Tailgate suggestions for Nebraska

Submitted by chewieblue on

I'm tranplanted to Ohio and make only one or two games a year.  Due to distance, and yes partly due to rapidly advancing age, I am rarely in town long enough before or after kickoff to spend any time tailgating.

Basically any connections I had to decent tailgating parties have all but evaporated (mostly family members who have all graduated or are now getting too old to tailgate).  This week I am bringing some friends up early in the morning and was hoping for some ideas on tailgating spots welcoming to outsiders.

Any suggestions?

I'm looking to grab a few "pops" before the game with my brother in law, who is in town visiting.  What bars are open before the game on Saturdays?  Any place open at 9am or 10am?

tailgates on the U of M golf course.... Main Street Entrance.  Be aware, there are two entrances off of Main.  The northern most entrance is the AAGO course, not U of M.  AAGO is closer to the stadium, but you will be subjected to the parking nazis.

Bring a grill and a grill, chairs and, if you are feeling ambitious, a canopy.  There are plenty of great parking spots in this area.  The parking attendants don't try to put everyone on top of eachother.  It's generally a pretty laid back location.

Also, only $30 to park.

Pioneer is always good.  You can park for $40 and drink/tailgate out of your trunk.  If you want to be a bit more mobile and take everything in, here goes:

Park somewhere State St. area.  There are structures off of S. University and forest or in that area.  Bring a pint of your booze of choice.

9:00 am Brown Jug.  Grab a beer and some breakfast or whatever you desire.

10:00 am hit your pint while you move to Ashley's for another quick beer.

10:30 walk down State St. and take in the atmosphere.  Hit the pint a bit more.  Shop, maybe do a beer bong at a Frat House

11:00 Swing into Packard Pub for a beer or shot (Use the pisser).

11:20 Continue walking to the game, finish off your pint, tip the drummer guy on Hoover.

11:40 enter game and find the pisser.

12:00 stand up and scream!

Go BLue!

Anyone is welcome at the jäger yearbook. Look for the jäger flag on the east side(State St) entrance of the golf course. We have everything most other tailgates have, other than our fetish for jäger. Other mgobloggers Gobluemagnus and Ebbtide can vouch.

is the best atmosphere by far.  You get to toss back a few while throwing a football on a beautiful course with the Big House standing proudly next to you.  What could be better?

Does No. 9 Hamburgers still exist down on Hoover St before the game?  Normally I'm tailgating elsewhere, but I'm flying solo tomorrow and would love to grab one of those tasty burgers beforehand.
