Well, now that we're in the midst of a very Murrican pregame (Charlie Brown shoutout), let's watch some footbaw.
to play football, not to play trumpet
No Super Bowl commercial thread?
Try living in East Tennessee with all of the diehard Peyton fans.
P.S. They are still overtly butthurt with the '97 Heisman.
I'm smoking out of my new super bowl.
that is one big 'Murican flag
Funny I don't remember her from The Sopranos.
I'm glad Joe Buck is calling this one.
/s? please /s
They're using Fake Lip Reading.
That is FANTASTIC.
Go Broncos. Sherman gives up 2 TD
I want Mike Pereira's job. He doesn't do anything but watch football and criticize officiating.
Great voice. But for a minute I wasn't sure if we were getting the National Anthem or Silent Night.
National anthem even worse than the Winter Classic, and I think worse than last Super Bowl.
At least it wasn't badly done.
But I didn't like that rendition at all.
Namath on some pimp shit.
Interesting to hear the National Anthem done by an opera singer. For the first time in a long time, I sat there and could only say, "Nice...". Not a bad job by both Renee Fleming and the chorus. They are putting on a nice one in the New York area (for this is New Jersey) so far...
Is Namath drunk again?
nice coat Namath....good lord.
You gotta admit, that was smooth.
Weather is actually not bad. Good thing people pulled an Izzo and threw a fit about it.
let's go packers ohh wait ..... my team is out go Sherman and Wilson just cuz Sherman is a beast yah a loud mouth but love his style Wilson repin B1G
My fucking car just died on my way to my friends to watch the game. Waiting on a tow truck now. I hate everything
haha i just downvoted you too
Wondering if anyone has a link to the game online?? Firstrowsports has a plug-in ad over the screen. I can hear it....but not see it.
With Firefox, that is. Works fine on Chrome.
It's gon' be NAAAAASTY.
great start Peyton....lol
That could not have started worse for the Broncos. Yikes.
As a neutral observer, that was the best start to a Super Bowl ever.
Hahaha Peyton face on that price less
Now Brady and Manning both can claim being responsible for a safety on the first play of the Super Bowl.
History already being made.
Broncos center was drafted by Millen. So this makes sense.
Look on Peyton's face there rivals the Hagerup one when he bobbled the snap.
Looks like the corporate stayed away.
I'm having the same problem on chrome. Boo.
Tried all links?
Adblock, Ghostery, win.
Not a surprise to see such a fast start for the Hawks.
That's a first down
Good job by the Broncos D to only give up a field goal there.
The challenge was for the first down, not necessarily the spot itself. Since they lost that challenge, they lose a timeout.
Personal foul on Seattle. No shock. First of many.
Defense, it wins championships you know.
Seattle's defense is the NFL version of Michigan State. They just play with so much swag. So envious. Both as a Michigan fan and a Lions fan.
Kam Chancellor reminds me so much of Ernest Shazor smh, shame he couldn't hang on in the NFL
If Shazor had been placed in this Seattle backfield he would look EXACTLY like Kam Chancellor
I went with Seattle in this, I have no rooting interest, just want a good game!
Why would you wear a dark visor in a night game?
That's like asking why you would wear sunglasses in a nightclub.
It's all about the swag, yo.
To look like a badass. Wish Michigan players were allowed to wear visors.
Y are they not allowed Charles Woodson wore one
I think I read that the coaches think it impedes their vision too much. I think Breaston wore one briefly though.
They're not allowed anymore in college for safety - to make it easier to tell if a player is unconscious.
We don't wear clear ones either though.
Yeah, but it doesn't look as cool when you're getting blown up five yards behind the line.
you can hear them in NJ! Safety!
oh man the 'hawks have come to play.
Yeah 'ol Mo is on their side - because they are bringing it on both sides of the ball.
Denver interior DL is winning so far...the differrence in this game so far.
matchups the difference in the game?
