The Dispatch has learned that, barring a late complication, Storm Klein has been reinstated to the Ohio State football team.

In case anyone is interested.

All charges have been dropped, except for disorderly conduct.

The victim, the mother of Storm Klein's baby, has actually recanted her story and said he never actually hit her. Storm Klein own account was that he placed her in a "bear-like hug" to prevent her from breaking things in his apartment, and during the struggle she received some minor injuries.

Urban has spoken to both families involved and both requested that the situation be re-evaluated and to consider letting him back on the team.

Storm Klein has already missed a large portion of both the offseason conditioning and fall practice, so chances that he'll even be the first LB off the bench are slim. If anything Klein will most likely be serving on the kickoff coverage team. Klein will also be suspended at minimum two games, possibly three.

I'm betting it really happened and the girlfriend is covering so he can get his degree and hopefully a NFL paycheck.   Urban probably knows it's a farce, but could care less, he now has more depth.

Really almost any scenario is possible right now since the full court transcript hasn't been released. Nor do I know if they will be.

The rumor I'm hearing as to why the charges were dismissed is partly because Storm actually called the cops beforehand and asked for advice on how to legally remove his girlfriend without getting in trouble. I have no idea if that is true, but if it is then it certainly wouldn't hurt Klein's claim to innocence.

Jason Klein and the Rev. Russ Hylton are calling for less government intervention when it comes to disciplining children.

Discipline should be left up to parents, they say.

A jury in Licking County Municipal Court found Klein innocent of a domestic violence charge on May 9.  The first-degree misdemeanor charge followed an incident on Nov.21, when Klein spanked his son, Storm Klein, then 13, with a wooden paddle.

Jason Klein, 36, of Newark, said he spanked his son because he found out he was drinking alcohol.  He claims the spanking was a disciplinary measure, and government shouldn’t be allowed to tell parents how to raise their children.

Doubt this was any ordinary spanking to get the authorities involved in the first place.

This is one of the things that is maddening about Ohio State, especially compared to Ann Arbor.  In many college towns, including Ann Arbor, police seem to make it a point of pride to arrest athletes for the equivalent of spitting on the sidewalk.

In Ohio, though, Buckeye athletes get breaks like this all of the time.  Pleading domestic violence down to disorderly conduct is a very politically correct way to pave the road for Storm Klein's reinstatement without any pressure to kick him back off of the team.

I guess it's encouraging, though: disorderly conducct is certainly more than two of Sparty's starting five basketball players for last year and this year got in the Wonders Hall Cover-up.  It's nice to see that the Columbus police are so greatly concerned about making their campus safe for the female half of the population.

Cicero won't (and shouldn't) have his license for much longer.  Between his breach of client confidentiality and his brilliant decision to forge an assistant prosecutor's signature on a plea agreement, he'll be lucky if he only gets an indefinite suspension and not outright disbarred.

Meyer actually kicked Klein off the team, while Hoke suspends pending legal resolution.

BTW, IMO Meyer's disciplinary approach can not really be measuered this year, since Ohio can not go to a bowl game and hence not much expectation.  He can be as strick as he wants.

We will know a lot more about it next year when there is something to play for.
