Sun Bowl Open Thread

Submitted by LSAClassOf2000 on

NOTE TO MODS: Because the Liberty and Fight Hunger Bowls are on at the same time, they will get one thread. I thought ahead here.

Anyway, this is for the the perhaps slightly more watchable Sun Bowl - Georgia Tech (8-4) versus Utah (7-5) live from El Paso.

Interestingly enough, this is a rematch of the 2005 Emerald Bowl, which was a one-sided blowout by Utah, as I recall. I took Georgia Tech in this one, so hopefully history does not repeat itself here.

down 2 o-line men, the b-back (sione houma's position), and a starting corner.

that being said PJ really needs to get this bowl streak ended.

I was thinking tied at 2-2 going into overtime. UCLA awesomes its way into a safety, Illinois kicks a field goal, and I get 1 point in my bowl pool.

Seriously, how the hell do you pick this game? I feel like Scheelhause and Mercilus are the best two players out there, so I went with them.

Ed: My scenario isn't possible for overtime...sorry.

Picture something like this sequence:

1st and 10 on the opponents' 25: Holding.

1st and 20 on the opponents' 35: Sack for loss of 15 yards.

2nd and 35 on the 50: Another holding call.

2nd and 45 on own 40: Sack and fumble. Ball is kicked toward the goal line while the offense and defense try to recover the ball. The offense recovers on the 2.

3rd and 83 on own 2: Sack in end zone for safety.

It's not terribly likely but it's not impossible

I saw something very like this in a high school game a few years ago (in regulation, though, not in OT). It was 1st and 10 at about the opposition 40, and after a couple of sacks and a holding call there was a shotgun snap way over the quarterback's head that wound up getting kicked and bobbled and swatted out the back of the endzone.

It'll probably happen someday, somewhere, probably at a low level of football though.

Any Niles West fans out there? I think that's where I was but I could be wrong....

The guys at solid verbal podcast renamed the game to the Kraft Fight Offense Bowl.  I think that might be on point considering the team that are playing.

I only watched the 4th quarter and the OT. That full back, Asiana played real good in that time - both, running the block, and creating blocks for White. I hope Houma develops into something similar at Michigan..
