Student Season Tickets

Submitted by Mr. Robot on
The Athletic Department has released the application. You can buy hockey tickets at the same time this year. They also officially hate student hockey season ticket holders, as we are confirmed to be getting the shaft on seating for The Big Chill now. Hockey ticket prices have also gone up, now more than football...

i am really starting to get peeved at the michigan ticket office. Tickets are starting to be priced out of the budgets for students. Marty Bodnar has been a major annoyance since I have been a student.

UM tickets are way more than tickets at other schools with the exception of Ohio State, where they pay higher per game but get fewer games in their package (extra games can be added on). However, what we do get is access to every game for everyone. Most schools will offer student full season packages, but only to students who win a lottery. Other schools guarantee tickets to everyone, but only in half season packages. We are pretty much the only state school/power program who offers season tickets to every student every year. We have to pay for our guarantees.

However, the price of student tickets outpaces the rate of inflation. I understand the privilege of open access to tickets should come at a price. However, the price increase should be with inflation. We are not the only university with open access. My undergrad Purdue has open access to students who buy football tickets before a certain deadline then it is a lottery thereafter. I wouldn't mind going to this system...

But that's not unlimited access. There is a cap on the number of student tickets, and freshmen are pretty much shut out from getting them under that system. There's no other state school with a quality program like ours provides access like we do. Everyone gets a ticket here, with no limits. No one who pays is turned away. That's what we pay for.

It is unlimited. Actually compared to our system it has more access. At Michigan if you cannot buy by the deadline set then you are SOL. Purdue on the other hand gives students a second chance. You are guaranteed a ticket by the deadline. However, they will give out any extras after the deadline if you enter the lottery. There's no other state school with a quality program like ours provides access like we do. Everyone gets a ticket here, with no limits. No one who pays is turned away. That's what we pay for >>>That is complete bullcrap. There are many schools that provide tickets for free. Many private universities such as Miami (FL) provide students with free tickets. We are also paying too much as the price increases are outpacing inflation. I am getting to the limit where I cannot afford to buy tickets. Actually, due to the price increases access is actually being diminished.

I'm cool with the fact that they want to sell hockey tickets with football tickets. I'm sure its easier on them, and really it IS more convenient, but I would REALLY have liked it if I had known this change was coming. I was not prepared to have to pay for hockey tickets at the same time, but I translated the part about being able to buy tickets in the fall that are left as "LOL, you're going to get stuck in Section 8 again", so I sucked it up and did it...

...though my guess is they're trying to avoid looking like we're covering up current shortcomings with not-as-current greatness. But I also think the decision to re-emphasize the schedule (a list rather than a scrunched paragraph like last year) shows slightly more confidence that there won't be a majority of L's.

I'm really disappointed in the student hockey season ticket holder seating for the Big Chill; disappointed enough to write an angry email, which I will do everyone the favor of not sharing.
