They only team that worries me right now is M. Idc who wins these games
Sweet 16 (Day 2) OPEN Thread
But it's been like that all season.
I said at halftime when everyone was high fiving that we have cold stretches and our defense is shotty. We had to keep up the effort and intensity and we really we inconsistent. But we're advancing at the better team won.
I'd MUCH rather play UK than L'ville even though I want a rematch. I just think UK will be coming off such a high if they win that turning around to play us in 2 days will be impossible.
Have you SEEN us try to break a press this season?
Trey Burke is long gone my friend.
That is wildly unfair.
Big fan. I've been a Wahoo sincer, err Selection Sunday.
That the entire UConn team gathers behind their coach when he's interviewing postgame. Ollie says it's because "they have my back."
But if we beat them in the Championship game (and Wisky in the Final Four)...I'm not mad.
Bring on Louisville. I want revenge.
being such a young team they're probably a bit more volatile, plus they're an SEC team. A fairly veteran Louisville team probably beats us
I don't want to see the Cards, I'll be honest. We're HORRIBLE vs. pressure.
Shut up. If you don't call a charge, LeVert gets the steal and the ball stayed IN BOUNDS. LeVert had it easily.
Either way. Michigan ball.
Some guys like Davis are arguing that it was a block. Gottleib thinks it was a charge, pointing out that in college you can move laterally. You're right in that if it was a no call, LeVert gets the ball, and by the time he's foulded, there's 3 seconds left.
I dont like the UK matchup myself; they remind me of the Fab 5 - make lots of errors but athleticism and skill is high. Also a long team. I think we're better than Louisville.
If we play UK, I'll like the fact that they just beat their rival in what felt like the Super Bowl.
They're also young and I don't think they're THAT good. I just think they've been playing well. GRIII can't guard Randle, but Randle can't guard him either.
If we play UL, I'll like the fact that they just beat their rival in what felt lke the Super Bowl.
I'll like that our guys will be PUMPED for a rematch and we'll be fired up the same way MSU was fired up to play use in the B1G final.
However, their press worries me. We're AWFUL versus pressure. Walton and Albrecht may have combined for double digit TOs tonight.
Louisville makes the Harrison twins look like what they've been for most of the season.
Let Russ Smith F it up and we'll win Sunday.
I see them winning comfortably.
both UK and Louisville. I don't care for either team or either coach, so the tiebreaker is I want revenge so I gotta go with the cards. Either way I hope the winner uses up all their energy tonight and comes out flat against us. And go Cavs
that makes a hideous whistling sound the enitre game?
MSU injury reference... drink.
Ahh. What's a State game without making excuses for their injuries.
Turned on the MSU game for the first time and they were talking about Sparty injuries. And that's the last time I watch that game for a while.
MSU committed about 6 fouls and then they call UVA for an over the back.
I guess MSU is allowed to tackle people lol
Was that Rudy T that I just saw a seat down from Mooch at the MSU game?
These two games are foul filled without the whistle. If the refs don't call these hand checks and reach ins then it won't matter.
Zebras allowing MSU to get away with murder
Can't stand it.
Is like watching two grown men just stand in front of each other taking turns punching each other in the face until the first person falls.
Virginia scores. Unfortunately, it looks like Virginia is having a harder time scoring than State.
Man do I hate Denzel Valentine. Guy is going to be insufferable the next couple of years. Just the biggest trash talker for a moderately-talented guard who can't shoot consistently to save his life.
Virginia is very limited offensively.
Virginia = garbage. These late games suck. Louisville and MSU so much better than their opponents.
I pray Kentucky somehow pulls it off
This MSU-UVa game is one big rock fight. Virginia can't do ANYTHING right offensively
Virginia worst 1 seed ever not including Gonzaga last year?
Wichita was a one seed either.
In general I think this was one of the worst seeded tournaments in a long time.
Kentucky had a virtual home game against them and had to play just about a perfect game to beat them by 2. If VanVleet has even a normal game Wichita runs away with that. You watch one of the best college basketball games of the season and decide Wichita wasn't a 1? So are we not a real 2 since Tennessee almost beat us?
