I assume he would have to enroll at a graduate program at EMU? This would definitely be a good situation for him to finish his career and get a shot in the NFL.

I'd think you could work something out with your probation officer or the courts.  If you are moving to improve your life and/or moving out of a bad situation, they might see it as a positive (though I doubt another court system would want to have to deal with another person on probation).  I'd think it would be in his best interest to get away from AA, obviously he's had problems with maturity/alcohol, and being so far from home certainly doesn't seem to have helped the situation.  Probably better for him to just try to start with a blank slate somewhere else and avoid whatever problems he was having in Michigan.

EDIT: Obviously the guy below me is thinking the exact opposite way... doesn't seem like the "support system" helped for the first few offenses, and I doubt he could stay in contact with the coaching staff at UM, nor would EMU want him to.

It strikes me as a good sign for him in terms of his ongoing treatment and recovery. He'd be staying near his support system. No need to make drastic changes right now.

He could tear up the MAC and get drafted.  Would help our friendly neighbors to the east as well.  Also can keep some of his support network from Ann Arbor. Hope it works out.

Stonum isn't playing in the NFL, he's just not good enough.  EMU isn't exactly the best place for a recevier to having a spectacular season either (or at least going by this past season's results).  They rarely pass and don't do it very well anyway.

ease in which a tryout can be arranged. I went with the "big" money because anyone who says Stonum isn't "good enough" either knows little about football or is just being a douche for doucheyness' sake.

Eric Page begs to differ on being the best WR in the MAC. Maybe the best prospect at receiver for the NFL, but Page is a great talent at Toledo.

Other than that, i agree. It would be a good move for Stonum.

I would think that he would want to get as far away from A2 as possible.  No doubt the Ypsi police have heard about him by now.

What's EMU roster's wardrobe like?  If he's gonna up their fly quotient I'm doubly for it.

But seriously, and selfishly, I'd love it if he were right down the road--easier to follow the remainder of his college career, which I hope is very successful.

Don't follow EMU at all, but if last year's game against us is any indication (when they threw the ball about 3 times all game) I don't see why a WR auditioning for NFL teams would want to go there.  I'm hoping he ends up at a place where he gets an opportunity to catch the ball a little more.  With his size and speed going up against lesser competition I think we'd see a whole lot of highlight reel plays.

The EMU games against Michigan and Penn State were by no means a good yardstick for EMU last season.  I didn't see the Penn State game but I did see the Michigan game (it was almost like I was on the field or something) and that game was not typical of the season.

That being said, I'm not sure how many chances he's going to have to make highlight reel type catches since EMU as it currently stands is a running offense.  I think Gillett is a good quarterback but the offense is more suited to EMU's running game.  But Stonum in that offense might add a nice wrinkle as he would provide someone other than the Tight Ends that can catch.

These guys liked English, he was a father figure to many of the guys during his years. Also, Stonum has a place, a girlfriend and a life in Ann Arbor. Going to EMU allows him to keep all of that.

I think this would be a great move for DS. I think he'd still be around the UofM campus, I know he LOVES Michigan.

Don't be surprised if he's working out with Barwis and former Michigan players after the season too.

The ONLY thing that scares me is that the standards at EMU and the standards at Michigan are not even close to the same. I hope he's truly rehibilitated because there will be temptation all over. With that said, there is temptation on any college campus. And while there may be more at Michigan/EMU where he's familiar with everything --- there is likely also way more support.

Assuming he goes to Eastern.. does he have to sit a year first?  IF not, please explain why. Thanks.

Do you mean academically? Well, yes they are not. But from the content I think you mean something else and I don't know why you would question English's integrity. His program is very clean and strict. Do recall he coached for the same guy as Hoke did at Michigan. He also has several former UM players on his staff, including Mike Hart. I don't think Hart would coach for a guy who  is founding lacking in principles.

I wouldn't mind seeing a lot of Michigan transfers go over and give Ron English a few more players who could help him turn EMU into a program that routinely wins more games than it loses.

He'll dominate in the MAC if he has a decent QB to play with. I wish him nothing but the best of luck.