Should be 16-0, it's 8-0.
one score game despite Denver running a whole 4 offensive plays....that is why. Denver forcing seattle to throw the ball and keeping the game in shouting distance. That is why it is a whole 8-0 despite nothing from the Denver O
But shouldn't the "difference in the game" be something in Seattle's favor, given that they are ahead?
The difference in the game is Seattle's defense mauling Denver's offense.
dont understand that challenge Fox.....he just got some bad advice.
Agree. There is no way he is winning that.
Annnnd the award for X milions dollars wasted on a Super Bowl commercial goes to Bud Light.
Are you kidding me???
It was such a genius concept - undercover recording a random guy on a crazy night - taking him up an elevator with Don Cheadle and a Llama only to end up playing ping pong with Arnold Schwarzenneggar? How awesome would that be?!?!
pretty awesome for the guy. pretty shitty if you're just watching the commercial
I would hope nobody had a "shitty time" watching a beer commercial. If your mood is affected by a beer commercial to that degree, I'm sorry for you.
I though Arnold calling ping pong "tiny tennis" was funny enough for the whole commercial.
this country has completely fallen behind in it's quality of commercials. that was a shitty one.
We, as Americans, should expect more. If we're not exceptional in commercials, then we truly have lost out American exceptionalism.
I, for one, will be writing my congressman demanding that the advertising industry receive more subsidies.
It's a moral imperitive.
These bud light commercials are terrible.
With some luck, Denver could break 10 yards of total offense in the first quarter. They currently have all of eight yards on five plays, or 1.625 yards per play.
Also, is this going to be the "Eff it, here's a challenge..." game now?
these commercials are turrible. step up your game, souless ad execs
Do we have a blowout in the making?
I sort of hope so, but still want to see a decent game. I don't like Manning.
Greatest Show on Turf being stymied by a stingy defense and young quarterback?
Wilson throws like Rita Wilson.
Uh he's no Brady, but Russell Wilson has a damn good arm.
He isn't an elite passer, but that doesn't mean he isn't a good QB. He clearly is a winner. I just think the comparison to Brady is a bit premature.
Totally agree with that and as a second year pro he's got nowhere to go but up. I just assumed by comparing him to Rita Wilson you were saying he wasn't any good. He's shown the ability to make just about every throw and has the work ethic to get him there now it's just a matter of putting together the resume.
This game has the makings of a blowout.
before getting on the field, too. OTOH, Denver still lucky to only be down 8.
We've had a run of mostly very good games over the past decade of Super Bowls. Are we getting a "throwback" blowout tonight?
As long as we don't go back to that 80s/90s run where the NFC dominated for like 10yrs or so I can deal with a blow out here and there.
The Radio Shack commercial was pretty good - lots of good 80s references there. I'm sure most kids were like wtf was that ant-eater.... (Alf)
game coach. I knew Seattle would come out with their hair on fire.
I guess Peyton Manning's NOT the greatest QB of all time? Ridiculous that people were saying if he won THIS game the debate was over.
The games over already?
better than Montana. No one is better than Montana. You might equal him, but better? Nah.
Even if he does win this one, how could you place him ahead of Montana or Brady?
Can one count out Point-man Peyton?
ALF and Hulk Hogan in the same commercial....that is a win.
The more I watch football, the more I think that it's really just a contest between the offensive and defensive lines.
Every skill player I know would disagree.
So take it for what it's worth.
Any Wolverimes on either team?
No. The RR years hurt us in that department.
Are the Lions the team we want to represent the fight against cancer?
Then I started hearing all the talk about if Peyton wins, it will arguably make him the greatest QB ever. I'm like, what about Unitas, Brady, Starr, Elway, etc. so, I decided to cheer for the Seahawks.
The Denver D is going to be worn out by the second half.
Yeah I know Denver can come back but seriously, defense wins championships. Or gives you a chance every darn game
If I'm John Fox, I'm telling Peyton that it's all four down territory. No more punting, superstar, go out there and either win it or lose it.