They're fine. MSU is a really good team when everything is clicking. But Virginia was a bit of a weak #1 in a year where there was basically Florida and Arizona and then some questions.
Wahoo Wa. Beat the Spartans.
I can't tell you how much I hate the boring, uniform blue and black NCAA paint scheme on every court.
Only paint colors allowed by the NCAA. Anything extra would be a violation, akin to putting cream cheese on the plain, colorless bagel.
Looking like the Elite Eight is going to be 37.5% B1G.
Let's just call it like it's goin to be. UConn vs msu on Sunday, can UConn pull off the upset?
For a long time in b-ball, I rooted for Sparty if they weren't playing us. Not anymore. Too much complaining, too much media slobber all over their whiny-ass hand-breaking weird-guy roster, too much Izzo going off the deep end. Go Huskies.
Spot on man! I can't stand them especially with the media pronouncing them champs already. Makes me sick, Izzo is the biggest crybaby ever
Virginia making a bit of a run
Payne jumps up, bobbles the ball, lands and MSU gets a jump ball call, not a travel. On replay, the VA defender wasn't even close to him and all Raftery can say is "great defense." The officiating has sucked all around tonite
Good for UVa anyway since they didn't score and the possession arrow flipped.
Does he get a sb for that?
MSU is baffled by this pac line defense.
I turned it on thinking that this was a win-win--MSU advances, three B1G teams are in the Great 8; they lose and MSU loses. Soon as I started to watch my loathing for MSU too over and I'd just like Virginia to pound them.
Any chance that kid can stop yelling on the KY/Louisville game? Sounds like he's miked. Jesus.
Kentucky closing in on Louisville at the half... until Smith hits a ridiculous floater off the top of the backboard to stretch it back to a 3-point game.
I really can't decide if MSU or UVa will win. So I'm going to hope for the MSU loss.
Louisville up 34-31 at the break.
Virginia looking sharp these past few minutes. Gary Harris gets a big bucket as I type that, though.
Just amazes me how MSU is literally allowed to tackle and grab guys
I can't shake the feeling nobody is beating Sparty. Go ahead and hate me. I do, too.
they come and go. Check your analytical side every now and then, too.
From watching the games in the tournament it seems like that is the case. Officials calling it here and there, but still letting it go for the most part.
Pretty much the concern everybody had about how it would play out, that the refs would be tough on it early in the season, and than gradually become more and more lax.
Let more go than during the season. The officials said before the tournament that they would call it consistently
More likely to overcome halftime deficit: UK or UVA?
Uk, msu is going to win by double digits.
MSU has a tendency to lose when I'm not watching. I missed their losses against Georgetown, Nebraska, Illinois, Ohio State, North Carolina AND I missed their loss to us at Breslin because I was down in Miami at a wedding.
So I'm going to keep watching Kentucky/Louisville. Hopefully that helps.
Roommate went to UVa so I'm pretty familiar with them. That was an uncharacteristically bad half for them. Give the Hoos respect. I think they win this one by at least 7.
By the way, any chance we can get some fans to Indy by Sunday? Looked like we had like 500 fans there. I know most will be UK/LOuisville today, but geez. The UM contingent looked and sounded small.
Russ Smith is speedy out there
Louisville had 15 free throws in the first half?! Wow
Hopefully Louisville Kentucky goes to 7 overtimes.
I just went through some of the stuff posted over at the World Wide Leader about the Tenn. game and holy schnikes, they love the Vols. It's like they're lobbying the NCAA to retroactively give Michigan an L and let the Vols play on Sunday. Every other sentence is Tennessee was so great, Tennessee was so amazing, Tennessee did exactly what they had to do but just didn't have time to come back, Michigan was luck yot hold on, Michigan got the benefit of the refs' calls and Tennessee was really fighting an uphill battle... sickening.
I believe a couple of the higher-ups are OSU alums, so it's not surprising.
