Peppers at 10, which seems low.
Win or lose this game, Syracuse won't have won this game when all is said and done. Oh wait... I forgot, the NCAA doesn't believe in sanctions...
Michigan fans talking about vacated victories is baffling.
Why is that exactly? As a fanbase that has paid the ultimate penalty for its program breaking the rules, I think we have every right to discuss other schools possibly paying the same price for their wrongdoings. We served our time buddy.
As someone with knowledge of what's going on, there is about as much of a chance of any victory ever being vacated as there was of Michigan having victories vacated because of practice gate, and I'm not sure there's even that high of a chance.
Michigan players made a huge mistake 15-20 years ago when they took money from a booster they had been warned to stay away from, and the program paid the price for it. Right now, Syracuse is currently under investigation for drug allegations and the whole Fab Melo fiasco, not to mention the sexual molestation accusations that unfortunately went on with Bernie Fine. I dare say Syracuse's reputation is in a much much worse position than U of M was during the Fab Five scandal.
Regardless, who cares. As of tomorrow, U of M is playing Syracuse and any allegations are unproven and irrelevant on that court. May the best man win (and may Syracuse not look too bad losing).
like those Syracuse is facing have become old hat. Meanwhile, it was not just Michigan that went down in the Ed Martin, but a cultural revolution with it.
But I still agree to disagree to an extent.
While it's only a third of Syracuse's issues right now and the one that is probably the least of the NCAA's concerns at the moment (if it's even an open issue at all still), any time there are allegations of sexual molestation of children, that is far and away a bigger issue and bigger hit to the reputation of any organization than anything else you can imagine (IMHO).
I, as well as many others, are still fans and supporters of Steve Fisher, the fab five, Louis Bullock, Mo Taylor and the dear departed Tractor Traylor. Name me one person who's still a supporter of Bernie Fine.
In April, one of Fine's accusers admitted that he fabricated the story. In November, prosecutors announced that he would not be charged. If there was anything there, he would have been prosecuted because of the national publicity the case received.
The Melo mess and drug allegations are legitimate concerns, and it only takes one drug dealer with a big mouth to start the wheels in motion to bring a program down, but the Bernie Fine case is finished, and really didn't belong in a discussion of the current Syracuse team.
I don't think you mean baffling. Michigan has vacated victories. No one is denying that and no one is clamoring for those victories to be written back in the books.
Perhaps you meant ironic which, in reality, doesn't exactly fit either because Michigan, unlike Syracuse, is not facing impending sanctions.
Michigan has served it's time. More than it's time, frankly. We yes, we have every right to comment on the Cuse sanctions. More than any other program. We run the cleanest AD in the nation thanks to some very hard lessons learned.
Syracuse has not served its time, but they will. The days of syracuse having a top 10-20 hoops program will soon be over. Boeheim will retire, sanctions will come down and it'll be 10-15 years before you have a winning cummulative record in the ACC.
Maybe when your lax team can beat UAlbany, they will become relevant again too. Otherwise, the rest of that craptastic Athletic Dept will remain a complete farce.
Good luck on Sat
Why do you have to bring my Great Danes into this? Say what you want about Albany basketball but out Lax team has been good for awhile now.
but aren't you a Michigan fan? I base this on your join date, grad school, amount of posts, and the Dreisbach in your name. Or are you the classic "I'll be a Michigan football fan, but my basketball will be my other school"
Kemba Walker won a national title /justsayin'
So there's THAT!!
The same UConn team that knocked them out of the Big East tournament and won the title. Smart comment by Triche.
The Guido population is about to get smacked.
Triche means "cheat" in French. We've got to watch out for that guy.
I've heard worse bulletin board material from pre-schoolers.
Need to stop hanging out with shit-talking 4 year olds.
I would love to, but they're holding me hostage until they get some more Animal Crackers.
Withey ran his mouth a little bit too. That ended well. Funny thing is I can say with 99% certainty that Triche is going to get pick pocketed just like Appling did. He's not the best ball handler. MCW is a lot taller than Burke and it definitely is a mismatch in the halfcourt, but remember that when MCW dribbles the ball has a little more distance to travel to come back to his hand. I've seen Michigan generate some turnovers that probably originate from the film room where they've found weaknesses and tendencies. I've noticed many with Syracuse and for that reason I don't think this game is close. GO BLUE
I know there is no more incentive needed than the final four, but man this would light a fire under my ass.
I always liked Triche and some of their players, but now, fuck them.
MCW, Fair, and Triche always had my eye and I recognized their talent. After these statements they can go fly a kite in a lightning storm.
Triche is a good, respectful kid. Went to a local high school. No reason to put him down.
He thinks that they match up well against Michigan, and he's just saying what he thinks. Some reporter is using the quotes to make a catchy story.
The truth is that SU does create mismatches in size against most teams. Michigan is loaded with talent, but SU has a lot of talent too. I'm really not sure how it all plays out, since it really depends on which shooters get hot and how well Michgan's POY can break down the zone, but it is clearly well within the realm of possibility that SU's defense will make life very difficult for Michigan.
The film thing has been repeated by all of their players and an assistant coach, which is baffling.
Perhaps because their defense is pretty much the same across all teams, they can get away with less film viewing. Other finer defensive strategies can probably come from scouting reports.
