Super Bowl XLVII Thread

I guess somebody had to do it. Less than an hour until the Cake-Demanding Harbaughs take on the Demands-Yet-To-Be-Uttered Harbaughs. As Bo smiles from football Valhalla...

Commence.

Not a "blame the refs guy" and I have no horse in this race but the "let 'em play" attitude in any big game annoys me and it's rampant in this game. Rules are rules. A late hit in week 4 is a late hit in the SB. Same for PI, false start, UR, USLC, leading with helmet to another helmet, etc. But don't tap the kicker. EVER. haha

The five yard line might be the sweet spot for the Ravens D.  Harder to exploit the fact that Lewis and Reed are slow when the field is so short.

Harbaugh needs to chill.  While there was contact, it would have been a none issue if your QB wasn't desperately launching a ball off his back foot to avoit the interior blitz.  That was really the definitively aspect of that play, not the fact that the WR and DB were getting all touchy and feely.  Smith has his hands on Crabtree, but Crabtree is also pushing off of Smith's head and flirting with facemask contact.

I wouldn't say uncatchable, Crabtree is good, but extremely unlikely.  Lets say Smith never touches Crabtree, Crabtreee still has to dodge around the space occupied by Smith.  Then he has to catch a backfoot pass that was thrown before he was expecting it, and he is likely getting hit by Ed Reed as he brings it in.

To me it really comes down to, both sides were making contact and throwing the flag is still deciding the game in a sense (since it means first and goal at the one).  If the zebra swallows the whistle, the 49ers fans are pissed because of the no call.  If the zebra calls it, the Ravens are pissed because there was contact on both sides.

Take the safety.  It does two things for you.  First you punt from the 20 instead the back of your endzone.  Secondly at 34 to 31, SF is now likely playing for a field goal to tie instead of the touchdown.  That means that as opposed to losing when they score a TO in regulation, you at least get a shot at OT.

Edit:  Or the 49ers could be unprepared and now they are unlikely to even get a shot at a regulation play.

Simms was flipping awful the last 2 minutes of the game. On the holding non-call, he repeatedly claims both players are making contact, but fails to mention that Crabtree only pushed off to disengage from the hold. Just call it a hold Phil!

Then the one word, zero justification response to whether the Ravens should take a safety, "No". That's the best color commentary that CBS has to offer???
