Swenson decommit: more info ...

OK, don't shoot the messenger ... just 1-side of the story and just reporting ... doesn't look great tho

“Coach Drevno just said they’re trying to put the best recruiting class they can together,” Molinari said. “They’ve gained a ton of interest from a lot of recruits they never thought they’d have interest from. It wasn’t just a coach Drevno thing. They sat down and thought there wasn’t going to be one for Erik at this point — not a full scholarship, a preferred walk-on.”

...but for what it's worth I never saw much Northwestern homerism in the Tribune. Maybe it's changed in the five years since I left town but the only trace of CFB homerism I remember in the paper is for Notre Dame. Basically they covered ND and the B1G, and their coverage of the conference was pretty even-handed, probably because every one of the schools has a big alumni base in town (well, this was before MD and Rutgers).

What exactly do you think is bullshit? Do you honestly believe that Harbaugh and staff didn't pull this kids scholarship or do you just not believe what they told him? Do you think they told him, you're not good enough, we don't want you, and we waited this long to tell just to try and screw you over? They had to give him some sort of explanation for pulling his offer this late in the season. Also, 1. Michigan is Michigan to you and me, but not to most of these kids. 2. Harbaugh. This is the best class he's ever recruited and he didn't come to Michigan because we are king of the hill and he's probably surprised with the talent level that is showing interest. 3. We came off a good season. Yes it was good but we still lost to msu and got throttled by osu. 4. Expects excellence from his recruits. Yeah, but that sort of supports the opposing point that you were trying to make. Obvious is obvious and obviously the kid wasn't good enough in our staff's eyes to get a scholarship to Michigan. Like it or not our staff screwed the kid over and your denial of it is a joke. Just accept this is big time football and this sort of thing happens, especially with a coach who has a reputation for doing it.

I was actually trying to save you time from posting. You blindly support any action the staff takes. We get it, you don't have to rush to the computer to reaffirm that position. And if there is a topic we wanted your opinion on, we could just ask Harbaugh and save time.

My only beef with this comment and with almost every comment on this thread is that there are so many people here rushing to make a snap judgement either condemning or approving of something based on a bunch of vague assumptions and maybe two or three sentences worth of comments from one half of the situation.

I'm already so tired of this story.

(And no, Brutus, I am not trying to pick on you for this. Just saw your name and decided to respond to you.)

That's fair and I agree, it does look bad. But at this point, I'm just over this story. Swenson has offers to several other good schools and going public about whatever this supposedly is will not have any effect on his playing prospects, as far as I can tell.

And you know, maybe he truly was told about this a while back, maybe he truly was blindsided, maybe he thought that since he gave his verbal to Hoke and was offered previously, his spot was saved no matter what else, maybe he had a shitty year and the coaches told him, "nah, no thank you.". The point is that we will never know and the only word on the matter we will ever have is the word of a freshly wounded high school kid who got spurned by the school he wanted to go to for reasons which we will probably never know but he, and therefore we, can only guess at.

So continuing to poke at this particular story is just pointless to me until this starts happening on the regular to other recruits. Then we can revisit this and start to piece together a narrative.

(And to anybody wanting to bring up Falcon, Colter, or Pipkins, I am not having that argument when there were and are clear medical concerns about them.)

Agree, xxxx, and it astounds me the judgments made when all the facts are not in. Reading comments from a yahoo piece made me want to throw up. But the NCAA.... will not allow Michigan to respond.  I may not like their response but I should at least wait till I hear more. If we're in the wrong it wasn't the first time nor will it be the last time.  Hopefully we'll learn from it but don't bet on it. I still make some mistakes over and over.  And I believe this kid will be just fine.  Go Blue!

All the facts will NEVER be in and this is not the standard we have used to criticize other schools.

Jeez... Michigan fandom turns some of you into flaming hypocrites.

You can't... most people know this, but they're just slow playing it and hoping some miracle happens between now and signing day that makes the impending oversigning excusable. Brian and most of the fan base will just shrug and say "playing time transfers" as if that's not exactly the same thing Alabama does(and what this fanbase criticized Alabama for doing every single year.)

It wouldn't bug me as much as it does if these people would just admit that the faux outrage in the past didn't really have anything to do with the kids and everything to do with Michigan not doing it too. Kinda like what Brian asks SEC and ACC fans to do regarding satellite camps.

Who honestly cares? If a player decpmmits it's not a big deal but if a coach decpmmits from a player it's a HUGE deal? Give me a break.....move on. Who are we going to sign at OT?

Objectively, I agree with your sentiment. However, the coaches did tell him about five weeks ago to take all of his visits. That was a major hint that Swenson didn't pick up on for one reason or another. Now, I think the coaches owed it to the kid to be crystal clear, and I am not at all a fan of how this was handled. I just want to be accurate in how we speak about this (and everything else, intellectual dishonesty drives me insane).
