Tailgate Toast (a speech...not a creative recipe for bread)

Submitted by BigTex on

I must confess I have very mixed feelings about sharing my recent toast with the MGoBlog Community as there are many members who are far more creative and clever than I.  However, at the urging of family and friends I have decided to share the toast/speech I gave at a preseason tailgate party hosted at my house recently. If nothing else, perhaps it will inspire others to improve on my humble effort to be entertaining for my friends and family.  Enjoy!

Today we join to drink and feast,
and grill up some poor helpless beast.

So vegetarians, don’t fret what we eat;
if God didn’t want us eating animals…they wouldn’t be made of meat.

I lift my glass of icy brew,
and remember things that Bo would do.

The faithful liken Bo to God,
but he’s not here…we have Rich Rod.

The last two seasons have been quite tough;
Our boys played hard, but it wasn’t enough.

Losing’s not something we Wolverines know;
but let me remind you: We beat Tebow!

Barwis turned them into speedy, ninja things;
and let’s not forget: our helmet has wings!

Wielding such phrases as “irregardless” and “coach speak”,
Coach Rod will have us abusing UConn this time next week.

We must support, cheer and urge on our boys;
They've fixed the stadium now...they’ll hear our noise.

Regardless of the starter, be it Denard or Tate,
our offense will rock…we will be great.

Our defense has suffered many setbacks and dings,
but if nothing else…uh…our helmet has wings!

We’re all in…let’s hold the rope!
some of us still feel there’s hope.

Good things await us; we will rise again;
Stranger things have happened: The Big Ten has 12, the Big 12 only 10.

Fair weather fans need not apply,
‘cause when we’re winning, we know you’ll try.

So as I stand here with my glass,
I look forward to beating some Huskies….with the pass.

O beware all you rivals in your tacky greens and reds,
‘Cause ¾ of our team is now sporting dreads.

So screw the Buckeyes and Sparty too;
but most importantly…Go Blue!
