Stills and Jefferson

I am not saying that the Stoops to ND thing is going to happen but there are people out there including ESPN that think that there is a plan in place now to make it happen. If for some reason Oklahoma is without its coach I think that UM becomes a real possibility for Kenny Stills and Tony Jefferson. It has been reported many times that they have a great desire to play together and Jefferson would be a lock for USC but they have not offered Stills and do not look like they will at this point. Oklahoma is the front runner for their commitments at this point but we will see how this plays out. Keep in mind the Jefferson is an early enrollee so this should play out pretty quickly. So raise your glasses to Stoops at ND and a 5* Safety and a 4* Receiver at UM. Of course if this happened someone is going to have to "De-Commit" to make room. Anyone want a couple of kids from the bottom of Michigan"s stack?

Any coach that beat out Michigan for a recruit could leave their job and put Michigan back onto the radar for the said recruit. For instance, if Dantonio left MSU, maybe we could get Gholst...never mind. On a serious note, this kind of speculation is pointless unless there is an actual chance in hell that a coach who beat us out for a recruit would go to Notre Dame. For instance, we could pick up Torrian Wilson if Harbaugh winds up leaving for Notre Dame, should Notre Dame decide that Brian Kelly isn't compatible with the Notre Dame culture (pray this is the case).

When you've got something working (like Stoops does at OU), I don't see why you would take a team that's struggled just to get back to where you already are. ESPN did compiled a numerical Prestige Rankings index last January and deemed OU #1 versus #4 for ND*. (Mich was #8.) Unless there is a roots connection (which there isn't w/ Stoops), I just don't see why a coach would set himself back and uproot for a lateral move. *I don't mean to convey that I believe the "signifant ordinal/ballpark" of #1 is better than #4, but rather that the ballpark of #4 (ND) is not significantly different than the ballpark of #1 (OU).

Is that Mike Valenti posting? That argument is driving me crazy, and only comes from people who follow teams that don't have a history. 100 years of the kind of history that teams like ND and Michigan have are not undone with even multiple years of mediocrity. If a coach could put together a couple of national contending teams at ND or Michigan, they would have the world by the balls. Hundreds of thousands of arrogant, football focused alumni, national fan bases, TV and merchandising pull, and the educational reputation to appease worried mothers. Fans of teams like MSU, Boise State, TCU, etc. are loving seeing teams like UofM and ND struggle because they think that they are suddenly going to be on the same level. Michigan has two losing seasons in 50 years and all of a sudden MSU owns the state, right? That is dillusional. ND is still a destination job, and if a coach puts together some winning seasons they will be immediately back in the top 5-10 teams year in and year out. I feel the same way about Michigan. If RR puts 9-10 wins on the board next year (I know that is a stretch, but allow me to imagine) we would be immediately high on a lot of big name recruits' boards. How many consecutive 9-10 win seasons has Boise State had? How many 5 star guys are on there board? Don't drink the sparty koolaide. ND is still a big time program not below Stoops, who, just a couple of years ago, was on the hotseat at OK.

He is NOT choosing Cinci over ND he is choosing a later better option over ND. Kelly is a guy who has his pick of upcoming jobs. Plus he likes to do things with NO outside interference trying to get him to run the program the way of tradition. ND only has its tradition left. I think you will see him wait for a Big12 or SEC job open up. I thought Hawkins at Colorado was going to get fired and Kelly would end up in Boulder.

A move from Oklahoma to Notre Dame is a lateral move. Oklahoma has just as much tradition as Notre Dame does, is willing to pay just as much money for a head coach, staff and facilities, and they actually have a current tradition of winning football games and making BCS bowls.

i'm not going to get into whether or not stoops leaves oklahoma...but if he does... i believe that we'd also be the front runner for brennan clay, anther cali boy/friend of tate's. if it's true that those two want to go to school together so badly, that certainly wouldn't hurt out cause.

I like the thought of getting those recruits. But personally stoops is one of the coaches I do not want to see go to ND, along with meyer and carrol (i know these two will never happen). Personally Im not scared of what Kelly brings to the table. We have been playing against a notre dame team that can score points for the past five years. What would Kelly add to that equation?

Brennan Clay would have to reconsider his commitment....which plays very well in our favor. Stoops to ND would work out very well for us. Brian Kelly to ND would not.

1. I don't think Notre Dame wants Kelly. How would his offense be any better than the one Notre Dame had for the last five years? They need a more balanced team, which is why they are going after Stoops. He has had great offenses and defenses. Even if they do not get Stoops, I have to think they want someone who gets it done on both sides of the ball. 2. If Stoops went to Notre Dame, sure these guys might be available, but they might also follow Stoops to Notre Dame. Stoops would have plenty of time to put together a monster recruiting class.

As Brian has already pointed out, Stoops won't leave OU because Notre Dame won't be able to push his salary/write a ridiculous contract well enough to lure him away. He has an insane guaranteed money contract from OU that doesn't end for 5 years. Notre Dame would have to probably give him $6 million a year, AND deal with paying off Weis as well. Same argument goes for Meyer. ND just can't afford to lure anybody away with a lateral move.

you'd have to be an idiot to argue that Bob Stoops going to Notre Dame and playing a schedule SOFTER thatn the Big 12 be a good thing at ALL. A man who's been to four BCS title games, worth it for ONE RUNNING BACK? Clay is not nearly worth the tradeoff of playing Stoops every year. And who says he wouldn't follow Stoops to ND? Are you serious? Stoops would give Michigan hell. I mean - have you seen Sam Bradford last year? Have you seen that hurry up go go go offense Rich Rod helped him implement? One BCS bowl (Fiesta 07, WVU vs OU) does not mean Stoops is not a threat. I am praying he stays right down there in Oklahoma. Which will probably happen.

Well if you listen to Lou Holtz, Notre Dame has billions of dollars to pay for coaches and money isn't an issue at all. Yes, he said billions with a b. Yes, he said it more than once.
