We, and especially the coaching staff, need to support Tate this week. This is a game that will shake his confidence severely, especially not being in the game at the end. I understand RR benching him and yelling at him for his last drive, but 19 year old kids can be emotionally on the edge. I would have preferred RR to console him after that drive the way he consoled Denard after the INT. There will be a lot of yelling and finger pointing this week, and we have to realize this kid is the main reason why we are 4-2 at this point, so everyone back off of him. This is an important point of the season and potentially, his year.
Tate needs everyone's support.
I think the team needs support and not these idiot remarks from people saying RR is dumb or Denard sucks.
Otherwise sort of agree.
but you're a douche. First your tag reads something like, "Please, I have suffered enough". Now it's "negged elitist"? Wow buddy
Well that actually was pretty dickish.
Nobody thinks RR is dumb and no one thinks Denard sucks. I think people just believe that Forcier has earned the right to be the starter.
Somewhat agree. Tate's shown such coachability and a resilience that I think RR knows he can push harder. He might seem like a dictator (Viva WLA!) screaming at a little kid, but he knows his players and what wil make them better as opposed to break them. Tate came back emotionally from throwing the pick in OT last game just fine, and I think especially with Delaware St. coming up next week he'll be good to go. Kid's a trooper.
We dont know what was possibly said on the sidelines, but obviously RR was hot at Tate for some reason.
but I think tate was getting a little too far off the ranch and not doing what he'd been coached by RR to do. When things start to get hard, you tend to fall back on your instincts. (that's what she said) Like that 3rd down play in the endzone. we really needed 5 yards get some room for a punt, but tate chucked it up. I know herbie said he liked the call, but it's just too much of a risk of the INT getting taken back, I don't think that's what RR called. If you call that kind of punt/pass, you usually send more receivers to that same area and tell one of them to make sure of the tackle.
i agree, but that same instinct also leads to huge plays en route to comeback victories. you take the good with the bad. but i think that's a valid observation.
In the spirit of the thread, i agree that it's crucial to not throw Tate under the bus for the clunker he threw tonight (both as fans, and the coaching staff).
there's a lot to be worked on this week. time to regroup, watch the film, and get ready to come home for DSU.
I'd like to be the first to ask the question of who starts next week? It's probably not the first thought to cross people minds, but if RichRod is trying to send Tate a message, and if Denard needs some confidence . . . why not let Denard start next week? Or is that too radical?
if he's not injured, Tate starts next week, no question. We've got to get him into rhythm and gain back some confidence and momentum. But D-Rob sees quite a bit of action.
For TATE's confidence and just getting back on a positive track (after the INT v. MSU and then the game today), Tate should start against Delaware State for at least 2 or 3 drives. He'll probably dominate them...and then let him come out. Or keep him in there for most of the 1st half and let him remember what it's like to dominate.
Then let Denard come in and get meaningful snaps, both running and throwing. I really want him to get a passing TD this season and next week will probably be the best time for that.
Predictions for next week?
He was mad about poor clock management. When Michigan had the ball on their own 1 yard line, Minor was forced to take burn a TO because Tate didn't get it snapped early enough. On the next drive Tate got a delay of game. When the pace of play is such an important part of your attack, a QB who isn't getting the ball snapped quickly enough brings the offense to a grinding halt.
they could have taken a half yard delay of game, blame Minor for the to.
we praise tate whey to earlier and now two weeks in a row we lose.he needs to make better decision and stop holding on to the ball to long.until we beat osu im not sold on him anymore.thats the game he have to win.the big ten title is gone all we can do is play for a good bowl game.
Is this Esperanto? Or English typed by a concussed chimp on Haldol?
That person (seriously) likely learned English as a second language, and in a nation where it isn't spoken as the official language. Or, alternately, he/she typed their post in Babblefish and had it translated to English. . . like I did in high school Spanish when I had an essay assignment. Hey, at least we have international fans right??
QB coaches and offensive coordinators are for. We need some good cop/bad cop action.