I want MSU to lose solely for the fact that I am curious what excuse they will use
Appling is only at 93.5% and Izzo's voice was only at 48%.
I still can't stand Luke Hancock.
Tom Izzo looks like he's gonna have a stroke.
MSU actually has the nerve to complain about the refs
UVA plays with so much effort and tenacity on D. Very impressive. I'd love to incorporate a bit more of that into our team - we'd be unstoppable with our offensive firepower.
Offense is a little iffy, but their defense is suffocating. I would be surprised if this isn't a tight game that goes down to the last couple of minutes.
If they had 1-2 other legit options on offense they'd be terrifying.
Virginia is really playing well now. They look good and strong. That could be a problem for us. But MSU knows us - I like our Beilein advantage against VA better.... and I hate watching MSU win pretty much anything.
And go UK - also taking the lead.
We wouldn't play UVa until the national title game, and by that point you're playing someone good, regardless. So I'm not too worried about that. I just want them to finish off Sparty.
yesterday I said all 4 games today would be better than any game yesterday. Not a bad night of basketball.
3 great games tonight (missed the ISU UConn obviously)
Looked good but I think the late games last night ended up being good so I wasn't saying I was correct. But I know this is some damn good basketball on right now.
This is heaven after a Michigan win.
Payne with a nice rock there. Go Cavs.
Belongs in the B1G.
Izzo would trade teams in a second. One team has all the NBA draft stars. The other team plays with tenacity and as a team.
This is how MSU used to play about 7-8 years ago.
Any Sparties in foul trouble?
nah, no one has more than 2.
Bummer. But UVA is getting the rebounds.
I'm interested what UVA's run has been since that Sparty floor slap in the first half.
Relentless defense... I appreciate it. Wow.
Appling is soooool bad lol
UVA shooting 2/7 for the half and went from behind to ahead...thats sick defense lol
Is about to catch up with staee.
Swear to god this is a B1G game. And a good one.
this is a heavyweight tilt.
Dawson has played a lot better since his injury - I will give him that. He was like GR3 where he drifted in and out of games and entire weeks. Now he is playing with purpose. Still absolutely no game outside of 4 feet but he has elite athleticism at the college level and basically is saving MSU tonight and vs Harvard.
Kentucky on a run
Is getting the workout of a lifetime.
just stream one of the games!
Gary Harris for a lottery pick has been nowhere today. Valentine for being a late season sophomore and a coach's son is doing nothing - Valentine at UM would probably be declaring for the draft in a few weeks; he has all the tools but plays like a bonehead.
Virginia's offense is awful
Virginia is missing all of their bunnies.
is just awful
UVa missing some close shots. refs missing some fouls. this 4th quarter will be all Cavs
UVA shooting 34% lol. Man if they could shoot 40%...
UVA's been putting up awful shots in the last 5 minutes. Can't keep doing that against this team.
MSU wins. UVA just isn't good at offense
Payne is yelling in the face of anyone underneath his dunks. Lance Stephenson would suggest not doing that.
Committee really messed up this year. UVA is not a 1
Not enough offense. Take back what I said earlier, they are in fact just a good team not a great one.
Don't think UVA comes back from down 7 here. Shooting horrid. Perhaps all that defensive effort just means its difficult to find your legs on offense. They have no answer for Dawson.
7 point game with 7min to go seem insurmountable for this UVA team
Yayyy Msu wins...
Man I hate Hancock...
Virgiia's offense is god awful.
It's not over. UVA can still do this.
Refs won't let MSU to lose. But let's go Cat's!
Harrell really scares me. He is big and athletic and angry...
damn it, UVA seem fatigued from that intense defense they showed in the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half
it was almost a perfect night of basketball
No way Staee loses this game. Fuck them.
Can Dawson make a shot outside 2 feet? I realize he has like 20 points in each of the last 2 games, but all of them are layups and dunks. Thats a serious question though, does he have a jumper? Would it be good strategy to play off of him and make him shoot?
No. He is a rebound and dunk player.
He is basically a shorter Dennis Rodman of the NCAA.
