Sunday Night Drinking/The Game 2011

Submitted by Blerg on

I'm currently between jobs. It's Sunday. I'm drinking. You're probably drinking, and the Maize and Blue take on the Buckeyes in the Big House from 2011 on the BTN.  What a terrific day that was...my last game as a student. The only victory I saw against OSU as an undergrad.  What you sippin' on?

I'm smoking some of the finest weed I've ever smoked, watching the hold steady play live from my couch (thanks youtube!) and thinking about cranking up the PS4 and playing some NBA2K14.  I'm also inbetween jobs, and life is fucking amazing right meow.

I am not sure if you are serious or not but I have considered eating some again to achieve the same things recently.  I ate some when I was younger and just enjoyed talking to sidewalks and throwing tennis balls back and forth with friends etc...  From what I have read, eating them would lead to a different experience now that I have some real world problems.

Water & Gatoraide.   I have a freaking Colonoscopy scheduled for tomorrow morning at 6:30am.  I've had to fast today and alll I've had is clear liiquids and earlier this afternoon I had to drink three liters of some God awful stuff that "clenses" me prior to the procedure.

Getting old truly sucks.

It's funny you mention this. My dad and some friends were discussing this at a BBQ Friday evening (riveting stuff).  Anyway, one mentioned he had never had one (65!) and my father said, he "likes to stay aware during the procedure, so the doc doesn't screw up."  This makes me question a lot about my father...

It was dulcolax and mirolax and more Gatorade than I want to remember for me four weeks ago. I felt like swallowing a marble or something, so the doctor could feel like he found a prize.

Hope all turns out well. It sucks, but crapping in a bag or dying of colon cancer sucks more.

I had an upper endoscopy a couple of years ago. They ran the IV and when the doctor came by she asked if I had any problems with that "cleansing" procedure. I was scared shitless (pun intended) but she realized she had the wrong chart (thank God).

Procedure was fine. Propyfol is awesome stuff. Went working from home 2 hours later. Would do it again.

It is actually the only time they have worn a normal uniform since '09. 2009 and '10 they wore throwbacks, and these past two years they've worn their pro-combats. I hate to say it, but there last two uniforms and helmets have been real sharp. It's what I would like to see Adidas do to Michigan uniforms if they are going to wear alternates. Keep the changes subtle yet improvements to the norm.

Ice water, and watching the NFL network. Steve Schilling looks to be 2nd team LG for Seattle. Seattle - Denver had a great first quarter and a half, regular season atmosphere. NFL is really calling interference and defensive holding tightly. If CFB does the same with that extra official at some point, bye-bye Sparty (and our own nascent) aggressive D.

Had a Sam Adams Boston Lager to cap off a great day on the water. Caught Bonita, Blue Runners, Yellowtail, 2 big Kings and about 30-40 Rainbow Runners. I'm absolutely gassed and ready for some shut eye. Tomorrow is going to suck.

I actually asked this on the boat. Not one person got the reference. Made for an awkward moment. When we were at the dock cleaning the fish, there were some huge snook and Crevalle Jack eating the heads. A guy with two little girls goes by in a kayak and says "Look honey, we should have brought our fishing pole." So of course I say "You're gonna need a bigger boat." Nothing. Jaws reference wasted. It's shark week fergodsakes! There were some really big bull sharks cruising by when we chummed too. Pretty cool day, just not for movie references. Tough crowd.

The best part of the 2011 game for me was that I finally had the chance to be told off in person by an emotional Ohio State fan sitting near me. After the Avery interception which closed the door, I turned to him, extended my hand and said, "Well fought, sir...", to which the reply was, "Fuck off". It had been a while since I felt that proud at that point.

As for drinking tonight, a nice bottle of Goats Do Roam tonight.

The best part of that game for me was a big chunk of my section took to hollering "cheaters!" every time OSU got flagged.  You could see how much it ground on the Buckeye fans each time it rained down.  That really seemed to hit them where it hurt most.  Fun stuff.

I was at the game, and never caught the B10 Network broadcast until now. Spielman AND Urbie Meyer contributing commentary on this? Good f'ing lord. I'm glad I was at the game in person.

Ah...that 2011 team was fun to watch. There WERE some nasty bumps along the way (argh MSU argh), but the three-game ending to that season was about as good as I can recall for UM football in...well...a LONG time.

I still can't believe they overturned that touchdown by Fitz at the end of the game. We should of won this game by more. Can't wait to beat those guys in Columbus!

Re-watching this game and the Nebraska game I can't help but think we have pieces this year that can achieve as much as the '11 team did.

On Defense we have seniors on the line like the '11 team did (no Martin level player yes, but much more depth). The linebackers are A LOT better. We trotted out a freshman Ryan and Morgan and Demens. Our 6 deep this year far exceeds that group. The secondary is also much better an deeper. A junior Blake and Senior Raymon along with Lewis, Stribbling and Peppers exceeds Floyd and a freshman Blake. Safety may be one position we aren't as proven at yet, but Wilson looked solid last year and I have faith in either Thomas, Hill, or even Peppers, stepping in and performing admirably.

On Offense we have a senior experienced QB. We have 3 sophomore running backs who could combined provide as many rushing yards as Denard/sophomore Fitz.. The biggest difference of course is in the O-Line. We do not by any means have a David Molk, and no one on line yet has shown to be as capable of a left tackle as even a sophomoe Lewan in '11. For some reason I have confidence that the line will do just fine this year (not world beaters, but not the disaster that we've seen the past two years.) On the outside I would say the '11 squad with Hemingay, Roundtree, Gallon, and Odoms trumps what we have right now, but Funchess really could be the best WR in the B1G, and there is a lot of buzz regarding a healthy Darboh and Canteen in the slot. Darboh's size could help have him have a Hemingway-like impact to the team, and lets not forget Chesson. Once Butt returns I think he is better than Koger was.

When you look at it like that, why can't this team win 10 games this year?

I'm surprised they showed the 2011 Nebraska game. BTN doesn't usually show blowouts. Not that I'm complaining. The feeling after that game, I wish I could bottle it. Always hated Nebraska so the win felt good but I was also confident for the first time IN YEARS going into the OSU game. The same feeling I had going into the game growing up when we beat them year after year after year...when the world was on its axis. It was such a better feeling than going into the game confident we would lose 45-6...like I felt last year. Being wrong about the final score was of little comfort in the end. God, now I need to punch something or drink something.

One of the highlights of that game tonight was introducing my wife to the panicked look/blown punt incident from Will Hagerup. We already knew the result of course, so it was 100% pure comedy as I showed her the GIF for good measure. Overall just a fun game to watch.

I was in a bar Friday and a guy told me, try an Anti-Hero and a Eugene Porter mixed together. I tried it, it's the best Black and Tan I've ever had.
