Tailgating with an RV for the ND Game

Submitted by Beavis on

I will be attending the ND game this year with a gang of friends and we're driving in with an RV.  We have never done this before, as circumstances (lack of hotel rooms) have pushed this into "great idea" territory.

I was hoping some kind posters on this board could provide some suggestions as to what to do, and what not to do.

After some research, it seems the way to go is get a spot at the Pioneer lot and setup shop there.  My main concerns are - I'd rather be at the golf course, but I've heard that RVs can't park there on Friday night (and possibly on Saturday).  My next major concern is hooking up the thing to a water line (a man's gotta bathe).  Is there anywhere to do this?  I would rather not spend Friday night at the Ypsi campground just because it is the only place with a water hookup.

Any insight is GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks.

I'm so excited. My wife being from Maryland, doesn't quite understand what it's like, so she's going to be blown away. Fall Saturday's in Ann Arbor, is there any where else on earth you'd rather be?

I always tailgate at the course so I am not 100 percent sure, but I do not think you can park an RV overnight at Pioneer, but I may be wrong.

Pioneer opens on Friday night for RVs that have season passes - or ordered in advance. Just google pioneer parking lot or something like that. The lot is not run by Pioneer or the A2 Public Schools, it's a private company. Also they do not have power or water or sewer hook-ups for our RV - this is a school parking lot not a camping ground so you'll be on generator power and your RV's storage tanks for clean water.

Has anyone actually camped anywhere near Ann Arbor on a game weekend? We just bought a pop up and if I could find a decent campground close enough to the stadium that could make for a great weekend.

You may not have the luck my family has, but we are friends with someone who has connections with DB, so he was able to hook us up with Victors Lot tickets to the MSU game last year. We were able to park my Uncles RV there. I would try getting in there it is a blast, and it is so close to the stadium if your blown out of your mind you won't have to walk far. Thats just my two cents.

I think the Pioneer lot is your only choice unless your group comes up with a car that you can tailgate out of and keep the RV at a campsite outside of Ann Arbor.

The Pioneer lot is the way to go if you want to tailgate with an RV.  None of the golf courses allow RV's at all and the Blue lot/Crisler Lot is not possible unless you have amazing connections.  Last year the Pioneer Lot for an RV was $125 on gameday I believe but I would try to show up on Friday because I would suspect the RV part of the lot will fill up pretty quickly for the ND game.

Good luck with it all.

Does your RV come with a spare cold water tank?  Fill before you leave and it should be enough water to get you through.

Some great suggestions in here guys - thank you very much.  Pioneer it shall be.  If anyone wants to meet up - we will be the big freaking RV with a leprachaun hanging from a noose.

I always tailgate at pioneer both in the regular lot and RV lot.  It's just as fun and crazy as the golf course!  We didn't have a season pass for the RV lot, so for the 2009 Ohio game we arrived when the lot opened at 6am to make sure we got a spot and even at that point they were packing em in!

Pioneer lot is usually the lot that allows for rv's if i recall correctly. Next tailgaitng event i go to i'm definetly going to be rocking my rv flagpole with my team, or even just American flag if i have to! definetly wouldn't mind a keggorator on board either!