Wouldn't be a football a game with a Tebow reference or... commercial.
but Tebow's commercials are pretty funny.
LOL......I like Tim Tebow now.
well technically you like the ad writer for TMobile but yes - not sure why people dont like the guy other than the media lavishes attention. He is really a super nice guy - just not good at being a NFL QB.
We can save the whales, we can talk to animals, and we can bring world peace!!
This game is pretty damn lame so far. I didn't really want to watch a blow out.
the BWW janitor.
If this game gets out of hand, Puppy Bowl X is pretty competitive this year.....
I love defense like this. It's a beautiful thing to witness.
On this we agree* .. watching a defense dominate is pretty awesome.
*unlike your contention Hoke is about to pull off a 4 year run like Dantonio.
I think it's hilarious that you still pose as a Michigan fan when 70% of your posts are about how great MSU is.
Thank you. I am such a good faker, considering I praise Beilen considerably. The football program is way below par for this program and you can continue to clap and ignore that Michigan fan would love to have success Dantonio has had the past 4 years.
p.s. I will rip on MSU bball next year a lot when I think their team will be a flop. :)
You actually are a good faker, and I do have to give you credit for that. You've been here almost two years, have "alum" in your name as well as an SI cover of a victorious Michigan, allowing you to pretty much evade suspicion (although several posters called you out on it during FB season).
it COULD happen. Big difference.
is this about the time they turn off the power? Or is that not going to be a super bowl tradition?
It's all about the sprinklers.
Lining up in the shotgun on 3rd and an inch and throwing a pass has to be a little embarrassing for the Denver OL.
Is ranting about 'who cares if you run the ball or whatever, just win the freaking game and shut up '.
Sounds to me like she's got her priorities straight.
Denver going screen crazy.....
Borges and Hoke might be watching.
I have it on good authority, that they are no longer facebook friends.
best tweet today - for you Seinfeld fans
Kramer meets Peyton Manning before the game and convinces him to stop saying Omaha. K: "Change it up! What's the worst that could happen?"
I think his problem is that the Bad Lip Reading people made him say "Voldemort."
I think this Seattle defense is the best I have ever seen. Fast, tough, confident, cocky, and disciplined.
Denver might not score a point in the first half.
Denver needs to re-group.
He is looking like Elway vs the Niners.
His o-line is getting beaten regularly and the Denver D is selling out to stop the run and getting shreaded by the pass.
I've always contested the '85 Bears were the best D I've ever seen, if this game continues like this, I'll be changing my opinion.
It is an interesting debate because the NFL has changed the rules to emphasize offense so much from the 80s. Much harder to be a dominant defense nowadays. Plus much harder to keep your team together with free agency now vs 80s.
The remarkable thing is how little money Seattle has in its defense. They gave Harvin a boatload of money and I think they have like one or two guys at $5-$6M on the defense, and the rest of those guys make like $1-$3M. I think Avril is one of their highest paid guys in fact.GOing to lose a bunch of them in free agency the next few years but the drafting is fantastic. It is a very young defense to boot.
They had studs at all levels. Tampa's defense is more talented than this Seattle defense. The Hawks don't have a Sapp or Brooks along their front 7.
Agreed. TB had some great defenses. But those were older guys too mostly - in the league 5-7 years so we knew a lot of their names. One wonders if Seattle is mostly "no names" because (a) they are on the west coast and not east coast and (b) most are 2-3 year players. Maybe some of these Seattle guys will be a lot better known in 3 years...dunno.
Seahawks this year have often reminded me of the so-so Jim McMahon, team defense model.
Seattle could be up even more if they did not get stymied in the red zone more. THought the San Fran Seattle winner would win this game but thought it would be like 24-17 type of game. Pretty incredible start for Seattle.
So the first four drives for Denver:
Safety, three and out, Int, and Int. That's not too good.
Hey Peyton your guys are wearing orange not white LOL
If Eli available to sub in for Peyton? #JustAsking
I suddenly desire pistachios
I'm gonna give you an ominous stat: Denver usually loses when they trail 22-0 at half.