Did you ever see that movie "Crimson Tide" with gene hackman and denzel washington?
Some coaches are 'pat ya on the back' types. Other's are like hackman's character. When the heat's on, they like to turn it up even hotter to see what you're made of. It's just a particular style of motivation.
Personally, I think the second type are usually more successful in football.
i agree, but not just about tate. He'll be fine, i believe in him.
But denard needs just as much support. did you see him after the pick? he looked heartbroken, as anyone would be. this could kill any confidence he had in himself. the fact is, it wasn't his fault
Let's call him all night and let him know that we support him! The more we call him tonight, the better he'll feel!
I'm just gonna have Holly Rowe text him with all our best wishes.
Good night everyone, the sun will rise tomorrow and so will Tate, Denard and the rest of the Wolverines. They have a 14 hour day ahead of them don't you know.
I thought Sunday's were 16 hour days for the team. What makes them so special to get 2 hours off?
This is Amerrrrrica, buddy. And we thrive by throwing people off the boat with no support. SINK OR SWIM! This is a cut-throat society and you'd better be ready to get over yourself LICKITY SPLIT!
The more emotional turmoil this kid endures, the better off he'll be. It'll just make him tougher, edgier, and callous. These are good things in the Land of People Who Eat Raw Meat and Snarl at Each Other.
Though, hopefully any serious emotional collapse will occur after our bowl game so it won't affect my enjoyment of the football season.
Yeah fuck encouragement brah, sink or swim baby sink or swim. I'm gonna go beat my wife now and see if it makes her tougher.
And if it doesn't make her stronger, at least you'll feel better, brah!
Will Helicopter Ben swoop in and bailout Tate and the Wolverines? I think that's what you meant when you were trying to explain America, right?
(/End mild attempt at current events humor)
I don't get it
But I think football with helicopters would kick ass. And explosions!
I can't believe these two guys are on TV... such homerism and invalid arguments
about what Tate said coming off the field said it all....."Coach I don't know what you want me to do"
Any coach, and I mean ANY coach, sits a player for that, especially his QB. I knew then Denard would be QB the rest of whatever game was left.
Tate will be fine, this was not his best game. Early on he was making poor decisions all night.
Honestly, RR made the right call at the end.
Clearly Tate and Denard both suck and are lost causes. Let's use Delaware State to try to build Nick Sheridan some confidence for the rest of the year.
Please remove negging privileges from the people who negged this.
I mean, seriously- do people read that and think he's serious? Sigh. We should have a sarcasm quiz for negging privileges. People shouldn't have to put "/sarcasm" at the end of such a comment for something so blatantly sarcastic because dumb people don't get it.
But it's clear from the way he was negged that it's needed.
There's a thin line for some between understanding obvious sarcasm and their sanity.
Oh Well maybe he should have said platoon Sheridan and Kennedy???
We knew he'd have a "freshman" game at some point and tonight was it. He had two costly turnovers but it's not the end of the world. Tate is the starter and let's not forget about the great things he has done to give us hope this season going forward. Both he and Robinson are only going to get better. Go Blue!
We, and especially the coaching staff, need to support Tate this week. This is a game that will shake his confidence severely, especially not being in the game at the end. I understand RR benching him and yelling at him for his last drive, but 19 year old kids can be emotionally on the edge.
Someone better forward this to RR's email address. I'm sure the OP has a better idea of how to treat RR's players than RR himself does.
Tate has 1 of every 3 girls that reside in Ann Arbor. I only have Gentleman's Jack. I love Tate...but fuck that, I'm the one that needs your support.
Call me crazy, but I feel like Denard needs support more than Tate. Name me a fan that doesn't absolutely love Tate. In Denard's case on the other hand, every time he goes in, people moan, swear, and make comments about his lack of throwing ability. I'm sure the fact that the press all over America is publishing stories concerning how he shouldn't have been in after leading a successful drive is just fantastic for his confidence. People love Denard when he makes a big run, but trash the shit out of him when he doesn't. This is an 18 year old kid who would have redshirted in almost any other situation.