What was the UVA coach yelling? I got "What the hell was that?" But I could not get the rest.
UVA is sort of where Bo Ryan was 3-4 years ago. You find a few guys like Kaminsky and Dekker and they take the next step. They have no one to feed on offense - Harris is their main guy and is 5-13. They don't have a Kaminsky to dump it into all day. Frankly they play way better defense than Wiscy.
UVA must be in single digits in shooting by now.
Go UVA, you're in the bonus - exploit that
C'mon please please Jesus.
I was wrong. UVA can make a 7-0 run.
Shooting 33% on the nite yow. And UK Louis tied!
both of these are coming down to the wire
Offensive explosion for them the last minute.
Very strange no call to call sequence there... A lot of bodies flying around. No Harrell is bad news for Louisville. I'm coming around on the idea that we match up better with KY though. They are just not smart players, and with a one day break I think Beilein will prove that Calipari is an awful coach. Hope they can pull it off.
I'm genuinely happy to catch both of these games - so entertaining.
I can't watch - my dislike of Sparty is that strong that I can't stomach possibly seeing them win.
Bring it home, UVa.
lol harris ball swirled!
I do enjoy watching Izzo stroke out.
Tom Izzo having a conniption
cmon both games at 30 seconds, ridiculous
ACC was really down this year if Virginia was able to run through it lol
I need picture and a picture at a time like this.
I don't even get what Izzo is freaking out about half the time. It looks like someone just shoved hotsauce up his butt, but there's really nothing to be yelling about...
CMON 5 OT Loui-UK!
Gettin ready for another blown out of bounds call.
These are two tight games
WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK
Wooooooow Appling just got away with MURDER. That is BULL. SHIT.
Boy Appling got away with murder there.
MSU gets a huge break.
what the holy fuck was that???
That was clearly a foul, shitty officiating all around today.
Not. Surprised. MSU allowed to do whatever the fuck they want. izzo silent, obviously.
Wow that push off
Hey what do ya know, more terrible officiating.
Once again it is proven that basketball refs are absolutely the worst there are. Horrible officiating occurring in both games simultaneously.
Appling gets away with a two handed shove lol
That Kentucky-Louisville game has been at 15 seconds for a long time. What's up?
Refs took an hour to decide not to overturn another out of bounds call they should have overturned.
The refs are so horrible they clearly can't even make the right call in slow motion. Just flip a f'ing coin and be done with it.
Looked like they got it wrong again.
too bad Virginia has no offensive prowess or they'd have this game easily
If they had any offense they;d be odds on fav to win it all - their defense is nuts.
Virginia's offense was utterly painful to watch.
What a joke. Staee will get to the Final Four and we will have to hear everyone talk about sucking Izzo's dick for a whole week.
The funny thing is that you would think he gets all these generous calls by sucking some dick, but really all he does is verbally punch the refs in the balls the whole game. I guess they like it like that.
Hate this...I have very little faith in Uconn....
Refs are awful in both games. What a travesty
Sparty survives. Louisville gets another favorable block call.
Giving the ball to Louisville when the replay showed it was off them.
And then they call the clean block a foul. Geez. What a screw job on Kentucky.
Louisville blew the free throw.
How did I know that the refs would screw UVA and us on the same night.
Should've had UVa ball down 2. That was absolute horseshit. Never have I wanted state to lose more in a game not against us.
Not a banner day from the zebras.
A missed FT and UVA trip to send it to OT would be nice.
UK scares me - reminds me so much of the Fab 5 teams. Come together in the tourney, elite skill etc.
we gotta hope we play like Duke or NC did in those games. Just execute like hell and hold on.
Kentucky's gonna win.
Argh...unlike some folks, I cannot take solace to the fact that this may help the perception of the BIG10
I would be a lot less disappointed if they had just won by ten. Instead they won by Appling dishing out a forearm shiver to a guy when trying to break an effective press and got off scott free.
Looks like it's gonna be Kentucky
So cathartic to see Louisville lose despite the refs trying to gift-wrap it for them in the final two minutes.
