Swim Lanes - The Final Episode 2016

Submitted by alum96 on

Last go around before we begin the 2017 swim lanes Wednesday evening.

Michigan got counter struck for Fuller, Hamilton was snake oiled away in the cover of darkness Indy Colts style.  I am assuming Onwenu is staying in the class and is just trying to build some buzz.

Based on crystall ballz incl our own Acian ballz it seems Murphy to USC and Simmons to Clemson.  Boss is up in air but as of this moment it seems like a toss up and other than a tentative ballz by Acian and a UM basketball writer none of the usuals want to put their ballz out for him to UM so I am not counting him in.  So do the 2 Cal guys split up after talking of being together for months on end?

This looks like the projected close:

25 Rashan Gary UM / Clemson
26 Victor Viramontes Silently
27 Lavert Hill UM / MSU
28 Quinn Nordin UM
29 Alaric Jackson Snake Oiled late
30 Devin Asiasi Left Coast v UM

This would eliminate any need for grayshirts as spot 31 would remain open and instead of going to another recruit would give everyone a scholarship.  Unless of course we flip Greg Little.

If any of the above in chart are misses maybe UM tries to find a lower rated guy from the state of Michigan to flip at last moment.  I don't see Harbaugh as a "bank a scholarship" type of guy.

This would still be a great close even as it puts immense emphasis on DT and OT in the 2017 class.  Get the #1 player in country, land 2 other top 125 players in Hill/Asiasi, get a developmental but good ceiling OT a year ahead of hopefully 2 very high level 2017 OTs, get a "Harbaugh player" in Vic, and get your local high ranked kicker.   Done and done.

Why not bank? You can only have so many scholarship players total, which limits how many you can offer each year. It's not like Harbaugh will be able to take 30 each year.

taking all the PWOs to increase the number of players with a chance to play. 1 or 2 of those guys may pan out. They are practice squad guys who aren't going to turn into pre-madonnas.  I'm not sure why everyone thinks all the players are there to play.  Even if you didn't play college football, have you seen Rudy?

Yes they are. The odds that all these PWOs turn into special teamers/travel squad reserves is lower than the tendered athletes, but Harbs expects them all to compete. He's not just offering a spot on his team to a bag feathers with good grades.

I think this is the reason they might "bank" a scholarship. Because it means you have an extra guy who could contribute next year in the form of a 5th year guy or a transfer instead of a lower ranked guy in the class. I think the backlog of guys waiting to get into the class means that it's less likely, but banking a scholarship is not a smaller roster I this case, just a slightly different use of the scholarship for a year.

Final Episode?

You will need to do one of these every hour, on the hour, until 9:00 AM tomorrow the way rumors fly around this place.

I could have lived with him apologizing for overhyping his announcement at a time when most fans are on edge because of Signing Day, but doubling down by trying to lecture people on what "break the internet" means was when he lost all credibility for me. The dude was just trolling for hits & publicity and has shown zero remorse for playing with fans' emotions and wasting their time.

I think the original tweet could have been interpreted many ways but what sunk him to me was when asked specifically about it he wrote "it is a great break for Michigan".

A hype video is not a great break for Michigan.  It was a silly remark.

Awww, I always love optimistis who think MGoBlog will actually be up and running for more than 90 seconds at a time at any point between 10 AM and 3 PM tomorrow.

Unless I see 20 semis full of hamsters headed to Brian's house in the next 24 hours I will look forward to our shared 502s, 503s, and 504s.

He is certainly no sure thing but unlike a few other guys we have a lot of late momentum in the crystal ballz department.   I think from the official visit forward the talk has been distance is much more of an issue for Boss than Asiasi.  But its something to overcome for both - I believe it was the "hiccup" Webb hinted at a few days ago.
