Super Bowl Open Thread
Man I hate working during the super bowl, but atleast bartending I will be able to watch.
Let's see Sir Charles get his ring.
Here's to Sir Charles continuing the trend of Michigan Heisman winners getting the Super Bowl MVP in addition to that ring.
GO PACK GO!!!
I'm working for at least the first half. Can't get Fox at work either. Anyone know any streams?
You'll be able to find the commercials on the internet tomorrow
I'm an actual football fan and couldn't care less about the commercials. Hell, we saw all of them online today anyway.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1P0yfq2wDvU
Can this guy please be tonights broadcaster?
No Up With People pregame concert?
Gumby isn't Co-Broadcasting
How much value added does Fox get from paying what's his name to do this intro? $0?
The dude abides?
is anyone else hoping for a national anthem nipple slip?
Seems pretty unlikely.
Well, I already have my front-runner for best commercial. The "instant replay" trailer for Adam Sandlers new movie.
No way. The Volkswagen commercial with the little kid dressed as Dart Vader is the unanimous winner.
That commercial is awesome, and it hasn't even aired yet.
You guys were right ... that was a good one.
Lyric slip...oops
Ramparts...
Did she fuck up the lyrics towards the middle or was I just hearing things?
You weren't hearing things.
Thank you. The wife and I were looking for confirmation that our ears were not deceiving us.
I thought something seemed a little off, but I wasn't really listening.
That's ridiculous. It's not like its the first time she's ever sang the anthem either.
Come on Tremon!
The over under on the legnth of the national anthem was one minute fifty four seconds. I got exactly that on my timer. Everyone loses except the bookies as usual.
Let's be honest. If you were betting on the length of the National Anthem, you're a loser, even if you win the bet.
Just creepy.
Hilariously creepy.
They just showed the starters faces and we didn't have to go through the tension of who says "University of Michigan" or not?
YAM
Steelers didn't even try to stop that pick-six.
Only way it could BR better if it was Charles!
Note that Ryan Mundy essentially set that up with the block in the back. Angry Michigan Safety Hating God!
Chuck!
Vintage Woodson. Great play.
Plus a Michigan shout out!
Did anyone notice Christina Aguilera mess up the national anthem before the game?
Edit: Nevermind, already discussed, my bad :(
They cut the Vader commercial so much shorter! Nooooooooooo!
Buck and Aikman are horrible. Can they shut up for a minute?
Anytime Roseanne is hit with a 2 ton tree trunk is AWESOME in my book
The CareerBuilder commercial with the chimps deserves some props, that was a good one.
Looks like Ben shouldn't have been out partying on Tuesday night.
/s
Looking very blowoutlike.

** SUPER BOWL CHAMPION **
Now he's hurt.
Every NFL team should have a fight song. It's amazing to me that a franchise as old-school as the Packers has to resort to "Bang on the Drum" for post-TD music.
You're only allowed to have a fight song if you have a band to play it.
Don't be hurt.
Biggest heartbreak ever when he went to the locker room.
I guess it's not a surprise since he is from Ohio, but I can't say I wasn't a little surprised to see a giant tattoo of the state on the front of his right arm.
Never forget where you came from, dude.
We need to zoom in on cwood's arm. Maybe a small bit of text that says "worst state ever"
I hope Woodson is ok.
Well he's got like a four hour halftime to ice up that shoulder.
A ballgame.
Interesting to see how fast Pitt scored when the GB secondary was banged up..
from GB's secondary are back in the locker room?
of them
Where's Brian...?
Natch.
Waited to have his way with the GB secondary until they were in the bathroom.
The sound engineers for this halftime show need to be fired ASAP.
Might as well lump in the fashion desginers too. I didn't know this halftime was starring some twinkly space gladiators and Slash.
I SO want that guy's light up suit. I'll take Will.I.Am's helmet hair with digital readout too...
I think the theme for the halftime show is Tron meets WWE. This half time show cannot possibly contain any more FAIL.
I've avoided any problems by keeping it on mute.
I feel like this watching the half-time show.
That thing melting is more than just a man, it's also any shreds of dignity Slash had left.
Oh noes, Will.i.am just talked about politics at the halftime show - watch out for an actual banhammer to fall on him, most likely in the form of some ice that was not removed from the roof earlier.