The half isn't over yet. It could get worse.
Peyton's getting spanked. I'm loving it
Mayweathers 10.5 mil on the Broncos not looking too god right now...
Largest comeback in SB history?
This is an old school Super Bowl blowout. Like many of the ones I remember growing up.
This game blows.
and apparently so do ours.
Boy this james sucks.
That looks like it will be reversed. 2 Ints for the Denver, a botched snap, and two close calls on fumbles.
Does any body give Peyton a chance ?
Considering Baltimore was up 22 last year yeah.
Never count out Pointman Peyton.
Yeah, I do. There are 2-3 QBs in the league I would say could mount a comeback under this situation, and Peyton is one of them (Brady, Rodgers being the other two).
There's a reason that defense wins championships.
What is the reason? ;)
What you did there. I see it. The snark is strong with this one.
Denver has kept their D off the field for most of the 2nd quarter.
We have been spoiled by SBs of late... lots of competitive games. Growing up in the 80s and 90s they mostly sucked :)
Unless you were a fan of the 49ers, Giants, Redskins or Cowboys.... yeah that period sucked. The NFC Championship game was the Super Bowl.
haha another good one
Super Bowl XLVIII is probably Peyton Manning's funniest commercial yet. He's very self-deprecating.
I don't like that call by Fox at all.
Google facts tweeted a 10 pt deficit has never been overcome in the SB. Interesting.
Wrong, the Saints trailed 10-0 in XLIV
Does Seattle sit on it now.
Man this defense is awesome to watch
Toyota wins the competition.
muppets take the lead in the commercials race.
I guess the game's over, because I saw Muppets.
Fun to watch
I just love this game so far. So happy to see Avril doing well too!
Skittles. This half is over. Thought Harvin might get a chance wide but no.
Surprised Denver isn't calling timeout.
Guessing Adam Gase should have interviewed for some of those jobs.
Man, they are just destroying this game.
*insert joke about Charissa Thompson's clam here*
A joke isn't what I'd insert.
Charissa > Erin Andrews
Side by side :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xw8o8UFDsVU
For her to wipe her nose like that.
Goodells going to cut the lights after Tate takes the second half kickoff to the crib.
Harvin is gonna get the kickoff not Tate. Seahawks should watch out for an onsides though. Denver needs a spark
So close. Right outcome wrong player
IMO college FB is just more fun to watch. Only 7 more months?
Newman and George look like they haven't aged a day since Seinfeld went off the air
Dude is getting after it on those drums
Surprised NFL agreed to this song. Guess you can sing about sex, but just not dress provocative.
For anyone interested in some sundry Denver stats, they have gained 123 yards on 42 plays, which is good for 2.93 yards per play. Further, all this has come despite a 17-23 performance from Manning, although not many passes have going for yardage typically found in a Manning performance. Seattle is outgaining the Bronco by nearly a 2:1 margin right now...
stop playing like your brother
the brother that won the superbowl couple years ago?
Best halftime concert since the Britney Spears/Aerosmith combo
I don't know... The Prince halftime show was pretty amazing imo. Covering Hendrix/Dylan, Foo Fighters, etc... Its the only haltfime show I remember (outside of wardrobe malfunction)
I was playing a drinking game where I drank everytime they said Peyton Manning. I'm pretty drunk now.
I don't there has been a worst combination of commercials and halftime show to go along with an only ok game that this year.
Game is way different than I thought it would be but that is a good thing. Go Seahawks!!!
So these halftime show planners thought "let's do a Bruno Mars medley, that would be great." Better yet, let's throw in the red hot chili peppers in the middle doing "give it away" and not have them play another song. Wtf.
fact. The first halftime show was University of Arizona Symphonic Marching Band & Grambling State University Marching Band
I am a little shocked that Seattle is able to do this well against Denver. At the same time, EVERYTHING seems to be going Seattle's way.
