Still Have a Job to Do and that is to Win.

As a Michigan fan living in Columbus all the deuchebag news stations here in the city are talking about the investigation on all three networks. It pissed me off to a great extent and it’s still stinging knowing that this shit is going on with our program but regardless to these allegations we all have to remember there is still a mission in the works and that’s to have a winning season in 2010. It seems to me with all of this panicking going around that nobody is remembering that we haven't even started play yet! THE END OF MICHIGAN, THE END OF A PROGRAM, THE FALL OF THE WOLVERINE EMPIRE, seriously just shut the fuck up about this shit. It’s not the end of Michigan, or the program or the team hell it’s not the end of Rodriguez's coaching career. It hurts though I will agree with that but it’s the end? Hell no it isn’t, not even close. 2010 Is a year for our team's potential to shine on the field and turn this ship around and get it sailing back in the right direction and I have a good feeling that it will be here soon. This investigation is not going to distract our team from practicing and training for this coming season.

They all know they have a job to do come fall and they are going to work their asses off because that’s what this program has been about since its entry into college football. This school has prided itself in the fields of both academics and athletics and its long rich and winning history will always stand and no matter what outcome may come forth, Michigan will always stay the champions of the west. So let’s all just ignore this NCAA bull shit and get ready for this season because in the end these infractions (if you can even call them that) or allegations will disappear with each win we put on the board every Saturday. We can still be ranked in the top 25, compete for a Big Ten title and make a bowl because these accusations do not take away the skill and determination of this team and I can guarantee you come the first Saturday game of the season in the Big House all of this will just be dust in the wind in the shadows of 110,000 screaming fans who will be coming to see one thing and one thing only, Michigan football.

Stuck in Columbus.

...but let's hope the negative publicity (frankly, much ado about nothing) doesn't detrimentally affect recruiting.

I'm not terribly concerned unless the NCAA does something stupid like impose onerous sanctions against the program to set an example (just because they can). That will set me off.

They are going after us when we only manage a 5-7 overall record with a 1-7 Big Ten record. I hate to say it but when somebody on the previous board said all that time practicing wasn't spent practicing they were right and you have to agree! I just don't understand this and I hope they go after more than just us including schools like Boise, OSU, and I know Florida isn't clean either.

The NCAA is like a pack of wild dogs; they go after programs when they are the most vulnerable. That is why I believe the USC things are finally being done now; the program is at its weakest point in the last ten years.

Winning will take care of most of this. I just wish OSU and MSU would be subject to the same scrutiny as UM. They are doing so much wrong at those schools, but seem to have no consequences for their actions, while UM is being arrested for spitting on the sidewalk.

The NCAA needs to enforce equally and investigate equally.

I'd have to say this hurts RR more than it does the University as a whole. I think most people, on average, don't hate UM - but there are lot of people out there, for whatever reason, that hate RR or just find reasons to hate him.

In Columbus, they hate us. On the pages of Freep.com, they hate us. In East Lansing, they hate us. In Madison and in West Lafayette, they hate us.

They hate us, in the editorial offices of the Detroit Free Press. Some of those editors and staffers are alums. But Michigan-hate is now their business model.

If people want to now judge Rich Rodriguez solely on whether the team wins or loses in 2010, I think that's totally wrong, but so be it. It would, in that instance (not one that I like, but the scenario that people seem to want to impose) be enjoyable for me if Michigan's football team came out and won, as a bunch of swaggering Central Florida punks. That's NOT my general idea of Michigan, but if that's what others demand, I think it would be hilarious to see how a 10-2 or 11-1 chippy, ass-busting Michigan team would be treated. Not universally well, is my guess.

I have a depressing thought... for better or worse, the fate of Univ of Michigan (in all aspects - academics, athletics, reputation..) is in some way tied to the fate of the largest Metro area (Detroit), the state we are in (Michigan) and the region we are in (Midwest) and none of them are doing too well.

We can fight the tide for some time because our reputation and strengths can counter the downward pressure for the time being - but if things do not improve then its only a matter of time before we start getting dragged down.

Lets hope for the Metro Detroit to be better managed, Michigan to get its economy back on track and Midwest coming out of the slump it is in. Midwest Renaissance... where art thou?

PS> All in all I am in great mood today - Sachin Tendulkar made the first double century in One Day International Cricket today. He is my favorite sportsperson for 20 years and he been is very best in last 12 months with 10 international centuries.
