he's gonna have a heart attack
I really don't want State to win but they have to beat the refs along with IU, this is lopsided officiating at its worst.
I agree. State needs to lose but this has been some real home cooking by the refs.
Payne is 3-3 from 3 pt. range? Seriously?
and are getting penetration at will
I think I'm (we're?) rooting for IU here, right?
First of all, an MSU loss is never a bad thing.
Second, while I think IU is more of a threat to us, a road victory against any of the top teams is a big advantage in the Big Ten race. That's why our victory in Minn was big.
Third, it's fun to watch Izzo get angry.
hasn't gone full-on bobby knight crazy yet... he's a losing season away from chucking chairs
Yeah, rooting for IU because of all the reasons above, but man MSU is getting jobbed by the refs.
Big ten life on the road. I can't wait for tonight.
Not sure which team winning is better for us but I do think all four games against these teams are going to be battles. Absolutely essential for us to win our home games for us to have a chance to repeat as Big Ten champs.
This is absurd. It really is like a game of HORSE.
Not much defense on display today...
Also, you KNOW that Oladipo is gonna be able to leg-hump Trey Burke all day long at Assembly Hall and won't be called once.
Refs are horrible.
It's like tennis. Winning at home is holding serve. A big road win is like breaking a serve. An MSU win here would be a huge service break for them. So we need IU to win and apparently the refs have gotten that message as well because they are really lopsided in IU's favor.
Is finally paying off for Izzo, the refs have started to call some phantom fouls now
I'm not seeing the lopsided officiating that others are. Which call did you think was really bad?
I think both of the recent offensive fouls. Guess they offsetted each other.
Yeah that one on Zeller was very weak.
There was a blatant foul on Oladipo on lob pass inside and the ball went out of bounds off Victor and they gave it to IU...it was a double negative for state, it should have been a foul on IU and at worst MSU ball. This game has been about as lopsided as a sinking Titanic.
Well fouls are dead even, so I don't think it's been THAT lopsided.
I don't really have an opinion on the foul calling in the game, but just because that stat is even doesn't mean anything. There could have been a bunch of uncalled fouls on iu, etc. that would make the game considered to be poorly officiated despite the foul numbers being equal.
Possible, but unlikely. I agree that the number doesn't tell the whole story, but it's hard to conclude that it's extremely lopsided when the numbers are even. I didn't see many uncalled fouls on Indiana.
this one's getting ugly!
Turnovers galore. Indiana is sloppy.
Such a sloppy game for both teams. State has 40% of their points off turnovers!
20 steals between the two teams. That is embarassing.
and I've always hated how Ind gets the calls they do at home, it's a friggin' joke
The MLive beat writing for MSU hoops did a huge favor for all of us. (link: https://twitter.com/diamond83/status/295574478228946944/) Knock this one outta the park, gang.
His head is so far up his ass he can taste what he had for breakfast.
I see anatomy isn't your strong suit.
is over rated IMO, they're good, but not great, they get hype because they're Indiana
Agreed. Zeller is overrated. Oladipo is by far their best player.
Oladipo lighting it up today. Dakich is right. He is by far their best player.
Payne keeping State in it.
And that one hurts. See ya Keith.
This is a worrying, if not unexpected, output by MSU today.
Keep in mind they are shooting lights out from 3 and IU has 16 turnovers.
They are also doing this without their best player in Appling playing less than 20 minutes.
I would put Appling as their third best player behind Payne and Harris. He's been awful today even when he's in.
Appling is their closer so to speak, he's the guy that takes the big shots down the stretch, he hasn't been great today but he's the player you want to have the ball in the last 2 minutes.
But do you think they could play any better than this with him in there?
Agreed. It's going to be a brawl when we play them. Even in Ann Arbor beating MSU is going to be difficult.
Izzo's really getting his team to where it needs to be for March.
Izzo the last few years has taken a month or two to get the team really rolling; seems the same this year. On the other hand, IU is having no trouble scoring even with a ton of TOs which bodes well for us.
And they're probably in the "contender" category. Where I think Indiana is in that category, but maybe not world beaters. And with Indians being Indiana that probably means the home game might be a bit easier, but going down there is almost always impossible because you're playing the refs there more than anywhere else in the Big Ten. I think we gain more by MSU stinking because stealing one in E. Lansing is easier than Bloomington, where a not as strong as we thought Indiana team probably still gets us at home.
But we knew this was going to be a brutal race with 4-5 teams going to the wire.
MSU will play up or down to anyone. Tons of talent, not always disciplined. Can beat great teams or lose to crappy ones.
What's the chant? Something Tom Izzo?
He deserves it. He keeps walking onto the court (which is supposed to be a technical foul) and the refs allow it.
this indy-sparty game is fantastic.
"SIT DOWN IZZO!!"
that chant needs to be shamelessly jacked by the maize rage. i think the crimson guard would be okay with it.
