Get really surprised during recruiting where I assume all prospects have Michigan in front. When they don't pick Michigan, I become really surprised which, in turn, causes me to become startled and outraged.

Why does everybody keep pretending like Stevie Brown was some terrible player here?  He was really good as a senior after making the linebacker switch, and would have had another solid year if his redshirt hadn't been wasted.

Basically he struggled playing safety as a true sophomore when seeing the field for the first time, like probably a lot of guys would/do.

Acting like one coaching staff playing an underclassman or another that actually got good results out of a player are to blame for the guy not being awesome is just unfair.  Especially when the "he's awesome" is kind of based on a run of forcing turnovers that probably isn't sustainable for any player.

The extra year is also huge.  If David Harris had graduated in four years (without ever making an all-conference team) and had the NFL career he's had (actually super awesome for an extended period of time) people would be bitching about his coaching/development here at MIchigan like crazy but it wouldn't be any more fair.  On the flip side, BWC or even a guy like Gabe Watson or Mike Martin look a whole lot better as college players with another year.

Another reason could simply be the NFL being more "old school" football. Sure, better players but you don't play the kind of offenses you do in college. I will admit multiple UM staffs/coaches hurt a players potential/development because I know some kids were flat out put in poor positions over the years. Yet, as long as the physical tools are there, the NFL usually, eventually, can show that certain players we thought were terrible were just hindered by the college play style or coaching. I think more than coaching, Brown had issues against the spread based on what I saw. Decision making seemed to be an issue on top of potential and then absolute horrid coaching.

Some of Stevie Brown's stats in 13 games this year:

- 61 tackles total (51 plus 10 assisted)

- 2 forced  fumbles and 2 recovered fumbles for nine yards

- seven INTs for 256 yards, with a long of 70 yards and an average of 37 yards per INT.

- 8 defended passes

That's an incredible jump after his stops in Oakland and Indianapolis.

In my view, coaching failed Stevie Brown in his tine at Michigan, aside from his senior year. It's pretty clear that NFL coaching and playing style has helped him grow as a player. We are allowed to debate it.

It is good to see a GERG protege have some success on the field.   ;) JK.  Stevie was always a very good athlete...IMO he just got caught up in some uneven coaching changes in his career.  Had he been on today's UM roster, he would more than likely be starting next to Kovacs.  Ive watched him play several times for the Giants....it is no fluke...he literally is all over the field making plays.  Its great to see.

I picked him up in my fantasy team last week and he made me win the game.  ONTO the playoffs I go all thanks to one....Stevie Brown.

Here's hoping for a bright future. This team does try hard and I will continue to support them.
