Tate Forcier released from Hamilton Tiger-Cats
Well, I guess that's that. From what what we heard from people who watched the exhibition game and saw how poorly Tate did, especially when compared to LeFevour, this unfortunately doesn't come as a surprise. Where the heck does he go from here?
He didn't work hard enouigh in the classroom and I'm sure he has a work ethic that is not desirable, seems like a pattern with him.
On the other hand, the CFL is playing exhibition games, woo hoo, this means our football is around the corner! Silver lining and all.

Ti-Cats made the right move on this one; Forcier didn't look as complete as LeFevour who could have a very real future ahead of the robotic and ineffective Quinton Porter (I hope).

I do feel bad for the kid in a way, had he kept his head on straight he could have been good. Oh well.

I don't know if he ever had a serious NFL future. I always thought he was highly coached up for a kid his age and really wondered just how much was left in the way of improvement. That Denard started year two of their respective careers should have told us a lot about Tate.
Let's not forget that Denard is pretty much the ideal QB to run RR's offense. In that particular offense, I don't know if Andrew Luck would have deserved to start over Denard. Just by not being made of dilithium, Tate didn't stand a chance once Denard picked up the offense and was coached a little. So I don't think it says much about Tate to be beaten out by Denard.
I think Tate had a good chance of starting, or at least competing, in RichRod's offense. He wasn't Dilithium fast, but he was quick (Notre Dame, anyone?) and when he subbed for Denard the offense hummed, sometimes better than when Denard was in. He lost his starting position in large part due to his work ethic.
Your general point is good, though, in that while he played for Rodriguez there would always be someone with better tools. Alas, he would have been a senior this year for Al Borges; in another timeline we could have a QB controversy.
And in fairness Andrew Luck runs something like a 4.6, any running spread offense would have killed to have him.

Back to Michigan on scholarship.
Hopefully he goes back to school as a serious student and figures out what he wants to do.

Unfortunately, it seems like the remaining avenues likely would not involve football, or at least I assume that. It's sad because there was quite a bit of potential here and if he had handled a few things more constructively, I bet he's still playing somewhere and regularly too, having had the opportunity to develop some. At this point, I would hope he would consider finishing his degree too, if nothing else, and figirue it out from there.
Tough break for him. I hope that this is a turning point for him. Probably the worst thing to happen to this kid was letting his special talent get to his head and thinking it would take him places without having to put in the work. I can't help but hope that getting cut down to size and running out of football options will be the first step in getting started in some "normal" profession where he knows he has to work hard like everyone else. Best of luck to him.

I guess it's just a matter of preference. For example, I don't like people who talk shit about former Michigan players not named Boren and who have words that sound like "orgasm" in their handles. It makes me think they are douchey and immature.

He was my favorite Wolverine once upon a time. I still have a couple pictures up of him in my office. On one of the many "Tate has fallen again" threads, a fellow MGoPoster (FgoWolve) wrote the following on 1/20/11 which I put into a word doc and printed out as a caption of sorts beneath one of my Tate pictures. It so beautifully encapsulated Tate's story that I had to save it:
He's practically a Greek tragedy. An amazing ascent in act I, periods of rising and falling action, until finally as the man said, he hit rock bottom. And his story isn't over yet. While he definitely grew in maturity and experience as the stereotypical tragic character does, he had his own tragic flaws that invoke pity in the audience, as Aristotle pointed out was one of the greatest cathartic emotions for a tragic audience. It's just a shame we don't know exactly what those flaws are, and are forced to watch him go as the result of some unknown force, be it internal (Tate's personal struggles) or external (the rise of Denard, the possibility of no longer being wanted). I will miss Tate. No other player evoked more emotion from me over the past decade. I hope his story transitions into a comedy and a happy ending.
Tate Forcier wasn't a Greek tragedy. He is a college drop-out.
We know he was home-schooled because he couldn't handle academics. We know he was handed the starting job in the spring of 2009 and expected it as of right.
We know when Denard simply outworked him and won the starting job, Tate's response after the UConn game was to try and quit.
We know that he flunked out of school (despite his hilarious Gator-Bowl week bravado about showing up and passing) and couldn't get in anywhere else.
A life of limo driving awaits him, and it's his own fault. He could have worked hard like so many others have (Denard and Devin, to name two right off the top of the head), but when challenged to lead, this young man cannot get it done.
This guy should be of no example to anyone except for how not to conduct yourself when others are depending on you to be a leader.

and killed it at UM. honors grad. home schooling indicates nothing about someone's ability to handle acedemics. everything else i agree with even though i would say you are flaming a bit

I'll second Gitback. I support homeschooling and my oldest daughter just finished a homeschool kindergarten program that has her reading a grade above her level, so I know what I'm talking about here; the post you are complaining about in no way demeans homeschooling. He is discussing the character of Tate, and alleging (I don't know how accurately) that Tate was homeschooled specifically to ease his academic burden. I think it is likely that Tate was capable of handling academics, but was allowed to ignore them for athletic pursuits.

since i think his dad owns a business, and since Tate has always been a pretty fun guy to hang out with (as anyone who is facebook friends with him knows as we can see all the pictures of him with his beautiful women) he will end up in sales and will be fine. he is not dennis rodman who will die alone in a car somewhere broke. this brings me no pleaseure to say because dennis rodman has a bigger heart than anyone else i know but he is a greek tragedy. tate is not.

That's where a lot of athletes end up, and there's absolutely nothing bad about it. Sales people can make a lot of money. And good sales people are worth their weight in gold.
Cast from your mind the image of the car salesman. There's a lot more to sales than that.
I work with a lot of salespeople in the tech field. If you have the right personality for it, it's a great life. Technical people are brought in to do the actual work. You just set up client meetings and coordinate the people doing the work. And take home big commisions.
You and I share a common storyline with regards to work.
There's one other thing salespeople do -- good salespeople do -- they keep the sale moving along, they find ways to get around objections, and they close the deal by asking for the signature on the purchase order.
As a technical person myself, I've wasted a lot of time due to poor salespeople who don't know how to qualify opportunities, and for valid opportunities they don't know how to close the deal. Wheels just spin and spin forever.
So you're absolutely correct -- if they have the right personality for it, it's a great fit. It's not just being the "life of a party" type person. But being a person who naturally establishes rapport and goodwill is a big part of it.
As a manager of technical sales people I call the sellers you describe as "donut bringers". If they can't explain what the product does and how it addresses customer needs I don't want them. If they can't whiteboard the solution they generally have no credibility with the client and generally don't add much value.
Now we sell to software developers who can smell the stink of a "donut bringer" from a mile away.
Well... a good sales person needs to be very focused, very organized and extremely driven. Ive made a good living at it for nearly 15 years, but it is not as easy as some think.
Regardless what field that Tate chooses to work in...he will need to improve on his focus and organizational skills in order to succeed.
If Dennis Rodman actually dies in a car I'm going to be retroactively creeped out by that post.
If someone would have told me right after the ND game his freshman year that his career would be over after one more season, I would have assumed they were crazy if it didn't involve a terrible injury.
