Super Conference Expansion and the BCS . . .

Submitted by ImSoBlue on

I think that the creation of all of these "Super Conferences" may ultimatly facilitate the holy grail of college football - championship playoffs.

Due to conference champions, fewer playoff games would be required so a 2 round (4 team) chanpionship looks more feasible.  BCS would still be in place to pick the top 4, but there would be less uncertainty about the "worthness factor".

But what if you have the Big12 problem from a few years back, with three teams all wanting to go to the conference championship game? I'm all for shifting the burden of making those types of calls to the conferences and having a 4 team playoff from the 4 winners of the major conferences, but there still will be problems someone in the process.

We'll still have 5 16-team super conferences. We'll do 3 at large bids. The first round will be the current BCS Bowls. "Tradition" saved.

and the ability to host a conference title game where 2 teams would play a 13th game before a bowl.   Why not have it set up where all teams play a cross division game at the end of the year.   The championship game could be at 8 pm at Ford field or Lucas oil and the rest could be at on campus sites.   My understanding of this is that the league would have to petiton the ncaa for it to happen but I dont know why they wouldnt.   Myself I dont really want a true playoff, if we get to where there are 4 16 team conferences I would like to see the bcs games as quarterfinals and have 3 games follow.   A playoff will never happen because SEC schools would have a absolute fit if they had to play in AA, Minny, or Madison in early December.