Whatever..tomorrow we will see who is the better team. Go Blue or Die.
If I'm Beilein, all I write on the board before the game is, "BRANDON TRICHE"
WIN = SUBS
Don't get crazy
This is one of many reasons u r not the coach
Geez, will they ever learn? We heard the same things out of Kansas and Florida. I like McGary's additiude.
Yeah Walker's last game against Syracuse was actually a 33 pt 12 reb 6 stl 5 ast(4 TO) perormance so Triche should probably fact check before making statements like that. It seems players do take after their coach since Boeheim kinda seems like a douche and these statements seem kinda douchey.
Dumb comments by Triche, to be sure. But I live in the Syracuse area and have had a couple of occasions to interact with Boeheim. He's always seemed like a class act to me. He's very engaged in and generous with the community here, often in ways that don't grab headlines. In other words, Boeheim seems to do good here because he wants to, not because he has to.
Don't get me wrong--I'm hoping JB & Co. beat the crap out of him tomorrow.
This team seems to feed off of feeling slighted. I hope 'Cuse says much worse things in the next 24 hours.
Michael Carter-Williams said that Michigan is shaped like a mitten, but he prefers to wear gloves.
Triche is not a smack-talker, so I'd like to see what he said in context instead of Meinke's tweets.
The team has been focusing on its system and will be watching film tonight or tomorrow morning.
So, basically, what he's saying is that he's going to shut Trey Burke out and that we have a team that couldn't beat a Candian Middle School team?
They also have a weird belief that Beilein is going to put Trey on Carter Williams instead of Hardaway because they're totally the PGs! And the 1s have to guard each other, that's a rule right?
blown when it's otherwise.
I don't even think it matters. MCW isn't all that great, and while he does have a height advantage, trey has a quickness advantage and will pick his pocket more than once. Even if trey is on MCW, as long as our help is good, then we're fine.
The idea was to have MCW post up Burke. I asked my friend who goes to Syracuse law (Michigan undergrad and he is rooting for goodness and light) if Triche can post because my thoughts were on a similar line. Seems to be a no there.
seem to have massively overestimated their offensive ability...They held Marquette to a total of 12 field goals and Syracuse was still only up by 6 at halftime, and really never ran away with the game until the end. Also, is Triche really dumb enough to think we would put Stauskas on Fair? Come one dude, use your brain. But anyways, our guys don't need any added motivation but the whole "chip on the shoulder" mentality always seems to work well so i'll take this. Go Blue
Actually Carter-Williams said that whether Michigan puts Stauskas on Fair or Triche, they plan to attack him. Specifically, he said, "I'm not trying to knock Nik or anything, he's a great player and a great shooter, but if we attack him, he's going to have to work."
Doesn't seem that inflammatory or unreasonable at all. If you had to pick spots on Michigan's D to attack, where would you go? Even just reading this board over the course of the season, I've heard enough complaints about particular players' defensive skills to know where those spots are. Syracuse's offense is not great, but defense is not Michigan's strong suit.
I hope Stauskas gets hot just like he did vs. Florida, but Syracuse seems inclined to stop that from happening. We've all seen games where Stauskas just doesn't have it.
I feel slighted.
in Canada, that's a pretty mad statement I think
Someone needs to photoshop Brian in over Liam Neeson. I don't have the skillz.
Triche should win a Wooden award before he talks.
He should be greatful that syracuse can compete with Michigan in basketball. Unlike every other sport.
I guess we'll just see about that tomorrow. This team seems to thrive in those situations where they feel disrespected.
I read those quotes looking for something to tweet about all outraged, but there's nothing really there. He gives props to Stauskus; all he was saying is that they're going to put a taller guy on him and try to tire him out.
There has been sadly little smack talk out there.
You mean the same Brandon Triche who averages 10 points per game for his career, and plays for a team who is too pussy/stupid to play man to man defense. Hope Stauskas trolls him several times Monday. Yet another reason to hate anything affiliated with Jim Boeheim.
Chocolate Factory, Willy.
Underestimating your opponent is a BigEast trait..
stems from football season. After a season of playing all Big East football opponents, they get used to under estimating people.
What would you expect from kids that go to a glorified JC?
Within Meinke's piece on this very thing - HERE - is something that made me laugh out loud quite honestly, and it was Jon Horford's reply to Brandon Triche:
"Brandon Triche is a nice young man. Nice young man. And I would love to have tea with him to discuss matchup issues."
Your move, Mr. Triche.
Can we get a mic on Horford for like 48 hours? I'm pretty sure that would be hilarious.
I literally LOL'd. Horford is awesome.
brandon triche has disturbed the puppy
Is this what passes for trash talk these days? Not impressed.
Besides it's doubtful Michigan needs any extra motivation at this stage of the game.
Brandon Triche looks like Powder.
showed class and didn't take the bait on this one. I know amongst themselves they're brewing and can't wait to get on the court. If we are hitting our shots, look out!
You are taller than the best player in college basketball.
So... What''s your excuse?
Looks like Michael Beesley, but possesses far less brain cells. Is that even possible?
WE'RE GONNA FIGHT!!!!!!! CHEST BUMP
sorry. Got excited. Sat. night is too many hours away.
Almost as arrogant as DFAing Louisville...
I think playing a B1G schedule gives Michigan the edge. I guess we'll find out tomorrow.