I'm glad they are gone. The refs seem to love to give them gift calls by the bushel,
Nice three. Comes too late though.
Izzo must have bad gas. He looks like he's in pain.
Nice 3, but why the hell did UVA take so much time on that possession???
It's going to take a miracle here.
Hey at least we are in the "glamour" game.
Curious to see if UK has a hangover as they just played the basketball equivalent of Ohio State UM in football.
Seriously? Is there anything Izzo doesn't bitch about?
almost more than Dantonio
Dont you miss this FT on purpose if you are MSU - cant advance up the court in 1.1 seconds.
EDIT - yes you do.
looks like they adopted that strategy
strategy blow up in their face, if that somehow would have went in.
First question in post game interview mentions injuries, would the media just let that shit die already?
MSU won on a two handed push.
Tonight was an amazing night of basketball.
So appling push off won for MSU - congrats. Narduzzi coaches PGs now.
LOLZ MSU gets UCONN to punch their ticket to the final 4
Quit bitching. Jeez...you guys have to make everything about State. Such a "little brother" mindset. Who gives a fuck about them. Worry about us and if we see them on the final Monday then go beat their brains in.
Dang, I'm sorry my comment bothered you THAT much.
That said, please chill out, and let go of the silly "little brother" meme (I personally think it's pretty lame). I'm not a player, just a random fan who also enjoys catching/following some of UM's rivals (maybe that's not the case for you, but hey, that's just my way of enjoying sports so please let it go). Not sure if "worrying about our game" is really that important for me (or you).
Kentucky is a lower seed than UConn, MSU just beat a 1-seed, and we've only had to beat the 15, 7, and 11 seeds thus far. Glass houses
UConn doesn't stand a chance, staee is going to walk to the title game and probably win it. Barf
Not going to give them that one, but I certainly wouldn't bet against MSU making the title game unfortunately
#1 they're playing UConn at the Garden...that's no cakewalk
#2 look at the seeds we will have had to play to get to the Final Four.
They just beat a 1-seed. Give credit when it's due. Or don't and just don't say anything at all.
I was giving credit where it's due. They just took out a one seed in a game that didn't seem as close as the score and they now have a much easier path in addition to probably being one of the few teams that can match up with Florida.
I am so glad I was at a bar and couldn't hear the announcers. They are unbareable when MSU plays. They have been healthy for a month and it is still all the commentators dwell on.
And Cauley-Stein is hurt...I REALLY like our chances.
What happened to Cauley-Stein? Wasn't watching earlier.
Yelled that it "popped."
but in the end, we were the only non-upset of the night
#7 over #3
#4 over #1
#8 over #4
It was horrifying, but as they say, a win's a win in the tournament. Advive and survance
BUT MSU was favored.
I am so sick of this Princess Lacy story, and I don't feel bad about it. The press just ruins every feel good story.
They're going to find something and beat it into your skull.
I think the right reaction is "hooray for her but considering what Payne allegedly did his freshman year, let's not hold him up like some kind of humanitarian."
There is nothing, NOTHING to dislike about an 8-year old girl fighting cancer and her relationship with MSU basketball players.
Odds the media obsesses over the total bullshit non-call on Appling?
Elite 8; ACC - 0, Big 12 - 0, Pac 12 - 1, BIG - 3. Welcome to the BIG 10 bitches...
Me and my dad are in a block pool for March Madness (for those of you who don't know what it is, you have blocks that have the last number of the winning team's score and losing team's score. For every game you win, you get money, and the number increases each round). One of our blocks is 2 for the winners, 9 for the losers. If Izzo didn't have Harris miss that last free throw on purpose, we would've won $200. So Tom Izzo cost us $200. Moral of the story, fuck Sparty
Rece Davis said MSU is still not fully healthy....I mean WTF?! Come on already give it a fucking rest
Media loves to protect Izzo.
is the charge call at the end. What about the blown out of bounds call. Or how about the fact that Michigan is a really good team and going to their 2nd straight Elite 8
And of course they all picked Kentucky to win.
