppose would be considered tampering?) he might consider but it sounds like he thinks he'll be here for the duration. He seems to appreciate that he will get the chance to play ( it would be hard to believe anyone can play at the pace needed and survive a whole season without missing some time at QB) and wants to play with a good team that has great potential.
You have to have some confidence to play QB, so I'm sure he still believes that he can be a number 1 QB somewhere but give the young man credit and for his family (it sounds like his dad and older brothers were major influences on the whole transfer issue) to sticking it out. In the long run I think he'll always have a spot in the hearts of Michigan fans. It might not have ended as we had hoped but his 4-0 run in 2009 was memorable. I still believe that had Michigan gone for two against MSU rather than playing for over time we might have upset them in East Lansing in 2009.
