Tate needs everyone's support.

We, and especially the coaching staff, need to support Tate this week. This is a game that will shake his confidence severely, especially not being in the game at the end. I understand RR benching him and yelling at him for his last drive, but 19 year old kids can be emotionally on the edge. I would have preferred RR to console him after that drive the way he consoled Denard after the INT. There will be a lot of yelling and finger pointing this week, and we have to realize this kid is the main reason why we are 4-2 at this point, so everyone back off of him. This is an important point of the season and potentially, his year.

Somewhat agree. Tate's shown such coachability and a resilience that I think RR knows he can push harder. He might seem like a dictator (Viva WLA!) screaming at a little kid, but he knows his players and what wil make them better as opposed to break them. Tate came back emotionally from throwing the pick in OT last game just fine, and I think especially with Delaware St. coming up next week he'll be good to go. Kid's a trooper.

but I think tate was getting a little too far off the ranch and not doing what he'd been coached by RR to do. When things start to get hard, you tend to fall back on your instincts. (that's what she said) Like that 3rd down play in the endzone. we really needed 5 yards get some room for a punt, but tate chucked it up. I know herbie said he liked the call, but it's just too much of a risk of the INT getting taken back, I don't think that's what RR called. If you call that kind of punt/pass, you usually send more receivers to that same area and tell one of them to make sure of the tackle.

In the spirit of the thread, i agree that it's crucial to not throw Tate under the bus for the clunker he threw tonight (both as fans, and the coaching staff).

there's a lot to be worked on this week. time to regroup, watch the film, and get ready to come home for DSU.

I'd like to be the first to ask the question of who starts next week? It's probably not the first thought to cross people minds, but if RichRod is trying to send Tate a message, and if Denard needs some confidence . . . why not let Denard start next week? Or is that too radical?

For TATE's confidence and just getting back on a positive track (after the INT v. MSU and then the game today), Tate should start against Delaware State for at least 2 or 3 drives. He'll probably dominate them...and then let him come out. Or keep him in there for most of the 1st half and let him remember what it's like to dominate.

Then let Denard come in and get meaningful snaps, both running and throwing. I really want him to get a passing TD this season and next week will probably be the best time for that.

Predictions for next week?

He was mad about poor clock management. When Michigan had the ball on their own 1 yard line, Minor was forced to take burn a TO because Tate didn't get it snapped early enough. On the next drive Tate got a delay of game. When the pace of play is such an important part of your attack, a QB who isn't getting the ball snapped quickly enough brings the offense to a grinding halt.

QB coaches and offensive coordinators are for. We need some good cop/bad cop action.

Did you ever see that movie "Crimson Tide" with gene hackman and denzel washington?

Some coaches are 'pat ya on the back' types. Other's are like hackman's character. When the heat's on, they like to turn it up even hotter to see what you're made of. It's just a particular style of motivation.

Personally, I think the second type are usually more successful in football.

Will Helicopter Ben swoop in and bailout Tate and the Wolverines? I think that's what you meant when you were trying to explain America, right?

about what Tate said coming off the field said it all....."Coach I don't know what you want me to do"

Any coach, and I mean ANY coach, sits a player for that, especially his QB. I knew then Denard would be QB the rest of whatever game was left.

Tate will be fine, this was not his best game. Early on he was making poor decisions all night.

Honestly, RR made the right call at the end.

Clearly Tate and Denard both suck and are lost causes. Let's use Delaware State to try to build Nick Sheridan some confidence for the rest of the year.

I mean, seriously- do people read that and think he's serious? Sigh. We should have a sarcasm quiz for negging privileges. People shouldn't have to put "/sarcasm" at the end of such a comment for something so blatantly sarcastic because dumb people don't get it.

There's a thin line for some between understanding obvious sarcasm and their sanity.

Oh Well maybe he should have said platoon Sheridan and Kennedy???

Everyone has a plan...until they get punched in the mouth.

We knew he'd have a "freshman" game at some point and tonight was it. He had two costly turnovers but it's not the end of the world. Tate is the starter and let's not forget about the great things he has done to give us hope this season going forward. Both he and Robinson are only going to get better. Go Blue!

We, and especially the coaching staff, need to support Tate this week. This is a game that will shake his confidence severely, especially not being in the game at the end. I understand RR benching him and yelling at him for his last drive, but 19 year old kids can be emotionally on the edge.

Someone better forward this to RR's email address. I'm sure the OP has a better idea of how to treat RR's players than RR himself does.

Call me crazy, but I feel like Denard needs support more than Tate. Name me a fan that doesn't absolutely love Tate. In Denard's case on the other hand, every time he goes in, people moan, swear, and make comments about his lack of throwing ability. I'm sure the fact that the press all over America is publishing stories concerning how he shouldn't have been in after leading a successful drive is just fantastic for his confidence. People love Denard when he makes a big run, but trash the shit out of him when he doesn't. This is an 18 year old kid who would have redshirted in almost any other situation.

For today, goodbye. For tomorrow, good luck. And forever, Go Blue.
