I've done Pioneer and Golf Course and always enjoyed that a little more.
In regards to waiting who cares? After the whooping we give UConn why not stay for soem after game festivities.

Get there around 9-9:30 to get a sweet spot. You can stay there for an hour after the game ends (which I did last year). I don't think they are too strict on that hour, but you can re-fire up the grill and eat afterwards.
The issue is traffic. It's an absolute monster to leave that area. It's unavoidable at the golf course, however.

Golf course is where I'll be but I also recommend tailgating in the parking lot by Yost and the track off of State St. It's a good spot, not much room though if you don't get a spot that backs up to the lawn. That's a good alternative to the golf course. It's a fun walk, too.

Drink heavily.
Take a taxi home.
