Suitable hs grad gift?

Submitted by Canadian on
Gave my little brother a maize and blue Canadian flag signed by Nik Stauskas as a grad gift. He isn't as much of a fan as I am but couldn't resist pulling the trigger on an extra for him a few months ago when they were being sold.
What do you guys think? Even if it's something he takes out of town and just hangs above his dorm room bed he will atleast have a good story to share (with what I assume are ladies).

Yes good idea.  Small flat screen tv is also nice.  When I graduated,  I got so many Cross brand pen and pencil sets.  I wondered back then even what the hell was I going to do with those, and the answer was nothing.

I thought about a tv but when the flags were on eBay (which I saw thanks to a post on here a while ago) and figured why not try and lure him into something as great as Michigan athletics. He's a fringe fan but I'm trying to win him over to be an uber fan so that when he's old enough we can go to games and drink

I recently got my sister a nice diploma frame her campus bookstore sold, but that's college. My HS diploma sits in a box which is probably true for a lot of people.

In general I try to go for a nicer version of something they use regularly than they're willing to buy for themselves. It's imaginative enough to require some actual thought, but the risk of completely flopping is low.

I think that is very thoughtful and he will think of the connection he has w you when he feels homesick. There are a lot of nice and expensive gifts that take less thought but I think this is better. Worst case get him a nice pair of headphones bc they are both fun and practical.

Cash, Cash, Beer, or Cash.... How is having a full time job relevant in your decision not to booze? SMH...

Also - dont get him a Leatherman multi-tool ...think about what YOU WANTED when you were 18.  Cash man - let him choose what he wants to spend it on.

If he isnt a fan Im not sure he is going to love it. I would love that gift but I am a huge fan.

I would go with a sign/plaque that says "you can never go home again."

I've always loved that saying.