North Korea is gonna be super pissed the Black Eyed Peas took their Olympic Opening Ceremonies on Meth idea for the Super Bowl.
I am not even a believer, and I want to be saved from the halftime show.
I tried, but I couldn't mute the TV fast enough. BEP made my ears bleed again.
That was quite possibly the worst thing ever.
Pretty awesome how they're willing to interrupt the flow of the game (the one that we're here to watch) for commercials, but not so for a halftime show.
D'oh.
i wonder what it would be like to drop a bunch of lsd, dress up like astronauts and dry hump a wall?
oh i'm sorry, are we not making ben roethlisberger jokes anymore? too soon?
The Black Eyed Peas are weak, weak, weak sauce.
but Fergie is looking nice and toned.
I was making a sandwich.
What did I miss?
A bad acid trip.
and watched a minute... Terrible. A sandwich was the right choice.
The end of creativity, artistic presentation.....nothing in particular really. It's easier to just sit down and watch the rest of the game.
Let's just say if their autotuner broke, they would've been completely screwed.
Autotune! I know I shouldn't have been surprised, but man, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
When it comes to everything that goes on outside the game itself, this is the shittiest Super Bowl in history. Terrible half-time show**, fucked-up anthem, and people turned away from their seats and offered a refund that probably doesn't cover their actual costs. I'd say Jerry Jones should be ashamed of himself, but he hasn't been embarrassed by anything since he was three. Piece of shit.
Turned away? Did they oversell?
Some temporary seats weren't constructed (and certified safe) in time.
How the hell does that happen for the Super Bowl? That alone should deny them the SB ever again if Jerry Jones is still running the show.
Snow and shit falling from the roof so the seats weren't safe?
Woodson out with collarbone injury.
Woodson out with broken clavicle. Super lame.
I did use the medically correct terminology though.
Chuck is out for the remainder of the game. This Super Bowl is going downhill in a hurry.
Woodson out. Damn. It.
If even Joe Buck says your call was bad, um...
Is a much sadder place.
What now? Root only for woodley?
I've resigned myself to the fact that, in all likelihood, next year's halftime show will feature Justin Beiber and The Jonas Brothers.
Bieber at least doesn't take himself all that seriously. He's always been pretty funny on SNL.
It was bad enough to see him on SNL with dana carvey. I cannot imagine putting that douchebag in the Superbowl.
I can see it now....
The Scene: MICH Stadium....At night.....against Notre Dame.....
It's halftime, and.....what's this? The band does not take the field.....
"Oh, hai guys, it's Justin Beiber."
Ok, I can't claim to be a Justin Beiber fan but please explain to me how he's a douchebag. This kid has done nothing to deserve all the hate he gets. At first I didn't care, but after a crowd of full grown adults booed him at a basketball game, I just felt bad for the kid. I bet that really ruined his day. If you don't like his music, don't listen to it! Imagine if Michael Jackson had been hated like that (he probably did, but I can't imagine that it was to that degree). Here's a breakdown of how the JB craze could go:
Teenage fall in love with love with young male artist, ruin it for everyone, it's "uncool" to like any JB song even when he actually makes an ok song that isn't childish. Option A: Artist fizzles out and/or breaks down due hate from public, grows up and isn't adorable anymore, teenage girls lose interest. Option B: Artist matures and so does his music, but because still no one wants to listen cause JB is "lame". Option C: Everyone grows the fuck up and lets JB have his time in the limelight.
Now, I'm not saying I'm gonna buy any of his albums, but I'm not gonna hate because teenage girls freak out when they see him. Sometimes I just want shake a teenager and ask why the hell she's crying over JB, but that's no reason to hate the kid. It's not his fault these kids psychopathic freaks when he is around them.
To summarize this short essay, stop the JB hate. He's just a kid, why is he even popular enough to be getting so much hate!!!???
I love the articles that were coming about his leadership this post-season, one of the best examples of Michigan in the NFL currently.
Well, at least this game is going to be interesting. Kind of funny that people were calling it a game at halftime. The Packers have a knack of letting teams stick around, and Pitt is definitely not going to freak out.
Sucks that Woodson is hurt. Hopefully the rest of the Pack can fill in.
Remember when Super Bowls were always blowouts? In the last decade or so, they've been really good games.
