Student Ticket Validation Question
Hello!
I just have a quick question.
I am desperately trying to get tickets for Saturday and i found quite a few student tickets on Craigslist. I was wondering if non-UM students can still pay 25$ to get their ticket validated? any info would be greatly appreciated!

ticket for last years opener against utah and i never got it validated and still got in. My 55 yr old dad had a non validated student ticket and got in i dont think its a big deal.

what gate did you go into? when i was a student they were anal about the student id. has this changed recently then?

I've been asked for my Mcard about 50% of the time. Depends on the guy at the gate I guess, but try different entrances. Still a rule but I think they forget sometimes or just don't care

I've had to show my Mcard. I would just pay the money or buy a normal ticket. The whole point of the "validation" is to bring the price of the ticket back up to the normal cost of a general admission ticket - therefore making it not worth it unless you want to sit in the student section.

I've never seen anyone get in without a student ID before with a student ticket. Pay the 25 bucks!

Note: they changed the validation prices this year -- ND and OSU tickets are $40 to validate, the rest of the games are still $25.
I've never heard of anyone using an unvalidated ticket before this thread. And I have heard of people being cited by DPS for trying to use others' MCards to get in to the game, although I know plenty of people that used younger siblings' IDs to get in successfully.

thanks so much, that is exactly the kind of info i wanted. i was willing to pay 25$ to get it validated; and although i don't go to UM i AM a college student, which means i'm too broke to drop 80-100$ on a scalped public ticket.
i guess i could go to MY school's (Ferris State) football game and watch UM on TV but UGGGGGHhhhhhhhhhhhh...........

My understanding is that this can be done at the Michigan Union Ticket Office tomorrow from 9-1, but for the ND game (and other big games) it costs $40, not $25. I've never done this before though and will also be attempting it tomorrow, so if anyone knows better please chime in.
One thing that isn't clear to me is whether a student with ID needs to be present at the ticket office to get the stamp?

I've validated tickets twice this year already, and haven't had to show a student ID either time. I've done it on NC at the credit union, though, so their policies may be different from doing it on central on gameday.
Not that it should be hard to find a student at the union willing to help you out...

Can't believe DPS is getting involved. My Mcard has long since liberated, but I've been able to use some friends' cards from grad school.
Also note that the tickets (at least from 2 years ago) say 'valid Student ID' but do not specify UM student ID. I tried arguing this point using my UC Berkeley ID, but to no avail FWIW.

Normal ticket. I won't know for sure till tomarrow morning. I'll be in line at AAGO at 7:30 with a sign if I got one.

DPS kicked me out of the NW game last year for passing my MCard back thru the gate to a friend who was visiting from out of town, so I thought they had possibly adopted a tougher policy.
But then again, last week I was not even asked for my MCard as I walked into the game.
Also, I believe that an MCard is needed to validate a ticket as well, but I could be wrong.

You have a 50/50 shot of getting in without having to show an M-Card. If you move quickly through the line and keep moving after you give the ticket person your ticket, they are less likely to ask you for your M-Card.

I went to every game last year and made a point to not have my Mcard out to see what they would do. (I had it ready as not to hold up the line). Most of the time they asked me for it, but I would put my thumb over the picture. I was never stopped so they could get a look at it.
As MGB22 said, it really depends. If I were you, I'd just get it validated so I wouldn't have to worry about it. But if you have friends or friends of friends not going, you could try their Mcards.
They have gotten stricter. My freshman and sophomore year we would easily pass back Mcards, although I never heard of anyone getting harassed by DPS.

or something really really pitiably cute if you want to get in w/o a validation. I had a student give me 3 tickets a couple years' back and took two eager but diminutive 12-year-old boys with me not realizing they had to be validated. We were turned away at the gate, but at Will Call the prospect of two tearful (or prospectively tearful) boys produced the required golden stickers. They made like Puss in Boots in the Shreck movies and batted their eyes at the lady in the booth. So unless you are cute like Antonio Banderas I don't think I would recommend this tactic to you.
This was AGIN the rules, because the rules say a) no validation stickers on game day and b) only students get buy stickers.
On subsequent occasions when I acquired unvalidated students tickets I realized that ANY student would do so I prevailed on a gradstudent friend to walk over to the Union the day before the game with my money in his fist to assure validation. Worked like a charm.

It depends on what gate you go in, when you go in it, and how much of a stickler the gate person is. Ive been asked for my ID every time the last couple years but I know if you go in the gate by Pioneer or Chrysler they aren't as strict. I guess you can always try to do it not validated then validate it at the game if it is an issue
