Sugar Bowl Pseudo Clowniforms
Mgouser MASChicago posted this in another thread.

We're wearing the away jerseys for the Sugar bowl... but no! Not our "normal" away jerseys. Not Last year's away jerseys that we wore for much of this year (trim piping). Not the bumblebee awful-forms from the Michigan State game.... but a combination of them!
I personally don't like the Block M on the left chest. Or the shoulder stripes. The undershirt-as-uniform sleeves is a trend that I've found very interesting recently... but I dunno if the Blue Sleeve is as good as if it were a white sleeve, maize outline of a blue M (modern analog to the Thomas picture below). What is it with adidas and making us have stripes? In general I'd say these are OK, nothing earth shattering, and for a change not bad.
Those are the replicas you can buy.

Precisely what I'm referring to. I'm a Lions fan and I still think the Bears have one of the bestest, classicest, and old-schoolest looks in all of football. Sometimes an old design never gets old. That's what the Bears have.
Except for when they wear these stupid things. Mmmm slobber slobber drool jersey sales drool drool. Fuck the fucker who thought of those. And they wore them against the Packers and Lions too - exactly when they ought to be looking their best and old-schoolest.

The Lions' most major uniform fuck up came when they were acquired by Bill Ford, and abandoned what are now the throwback unis they wore as NFL champions in the 50s. Then again, the whole Bill Ford era has been a suck-fest with few exceptions.

Bengals going from bland to stripes? Falcons going black? Rams, Chargers, Bucs, Eagles changing colors? Pretty much everybody has messed with their uniforms except the Browns, Colts, Packers and Bears. And the Raiders, I guess.

hey------i've written two worthwhile things in seven years ["the number one michigan site in the central asian steppe"]------pretty sweet batting average, i think

Out of all the changes to the uniforms this year, the only one I like is the numbers on the helmet. And that shocks me. But it's how I feel.
These UTL-inspired jerseys are awful. If we lose the Sugar Bowl game, that would be 2 of our 3 games in them lost. Aka never again.
December 13th, 2011 at 1:57 PM ^
Shit, we better change our regular jerseys then. We compiled 309 losses in non-UTL inspired ones.
December 13th, 2011 at 2:11 PM ^
Didn't even think about that. Oh my god, someone get David Brandon on the phone.
December 13th, 2011 at 1:54 PM ^
Have we ever worn a maize jersey? Though my initial reaction is revulsion, the all-maize look is my favorite basketball uni, so why not try it out? Couldn't possibly be worse than the trash tornado abomination.
December 13th, 2011 at 2:34 PM ^
NO. If we ever wear an all-maize jersey for a football game... well, I don't know what I'll do. Probably turn off the TV and write DB an angry letter.
I mean, seriously?
December 13th, 2011 at 3:04 PM ^
But the exact inverse of our home uniforms would be interesting to try out. Helmet going unchanged, of course.
December 13th, 2011 at 4:05 PM ^
what are these? I think these are badass. although I do designing for a career... biased ?
December 13th, 2011 at 4:12 PM ^
Taking West Virginia's coach didn't really work out that well for us, but that doesn't mean we can't take their uniforms!
December 13th, 2011 at 5:04 PM ^
that nike pro combat is absolutley gorgeous, that might be the sickest jersey I have ever seen. being a younger person its all about flash and style in the new hipster era, and those jersey are just beautiful
December 13th, 2011 at 5:28 PM ^
WooooWeeee! It looks like Michael Bay took some acid then asked that elephant that paints with it's trunk to help him design that! Just like Transformers (not the first one), it's so bright and flashy I didn't even notice it looks like crap!
December 13th, 2011 at 4:44 PM ^
A game photo... in a jersey thread... with a picture of Oregon... where they weren't the offenders.
I see what you did there. Well played, Moleskyn.
December 13th, 2011 at 1:55 PM ^
I'm fine with change on the road jerseys but as JeepinBen mentioned, we've had 3 different road designs (Sugar Bowl, MSU and the techFIT aways without the piping) this year. Can't adidas just design and pick a road jersey going forward?
December 13th, 2011 at 1:58 PM ^
I think the key thing is finding one that people actually approve of. These actually look really sweet and while there are some mild complaints, there seems to be a solid appreciation for them unlike the horror that was the bumblebee Michigan State game jerseys.
December 13th, 2011 at 2:02 PM ^
Could very well be. Another thing that bugs the hell out of me (OCD a bit) is the fact 1/2-3/4 of our guys wear the 2010 model adidas jersey (tradionally the more loose fit) while 1/4-1/2 of our guys wear the techFIT style. It looks embarrassing and sloppy.
December 13th, 2011 at 3:05 PM ^
It's ridiculous, really. We're a "title sponsor team" (or w/e Adidas said that put us on the same level as ND as a customer) and we can't even get a uniform uniform from Adidas. I don't see this issue with Nebraska, Wisconsin, Texas A&M, UCLA, or Notre Dame. Just us.
December 13th, 2011 at 1:56 PM ^
Definitely like. Certainly better than the away bumblebeez. Maybe even more than the regular aways...which I've always found a bit weak.
December 13th, 2011 at 1:56 PM ^
I like these unis a lot, but they're already out of stock? Has anyone purchased this jersey?
December 13th, 2011 at 1:57 PM ^
The block M and the stripes are cool. Swith up the away jerseys, but let's pick ONE for next year. Just don't touch the home uniform!
December 13th, 2011 at 1:58 PM ^
Preface: I am very much a "Get off my lawn with your modern clowni-forms, your newfangled spread offense, your piped in music, your consideration of moving The Game to anything but the last weekend in November and your silly Welcome to the Big House" fan. MOAR tradition please is my motto.
I initially hated the UTL jerseys until about mid-way through the first half, and then they grew on my. Now I love 'em. (By contrast, the MSU jerseys should be recalled and collected in mass, taken to East Lansing, put into a pile in the shape of a huge couch and burned).
I must admit - these are some damn nice away jerseys. I would be ok with these as our permanent away jerseys.
Note: please leave the home jerseys alone and be careful not to step on my lawn next time.