I thought the same thing. Nice for those hosting Super Bowl parties.
What's everyone drinking during the game?
Schlafly (a local St. Louis brewery) Pale Ale for me:
Nice, I had some Schlafly's for the first time over the holidays when I was in Wichita. Good stuff.
I'm currently drinking a Bell's Porter.
Oh hell, this Chrysler ad getting me pumped! Detroit baby!
Was damn cool.
Great ad. After so many generic "weird" or "funny" SB ads, nice to see an ad with a little substance to it.
Eminem just won the Super Bowl of kicking ASS.
had no idea he was from Turin.
but I have Frank Zombo still! CMU Chippewa class mate and our homes growing up are only a stones throw from each other!
"Imported from Detroit"
Great slogan!
Penalty.
Is this U-M hospital ad just a local spot? I didn't think they did that during the Super Bowl.
I didn't see it, but did see another local ad.
I'm out of state, and didn't see it. We had a local auto repair shop commercial.
Book it.
Steelers still in it!
Can they get a stop?
But that pitch...ok, that was Pro. Bravo. Play Call & Execution.
Or something, but Big Ben leading a last minute game winning TD drive is NOT how I want this game to end.
Maybe, but at least it's interesting.
Edit: You got your wish.
God I hope this doesn't work out.
Speaking of nice ends...
Here's to hoping for an MVP nod for CW.
Woodson gets his ring. All is well.
He wants it all, and he has it now.
And Charles gets a ring!
Wooooo!!! Woodson gets a ring!
Congrats to Charles!
Nice to see the mgoblog community has its priorities straight.
Matches Manning in Super Bowls, and keeps Big Ben behind Brady in Super Bowls 2-1 to 3-1. And Ben can be MVP for his two picks. The world is good. Crack open a cold one.
And he won Mr. Football in high school.
Defensive player of the year too.
I was rooting for the Steelers today but Charles Woodson deserves this and I couldn't be happier for him. They're just lucky that they didn't have to face the Lions in the playoffs.
Congrats. Wooooooooooooooood!
And to the Packers, home to the last 2 Super Bowl wins for our Heisman winners. Let's hope Denard gets drafted out there in 2013
He needs to get drafted by someone else, THEN go to GB....
You deserve it more than anyone else, congrats.
Did the PA guy not know how to read Roman numerals? ("And now, the MVP from Super Bowl . . . Roger Staubach!")
Guess not. Especially if he is from PA.
Ok, that was awkward. Staubach having to carry the trophy through a mass of grown, sweaty men while they all reach out and molest it. Looked like Staubach was a little scared.
Rodgers during the commercial break adopted a younger, more adorable baby than Brees' solely for the trophy ceremony.
I think we can all agree the Chrysler ad was the best by far of the night.
Also, WOOOOOOOOO!!! Woodson gets his ring baby!!
HA HA!
This was defintely one of the best parts of the Super Bowl. This and Woodson cementing his legacy.
The Glee Open Thread in a few minutes?
(I'm 3/4's kidding....)
As a performing arts major and former behind-the-scenes worker bee, I can tell you that show has NOTHING to do with how REAL performing arts works. All drama, botomless budgets, and no brains.
I forget who wrote it, but there was someone wise who said that a TV show or movie about anything will nearly always be laughable to people actually involved in the subject of said show or movie. Medical dramas are laughable to real doctors, military movies to real soldiers and sailors, and so forth.
Just look at Dr. House. Apparently he's the only doctor in the hospital capable of performing any medical procedures, from surgery to MRIs.
I think it's meant to be more a snarky, sarcastic, dark look in that environment. No more than The Simpsons reflects family life, Community is what it's like at a Community College, or the Big Bang Theory is how Physics Departments run.
All I know is, that show makes my soul bleed. I want to see a new version of Glee where they are all forced to practice 3-4 hours a day, every day and see how perky they are after that.
With Lombardi!!
Woodson getting his ring is my only solace in the loss. I can't remember feeling more dejected than I do right now
Michigan Football the last three years??
Finally gets the ring!
Shame he couldn't finish the game but he did enough during the season to fully appreciate the win.
I think this cements him as a HOF lock, no? Either way the SB ring definitely tops off an already amazing pro career.
Congratz Chuck!!!
Go Blue!!!!!
Last football game for over 6 months.
:(
