a couple years ago and i've never stopped loathing that kevin smith looking douche. to expand: super fan is all about being THE SUPER FAN. it's all about his costume, his cowbell, his enthusiasm, blah blah blah. Michigan football exists to make him feel good. it's ridiculous, self-centered, annoying behavior. his whining is as pathetic as Valenti's MAKE PLAYS rant where he compares his "effort" to "get people on their feet" to what the guys on the field do.

I wasn't all that upset by the loss, knowing one would come eventually and that losing to MSU would (hopefully) light a fire under our asses. This sentiment generally seemed to be echoed by the MGoNation... This guy is like our version of the crazy Sooner Brian posted at TSB...

I agree, I hope he didn't break his ankle, just his effing neck. What an ass. "All they did was go out and lay an egg. I expect better. I demand better!" Hey fat ass, this is a really young team. They are not going to be consistent. Crap happens. Get over yourself. And ditch the damn costume, you're a grown man.

I think he should change his name to "Super Bandwagon-jumper." Superfan epitomizes everything that is wrong about so-called "fans" who jump ship at the first sign of adversity. Superfan has proven that he doesn't have as much courage in his entire mind, body, and soul as Tate Forcier does in his little finger.

There's only three people I've run into on the Internet that I'll risk being embarrassed by and actually, honestly, swear on my life meeting in the parking lot for a throw down. 1. GSimms. I'm coming for you 2. Poole1Dan, because I have no problem fighting the mentally handicapped. 3. Superfan. I've hated you and your kind since I was a small child.

I used to think you were a huge douche, but I can see now that you're basically just a dickier version of me. I'd be honored to throw down with you every day. Also, you hit my thoughts exactly on Poole1Dan. If I ever got the chance to meet that guy, I'd have no problem kicking him in the face. Hell, that might actually increase his brain power!

Michigan "fans" get a bad image of being arrogant when we win, and whiners when we lose. If he wants to be a super fan, he shouldn't be perpetuating this image. Another armchair QB/coach. I didn't hear any suggestions from him how it should have been done differently. Keep ringing your cowbell, and wearing your mask. Useless.

Spot on. For the last month, I've had ND fans whining to me about the officiating in our game against them, rather than just sucking it up and admitting that if Evans turns around & catches the ball, the game ends. Great game of football, we won, eat it. Their constant whining is a disgrace to the school & the fanbase. Please, let's not be like that.

I can smell what he's steppin in, he just went too far. He's rolling around in it, smearing it all over his face and styling his hair with it. I can understand being upset over a perceived lack of focus or intensity, but too say it in all caps is uncalled for.

Hey, Superfan, UM hasn't won a consensus NC in football since 1948 - 61 years ago. How about a few paragraphs on that for our enjoyment?

And to think that a mere month ago he was trying to lead the way to show support for Rodriguez. I suppose the chant after the National Anthem should have been: Rich-Rod-Ri-Guez! (clap! clap! clapclapclap!) (but if you lose, I'll whine like the jelly-spined supporter that I am)

disagreement and douchery for noobs here. People always wonder about getting negged, and here it is: you can generally criticize the staff for a specific move or game as long as you have rationale, but if you stoop to "UNFORGIVEABLE" and this guys' schtick, the negs will flow.

He's dumping on Rodriguez, not Michigan. He's jumping off of the coach's bandwagon, not the team's. There's a huge difference. I don't agree with him, but let's not deny that there are some pretty troubling signs from the last couple of games that don't bode well for the future of the program. (although the "RAWWRRR! FIRE RODRIGUEZ NOW" business is definitely over the top.)

Please elaborate on these "troubling signs" for the "future of the program". Are they any of the following? Sign 1. We have not played well on defense? This is debatable given our talent level (which can be traced back to Carr), and one could argue we've coached around our deficiencies on D. Sign 2. Our offense sputtered (in one game only)? There will be growing pains and our offense will progress in fits and starts. The other games demonstrate the efficacy of the offense. Sign 3. An article of dubious credibility was written by a known Rodriguez detractor? This subject has been beaten down enough. Sign 4. ????? You suggest that the program is going in the wrong direction when the evidence seems to suggest otherwise.

