Ummm... I think he meant to say, " I smoked a ton of pot, and forgot to show up for class. I wish I had better priorities and I wish I could have this chance of a lifetime back. Sorry for screwing this one up...My bad."

This reeks of the same shadiness Justin Boren espoused when he departed.  Only difference is that Boren's fingers are too damn fat to tweet.

Tate, as long as you don't suit up in the scarlet and gray, we cool.

I was thinking the exact same thing.  Totally reminded me of Boren's shady situation.  FWIW, and I don't know what can be believed, but I did hear that his grades weren't the concern or reason he wasn't taken to the bowl game.  I had heard that it was another "situation" that was deemed to be against team rules that caused him to be left behind.  Now whether that's pot smoking, or stealing a 10 year olds Razor scooter and riding it around on campus naked, I have no idea.  I think Tate needs to put his life back together though and grow the hell up already.

A 35 minute "tweet conference" starting at midnight? On one hand you want to call him an attention grabber but at the same time, doing this so late at night isn't the best way to draw an audience (save mgobloggers apparently). I think this is just a kid who realizes he threw away the opportunity of a lifetime. From not working hard enough in practice to flunking out of school. I wish the best for him and hope he gets things back on track wherever he ends up.

Dont hate on Tate. Maybe it was too much for him. Michigan academics are no joke. You have to applaud him for praising the fans, the moments, and his memories at U of M instead of trashing the school like others.

Like Tate said, it was time to go. Probably saw the writing on the wall with Denard and Devin. Plus a new coach, getting his grades together, etc.

I wish nothing but the best for Tate. We'll all remember his game vs Notre Dame.

Maybe I'd feel differently if he hadn't run his mouth in the press two days before being declared academically ineligible that all you had to do was show up and you'd be eligible.

Tate, like it or not, has opened himself up to a lot, and throwing a one-man tweet conference at midnight on a Wednesday to dramatically announce you're leaving a team you're not even on anymore strikes me as...  Not incredibly surprising.

Unless Hoke/Borges told Tate that he might want to look at transferring, I'd think Tate would have been fairly excited about the new coaches.  Tate's game to me fits much better in the type of offenses that Borges has run than the offense that McGee and RR were running.

I tend to take anything his dad says with a grain of salt, but yes it was accademic related, rumor mill around campus was that he did not turn in any of his finals/papers at the end of this past semester.

I know a current player and when I asked him, "Okay seriously, what did Tate DO?" he replied, "Uhh, what DIDN'T he do."  The tone from this particular player (which he implied was echoed by the rest of the team) was one of being fed up with Tate's antics on and off the field.

Eh , Don't let the door hit ya..

After he ran that BS interview and then didn't even get to go to the bowl game , thats when he lost me. The whole " all you gotta do is show up to class" ...

Tom Brady had a few rough years at michigan as well.

Those who are champions will stay.

Tate is ridiculous. This year, he came up to me while I was walking past Dennison and asked me hectically "Dude, do you know where the Chem building is? I have a fucking exam in 5 minutes."

I told him where it was, but WTF, you've been on campus for 2 years and don't know where the Chem building is?

hmm, this all seems vaguely familiar...(cough)Jason(cough)  Oh well you know what they say  "Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me, fool me three times and roofies were involved"

I wasn't trying to make the comparison academically.  The Forciers are devoted to themselves being quarterbacks first and foremost.  If you doubt this please check out thier website.  If the school is not compliant in fulfilling this destiny they will find one that is. Tate's roadblock at Michigan is obviously different than Jasons, but the result will be the same. I really thought Tate would be able to pass Denard on the depth chart in Borges offense.  Sadly that is now water under the bridge, irrelevant, moot.  The word "bollocks"  was invented to express how I feel right now.

Maybe Brady Hoke came in, saw he had 2 young competent, high-character qbs to work with and decided he didn't want to put up with some punk ass, prima donna kid who had had multiple off the field issues and multiple "growing-up experiences," none of which seem to make a difference one month down the road... Consider what a QB at the University of Michigan has to do to fail out of the school. The resources offered to (and often forced upon) student athletes, especially football players are extremely vast including mandatory study table hours, tutors for every subject.

To get kicked out of school, he didnt get a 1.6... he had to have gotten substantially lower than that, likely failing multiple classes. I know its not cool to bash 20 year old kids (even though he is the same age as me) but honestly, Tate has been cancerous to the team since last spring when it was rumored he was losing his job to Denard. His work ethic dissipated (evident by his lack of wings on his helmet) and we all heard about his attitude issues off the field. I think the team is better off moving on without him.

Oh, and one more thing... the definition of "Michigan Man" has been discussed ad nasium over the past 3 months. I think we can agree that a Michigan Man earns that title through hard work and dedication, not self proclamation.

Per Tates Twitter: " Tate Forcier #5 - A Michigan Man Forever - Go Blue!

How about: "Tate Forcier #5 - A Michigan Man? Never. - Go Blue!"

Focker Out!

A student can be dismissed for having a 1.6 GPA (term or overall). Check out the Kinesiology bulletin (page 79 for academic probation):

At the end of each term the records of all students whose term or overall grade point average has fallen below a 2.000 are reviewed by the Academic Review Committee for academic probation actions. Each student placed on academic probation is dealt with on an individual basis.

Now, from the dismissal section:

Students who have been on Probation or Probation with Warning may be dismissed from Kinesiology if they are not making adequate progress toward achieving a cumulative grade point average of 2.000. On occasion, a student may be dismissed without ever having been placed on probation. This includes students not following Kinesiology degree programs and/or not enrolled in a Kinesiology degree program beginning their junior year.

When reaching a decision involving academic dismissal, Kinesiology considers the student’s academic career and progress toward their degree as well as any extenuating circumstances.

Students who are dismissed are encouraged to meet with the Director of Student Services to discuss options. Appeals may be submitted if additional information (not previously recorded) is available. Students may petition the Director of Students Services for reinstatement after one full semester with supporting documentation for academic success upon return. Typically students require two semesters to document readiness to return.

I know you can get kicked out for a 1.6 but I am telling you that he didn't get a 1.6. If you think that the review board would kick a football player, especially someone like Tate, out of school for a 1.6 you're mistaken. The school wouldn't kick a scholarship long jumper out of the school with a 1.6. I know what he got and let's just say that if the board felt like they could make an excuse to keep him in school they would have, but they couldn't. None of this changes my initial point that tate was a detriment to the team for a while and was attracting negative attention to himself and the team. I wish him the best in the future, but I am also relieved he is gone.