Everything? Did you miss the two fumbles Denver nearly lost or the replay call that could have went either way that went Denver's?
I loved the original Leon Sandcastle commercial
Bruno was solid.....guy has great talent.......also Jerry Ricecake
The U-M Marching Band performed at Super Bowl VII, 1/14/73.
Onside kick? Aw, boo!
In retrospect, that might have been better.
Do they need to?
he's still runnin
The game's not over.
But it's over.
Joe Buck: Good Kick...... and Percy Harvin is going to go!
And like *poof* any chance of a comeback is gone.
Congrats on getting destroyed on national television.
Peyton hasn't been great, but how about the entire team shitting the bed, not just Peyton.
than those with Brady.
Then that happened.
LOL.....so much fail Denver.
So I guess Harvin was worth the $13M for 1 game
This is why I never get hyped for any SB. This sucks
It official. We're watching for commercials now.
Wow WTF is with the Broncos tonight?
who would be the MVP?
Probably Harvin at this point... or just pick any one of 22 starters for Seattle.
Kam Chancellor would be my pick but it's mostly as team defense representative.
Who gets the MVP for Seattle?
They'll give it to Harvin and he deserves it both for his contributions in this game and his fortitude over the season.
Broncos laid a fat stanking egg tonight
The Seahawks were just that much better. The 49ers are the only team that even belong near the same class as them.
all were better all around teams than Seattle.
Seattle is a very good team, but these other teams could dominate on BOTH sides of the ball.
You are watching the Seahawks beat the highest scoring offense of all-time 36-0 as I write this and you don't think that's dominant? I'm not sure what to say to that. Seattle doesn't need to score 30 points a game when they are this good on special teams and D. Seattle's offense although its beleguered has been top ten all year long according to football outsiders FEI ratings.
I should mention though I wasn't talking about the Seahawks in terms of all time teams. I was merely stating that this year they were in a class by themselves.
Manning tears taste like Papa Johns.
Warm or cold?
What is Pam Oliver high on?
Out of her eyes. Sure was distracting.
Who dat to?
When Fox went for it on 4th, I was with him, but man looking back that was huge. The points would have done wonders for morale. Oh well, there's always neck year.... if the doctors allow him back.
You realize you said neck year not next year? ;)
Yeah it was intentional ;)
So in Super Bowl XXIV, 1/28/90, Denver lost 55-10 to SF. In Super Bowl XXII, 1/31/88, they lost 42-10 to Washington.
If only Woodson played for the Seattle defense - would be fitting.
Not exactly the most riveting game. So glad I'm not a Broncos fan.
Man Peyton is just slinging poo tonight.
Seeing as he ran off the field probably not.
hope he is able to come back. Love to watch the best of the best.
This is my least favorite Super Bowl of all time.
The broncos needed the ball back quickly. That's one way to do it
Percy Harvin is fast
Tebow's commercials are hilarious. Good job for the ad writer.
Another Tim Tebow commercial? Really?
TMobile has dont a fantastic job with the Tebow commercials....
Better hold on to those DONUTS
Denver realizes there is a football game today, right? I thought the worst ass-kicking I'd seen in a Super Bowl was SF over SD back in the 90s; this is going to be significantly worse.
So I guess you missed the blowouts Denver suffered before then.
I forgot about the 1990 game between SF and Denver. And maybe the score looked worse with other games, but I remember sitting at home and thinking that SF could have scored 60 if they had wanted to.
That was probably offensive PI.
For some reason I am enjoying Welker not producing....not sure why.
Punting from here down 29? Fake maybe?
Cam chancellor MVP ?
the 4th quarter?
Looked llike he was running that route. Definitely offensive PI.
Not sure I understand that 3rd & 4th down call.
What Denver really needs is some high quality H2O.
Give It Away Now: song performed during the halftime show or Denver's first half strategy?
Denver must have known that they were going torun the ball, right?
The Denver punt down 29 is definitely a 'Ron Zook Memorial Dumb Punt of the Week'
geez are you kidding me.
