Tate making a guarantee?
According to the Columbus Dispatch, Tate told the Detroit News that "I am going to get (my teammates) to a bowl game. If it means spending 10 hours in film this week, then I am going to do it. But we are going to get them to a bowl game."

Can't find any mention of it on Detroit News, but assuming this is something Tate actually said was it:
(a) A gutsy QB trying to take responsibility for his team and fire them up
OR
(b) a freshman making the very stupid mistake of giving OSU bulletin board material.
I'm inclined to say it's about 90% (a) and 10% (b)

Non-issue.

No he is not. Unless you and everyone else turns it into one.

Unless it the word "guarantee" is in the sentence than I don't see him guaranteeing anything. This is really nothing. Move along everyone.

If anything, this will make the Buckeyes even more cocky going into Saturday.

99.9% a and .1% B

non-issue. But promising from the stand that Tate isn't disconnecting from his teammates or the team, so I would think the transfer rumors are now moot.

The kid should be doing WHATEVER it takes to get to a bowl game, and right now that means beating the suckeyes. I'm all for it, GO BLUE

I realize Tate said this off the cuff and shouldn't be construed as he literally means only 10 hours but on WTKA this morning Andy Mignery said he was talking to Navarre and both of them marveled at the "I'll spend 10 HOURS!", saying that it should be that much daily (some exaggeration, and of course they mean VOLUNTARY film study).

I know, I laughed when I read Tate's quote as well. I'm assuming he meant to say 10 hours a day...

"The main thing is getting these seniors to a bowl game," said U-M freshman quarterback Tate Forcier, whose team had its 30-plus year bowl streak snapped last season. "Especially for me, because I've known the guys for a while being in my brother's (Jason) class. It's so important. I have to do what I have to get them to a bowl game. If it's spending 10 hours on film this week, I'm going to do that. We're going to get them to a bowl game."
using this for a bulletin board would be pretty contrived. "hey guys, he wants to work really hard. are you going to take that?"

As with everyone else here, I generally only take time to plus someone when they make me laugh. You're final comment at the end made me audibly chuckle in a class, well done

I up-banged you for your signature. Please tell me you heard him say that in person.

Tate's mindset is in the right place. This is exactly where we want him to be.

But seriously, I really like Tate and I'm glad to see him taking a leadership role so early in his career. But I would not call this a guarantee, so much as Tate becoming a future leader.

Wasn't this quote from after the Purdue game?
November 16th, 2009 at 1:00 PM ^
I'm 99% sure that was a quote from last week's Monday press conference. This is not even close to bulletin board material.

ESPN is comparing Tate to "Broadway Joe" with those comments in an insider article. So much for perspective in the media hype machine.

It's just a sign that Tate has a lot of confidence going into The Game.

unfortunately, 10 hours in the film room is not going to help Ezeh or Mouton plug a hole or keep contain or drop into a zone.
OSU will beat us the way the other teams have, through a steady diet of runs outside of the tackles and through huge plays to the TE down the seam.

Tate also mentioned it on his facebook for those that care:
"Ohio State this week! Then I get to go home next Tuesday! Then come back for that bowl game! Im excited!"
November 16th, 2009 at 1:45 PM ^
to see Tate getting more film room hours. That'll help Michigan's scoring average go from 31 pts/gm to 32 pts/gm.
Now if Tate could cajole some of the secondary and LB players to a few more minutes in the film room, yeah that might help. Then again, it probably won't.

If our freshmen QB wants to show some leadership and say such a thing I am all for it.

I think this quote is a fraud. Osu fans are just trying to get an osu team that has already secured its spot in the rose bowl something to play for seeing how “The Game” has been as much of a rivalry lately as usc vs. ucla. I don’t think he would make a guarantee this big; not as a fresh. at least.