Sign 1 -- Our defensive talent is still at least average or above average on defense. Boubacar Cissoko was the #1 ranked player in the state of Michigan in 2008 and he had offers from other big time recruiteres like LSU and Tennessee. There are numerous four-star players that are either showing mediocrity or not even getting on the field. Guys like Smith, Mouton, Patterson, Fitzgerald, Williams, and Demens. There are also lots of three star guys look Woolfok and Ezeh, who weren't as highly recruited, but aren't chopped liver either. And then, of course, Carr left behind studs like Warren and Graham. This is not bad recruiting. You want to see some really shitty recruiting? Look at Iowa's recent lists of commits. They would kill to have our recruiting. So would Northwestern and probably five or four dozen other teams in the country who have inferior recruiting to us but a much better defense. Robinson looks like a good hire, but the fact that he has no tools with which to do anything besides manage bleeding is pretty unsettling. By the way, if you didn't like Carr's last few years of defensive recruiting, then you must really hate Rodriguez's 2010 class. But I'll give Rodriguez a pass for this year's class since it's probably directly related to 3-9. Even if he gets a pass for it though, it's one more year before the defense gets some help. Sign 2 -- Our offense definitely "sputtered". Now that's an understatement. How does "completely blown to smithereens for 54 minutes" sound? Keep in mind that we have yet to face an even above average defense. Our offense has shown improvement beyond the unimaginably bad levels of 2008, but it hasn't proven anything other than that yet. In the meantime, Western Michigan has proven to be much more terrible than anyone thought. They are a bottom feeding MAC team. So is Eastern Michigan. Those are the only two teams that we have outplayed. We got outplayed by Notre Dame and Indiana at home, and then we got dominated by Michigan State. I've said my piece. And just to reiterate, I'm not a "fire RichRod" guy. Long term, I think we're in good hands, but I'm still pretty nervous about it, and I'm going to be until we get a couple of signature wins and maybe a nine-win season.

1. The fact that we are playing three walk-ons completely refutes your point vis-a-vis our prior recruiting and talent level. That is a proof positive that we did not recruit adequately. There was also already a post that MichiganDan did regarding our recruiting versus Iowa. At best, we have similar talent, and we have had three coordinators in three years. Why am I sill arguing this point? 2. We were outplayed by Notre Dame? Really? And let's not forget that both the Indiana and MSU game were after Molk's injury. I guess it's all about perspective and looking at the team and taking into account certain qualifiers and nuances, but I just think that you are extrapolating inaccurately.

"The fact that we are playing three walk-ons completely refutes your point vis-a-vis our prior recruiting and talent level. " What? No it doesn't. Good recruiting means beating other big time programs for big time recruits and Carr DID do this in his past few years. At the very least, Carr's level of recruiting doesn't remotely explain how bad the defense is. As I explained earlier, lots of teams that play better defense than Michigan would have killed to get the likes of Boubacar Cissoko. JT Floyd had at least decent competing offers from the likes of Miami, Tennessee, and South Carolina. Blaming our abysmal cornerback situation (and the bad defense, in general) on Carr's recruiting is just absurd.

Allmanski

October 7th, 2009 at 3:48 PM ^

One example does not a trend make. Cissoko was highly recruited, I grant you. But getting one good recruit does not mean that we recruited well for the defense as a whole, as evidenced by the fact that we are now playing three walk-ons. Also, the two players you are citing as evidence of our recruiting prowess are a sophomore and redshirt freshman, respectively. If we had recruited appropriately during Carr's tenure, we would have upper classmen manning these positions. There is no debate on this point.

wolverine1987

which is that going by recruiting rankings, if you assume for the sake of argument that they are predictive of results, we--so far-- are not playing to that level, So far, Mouton has to be labelled a mild disappointment, along with Cissoko and Floyd. It's also true that other B!0 teams with lower recruiting rankings than us are better statistically than us. I do agree that recruiting slipped with Carr from where it used to be--hard to argue with that IMO-- but that doesn't necessarily = cupboard is bare. The cupboard was neglected and in need to catch-up shopping.

Allmanski

October 8th, 2009 at 9:14 AM ^

Yes recruiting rankings should be predictive -- in the long run. But here we are talking about young players not yet performing up to their potential, which like yeah, that's par for the course. Further, those with lower recruiting rankings probably have more upper classmen and therefore more experienced players. So I would expect them to play better than us right now.

playing time. Defensive recruiting at Michigan has not been good for a long time and it's evident when we have tons of younger guys pushing for playing time. That just shouldn't happen. I don't see how anyone can not look at RR's resume compare it to resumes of previous Michigan fires and not realize "Oh wow so this is what a competent application looks like". To put it another way Michigan since Bo had not gone out and really recruited for the best coach they just hired family/close friends who knew the business sure, but didn't have the resumes of other applicants. Now we get a guy who has a great resume, has been a winner everywhere and you're afraid?

He offered to paint my face; I politely declined. He later went off to talk about how the people he had hooked a ride with to State College had ditched him at an Ohio Turnpike rest area but he managed to find a new group of people to ride with to the game. In light of what a pest he was coming off as, I thought to myself, "I can't blame them, really; but it was kind of a dick move to ditch him." Seriously though, how much of a pest do you have to be to get ditched my classmates/fellow fans? Everytime I see him on TV, I think of that encounter and what a tool he was. Thanks to this link, I can upgrade him to full-on douche.
