Swim Lanes - 1/9

Submitted by alum96 on

With 3 official open spots but more than that likely (potentially up to 7) the swim lanes are narrowing. Below is an updated table - I, like 99% of America, presume Nauta to GA.  Corley will either be MSU or OSU within an hour.

Most likely at this point are:

  1. Long (good # of cystal balls headed our way this week)
  2. Hill (long time favorite, Durkin departure hurt but Brown seems to have helped)
  3. Gary (some Ole Miss ballz this week but UM still overwhelming favorite)
  4. A TE (Allen or Mathis or maybe even a flip; some ballz falling to Allen this week)

After that

  • I'd love to get this Hudson kid - he just makes plays / and can play both sides of the ball (S or RB) but PSU seems be getting the recent love.  That said Hudson has not yet visited UM - a huge visit to sway him.  UCLA & Pitt seem to be on outside looking in
  • Fuller - a mystery to all, UM will be one of 4 involved
  • Dontavious Jackson is getting a bevy of FSU ballz this week so that one seems to be fading away.   This leaves Jonathan Jones who is a ND v UM battle; if UM loses on Jones than you are on plan C linebackers.  Dublanko I believe visits in Jan but has no offer yet.
  • Levi O is a Wash v UM battle; seems like Levi is high on UM board.  Murphy also in play there.

  Other potential lanes
1 Rashad Weaver Temple visit
2 Kiante Enis Indiana visit communication stall
3 Sir Patrick Scott communication stall vague grade rumors
4 Dytarious Johnson vague grade rumors
5 grayshirt(s)

I wouldn't be sad to end class with

  • Gary
  • Long
  • Hill
  • Hudson
  • Levi O
  • Allen
  • Jones

Offset by 4 decommits and or 1 grayshirt thrown in.

But why would we still be pursuing all these players if we didn't have spots for them? I think there are probably a few guys who were told, "you can commit, but you are not at the top of our board. Understand you may lose your spot here if someone above you commits."

Your best guess makes a lot of sense at this point Mr. Yost.   Would be a terrific finish to class.  Any finish with Gary and Long would be amazing and fantastic, and we have a great class as it stands now.  Did you forget about Jonathan Jones or are you thinking he is headed elsewhere? Thought he was still a possibility.

If Rashad Weaver, Kiante Enis, Sir Patrick Scott and Dytarious Johnson haven’t de-committed yet, and they were to sign and fax their letters of intent to Michigan, would Michigan just refuse to accept them? Or have they been advised already to not submit letters of intent and to look elsewhere?

What would happen with them if Michigan doesn't receive committments from seven new players by National Signing Day?  Would Michigan still take any of them, despite no longer having any interest in them? Or would they just leave open their scholarship offers for some walk-on players?

They return forms that were sent to them by the school and have been signed and dated by the AD or someone else with the authority to officially offer the scholarship. The schools have no reason to fax them out until just before signing day.

Recruiting is always a juggling act. Michigan will know where they stand with most recruits before signing day and they will have some plan B type recruits that could get a late offer.

Thanks for the updated swim lanes Alum 96,  Your analysis is always cogent, clarifying, and  interesting.  FWIW, your "would not be sad" class finish is pretty  spot on to what are my highest hopes for this class finish are, but then you probably know a lot of us in addition to yourself  might feel that way.

just got offered by M, but looks like he will stick with Kentucky.

Why don't the guys with the most awesome names want to play for us?
