Tate Mistakes

I love how our defense played today for the most part. They looked very good compared to how they have played the rest of the season. It's just too bad that Tate kept giving the ball away. I have to feel like Tate gave OSU this game. Not sure what he was thinking on the last two. I love the way Tate can play, but he is a freshman and he has made some big mistakes late in the season. He didn't make all of these in the beginning, which is a little odd. He will get better, but this was a bad game for him. We had a legit shot to win, and maybe we still can, but it just didn't happen. Well done by the seniors, and we will miss you. We will be better next season, lets hope for a big W in Columbus.

This is what you get with Tate. If Tate does not do his improvisation deal then he would not make many of the plays that put everybody in awe against the non-Big Ten opponents early on, and the Vincent Smith TD today. But, with that, you get many balls knocked out in the pocket, and foolish decisions with the passing game. I'm glad to hear there is an open competition at QB, because I think Gardner is the real deal. When your coach tells you "Throw where the play is designed," something is not right. When we eliminate the read portion of the zone read something is not right. Maybe it is freshman mistakes, and he grows out of it, but I don't see it (Not to the extent we need). The way he plays is the same way he did in HS.

Let's not forget that the Tate who threw four picks today also tied a career high with 23 completions. It's not like he stunk all game. He actually made quite a few good plays (most notably the TD pass to Smith). Unfortunately, these ended up negated by the turnovers, which killed a lot of promising drives. In short, he was a classic freshman today - he looked great some plays, awful some others. He'll get better.

Tate played his heart out today. It seemed like he was just trying to do too much to get the win, and I'm sure he feels worse than anybody right now. He had the 5 turnovers which really killed Michigan, but he also made some great plays and showed flashes of brilliance. I'm so glad this kid is on our team and I'm really excited to watch him for the next 3 years.
