Student Ticket Question

Submitted by go16blue on

I am going to take a class at UM next year, and as part of that I am going to get a UM student ID. This will allow me to get into any game in the student section, so long as I have student tickets. I'm planning on asking a student to buy some for me, but I need to know a few things first.

1. When do student tickets become available?

and

2. When do student tickets sell out?

Specifically, I think it would be amazing to have my first game in the student section be the first night game in UM history vs ND. Is this possible, or just a pipe dream?

Thanks for any advice

Well, current students have already bought their tickets, though they haven't been mailed yet.  I'm not sure what the deadline is for incoming students.  Otherwise, if you can't find student "season" tickets, you can usually get student tickets on a game-by-game basis fairly cheaply (ND and OSU being the obvious exceptions, and maybe Nebraska this year).  I mean, you can definitely get a ticket to the ND game, the question is how much are you willing to pay for it?

I would contact the ticket office tomorrow.  They will put you in the right direction for getting your student tickets.  Go Blue and congrats!!

New student tickets are on sale now, but you have to be a full-time student to get tickets. However, there's a secondary market and a lot of kids who have no idea what they'll miss out on. Prey on their ignorance.

Just went on sale Monday and the deadline is the 25th(I believe). Unless you know someone it will be tough to get that all figured out so quick. I would just buy them game by game and you won't need to pay for them to be validated

I am a Rackham student and dont have the time to take 2 classes so I am out of student ticket market.  The requirement for grads is 4 credits and my program is only 3 credit classes.

I spoke with ticket office and my advisor and they both said that tickets will be "turned off" if a student doesnt meet the requirements.

With the continuous enrollment policy (is that in effect yet?), you should be enrolled in credits for something candidacy- or dissertation-related (if you're a PhD student who's past coursework). My department also has a filler course that you can sign up for if you need free credits. It's probably too late now, but you should be able talk to the office staff in your department if you are in a real program, as they should be able to hook you up with enough credits in the future.

it would probably be worth it to go for season tickets. Tickets to the Notre Dame game, the Nebraska game, and the OSU game are not going to last very long at all. If you buy them game by game you'll definitely end up paying more than you would for a season ticket package. Part-time students are allowed to buy season tickets but you have to be registered for at least 6 credit hours, which wouldn't apply to you if you're only taking one class. You could have an incoming freshman who isn't planning on buying tickets buy them for you. You're not exactly allowed to do this, but I do know plenty of non-students with M-Cards who have gone this route. Of course, you'd have to find someone before the new student deadline passes, which is usually sometime around the end of June. Good luck!

I could be wrong on this but I don't think you can buy individual student tickets through michigan and as a student I know most of us are smart enough that a student ticket for the ND game isn't gonna be any cheaper than a random ticket on stubhub or something.

As someone who saw dozens of people give up OSU tickets in 2003 for $25, come 4 or 5 pm on the day of the ND game there will be hundreds of blacked out freshman and other alcoholics who thought they had the stamina to drink from 7am - 7pm. These people will give up tickets for a burrito and a case of Milwaukee's Best when they're that drunk.  Unfortunately, you may have to wade into the glorious drunkenness of fraternity preparties, Oakland, Greenwood, etc to find these drunks.

I think as long as you have an ID you'll be straight if you just buy tickets off of kids.  I just graduated and before I did I got my student ID renewed so it doesn't expire til like 2016.  They're not hard on student IDs as long as they're not expired and the gender/race generally match.  He'll even then you might get away with it.