is full of win (+1 to you)

the road whites are subject to tweaking. That said it's a money grab for sure.
December 13th, 2011 at 2:05 PM ^
aren't there usually "normal" jerseys for sale with bowl patches? I feel like this money grab has been in the system a while
December 13th, 2011 at 2:01 PM ^
Yuck. These are always awful. Sweet sleeves, bro.
December 13th, 2011 at 7:55 PM ^
now drop the block M from the jersey and I think you have the winner!
December 13th, 2011 at 2:01 PM ^
As long as they find a jersey that both fits Touissaint so that he's not dragged down by his jersey three times in the game (old Addidas) or doesn't choke him out (Techfit), then put whatever combination of maize, blue, and white you want on it.
December 13th, 2011 at 2:02 PM ^
Why can't we just wear our normal road jerseys? I don't like all this new stuff!
December 13th, 2011 at 2:07 PM ^
The logo on the side of the helmet has to be a joke, right? Right?
December 13th, 2011 at 2:15 PM ^
They didn't actually wear that helmet but that is their old logo.
December 13th, 2011 at 2:48 PM ^
They did wear that helmet, both in the 70s and as a recent throwback. Tech has become throwback city these days. New helmet every week.
December 13th, 2011 at 2:43 PM ^
The logo and the helmet itself. That thing couldn't fit on BeetleJuice (Stern not Keaton).
December 13th, 2011 at 2:05 PM ^
I actually like these better than our normal road uniforms, hope we keep them for next season.
December 13th, 2011 at 2:07 PM ^
Must every team have a different jersey for every game? When I was a kid my team only had one jersey, and we wore it every day, and we were beaten for wearing it, and that made us happy.
December 13th, 2011 at 2:11 PM ^
The old unis were not broken, but DB insists on fixing them. I ain't buying any of it.
December 13th, 2011 at 2:58 PM ^
I agree that we've had too many changes this year on the uniform front, but did you see what was happening to those TechFit jerseys? We definitely needed a change from those and not back to the 2009-2010 jerseys with that godawful piping.
December 13th, 2011 at 2:14 PM ^
How many uniforms are we going to wear this year? Do we even have a uniform or do we just break out some new maize-and-blue-themed covering for each game?
December 13th, 2011 at 2:15 PM ^
Would be nicer if they didn't have the maize outline around the numbers.
December 13th, 2011 at 2:16 PM ^
Me like.
December 13th, 2011 at 2:17 PM ^
with plain old winged helmets or winged helmets with numbers on them? Can't tell that from the picture.
This is Retailing 101. Always have something new to put on the shelf so shoppers keep coming back and buying more. Keep that cash register ringing. Generates $$ for the athletic dept. I think Brandon must be going for #1 college brand in terms of $$ volume this year, if we aren't there already. Just glad my student daughter is not trying to buy the entire 2011 Michigan uniform collection. Hmmm....I see another product packaging opportunity there.
The unis are fine. Much better than the angry bumblebee unis. About as many M's on them as BMW has roundels on their cars and that's hard to top.
December 13th, 2011 at 2:21 PM ^
I actually think they look great.
December 13th, 2011 at 2:21 PM ^
Smooth.
