Steve Lorenz on Taco: I think he "will be fine" after next week

Submitted by Bambi on

I know some people may fine this redundant, and it may have been posted in a different injury thread, but this seems to be something fairly substantive and newer than what we've already heard.

247 posted an article about Taco Charlton's tweeting "I'll be back" in reference to his injury (link). In the comments, Lorenz says the following:

"My belief: Charlton will not play next week as a precautionary measure but will be fine after that.

I did not get the impression that Harbaugh was worried about him during his presser yesterday."

Some people may not care and say it's just conjecturing by Lorenz and nothing solid. That may have some validity, but Lorenz is one of the most in tune guys with our team, so I think this is note worthy. Most of the news coming out about Taco has been similar, that people don't think it's too serious, and combined with the fact that he walked off the field under his own power yesterday, I think we may have dodged a bullet.

Now it's time to just wait and see on a final word about Mone's injury.

Losing a good chunk of our d-line in game 1 would be a terrible way to tank the season. Let's hope for a speedy recorvery for all our players!

The common thread with all these injuries is the Jumpman gear. Michael Jordan put ankle poison in Taco's sneakers. I suspect there was something far more sinister in Mone's trousers.

You might be onto something here... The fabric might be lighter with a looser weave and more conducive to jumping, rather than a thicker fabric with a tighter weave more conducive to impact. Easy fix though, use cheap detergent and hard water to wash the unis, just don't use fabric softener and hang them out to air dry. Remember we recently lost that long term manager to retirement, the new guy is still learning.

There are studies that have concluded Adidas does not give enough ankle support, and the shoes are designed for cosmetic purposes rather then protecting the athlete etc.  D-Rose, Kevin Ware, KG, TMac, RG3, Gilbert Arenas, Reggie Bush, and Galianari.  One of UA selling points is they have superior gear to Adidas, they claim a level playing field with Nike; but both companies appear to be more advanced then Adidas.  When working in administration at the high school we were pitched by UA and they had pages upon pages of graphs and athletes testimonials blasting Adidas, specifically drose and harden demanding upgrades.

I agree, I think Wisconsin at this point is better than MSU and will beat them. But the MSU game still worries me more, between it being on the road and a major rivalry game. It also helps that we play Wisconsin in the middle of their murder's row portion of the schedule, so they can't look ahead to us.

I also think, while Wisconsin looked good, they are benefitting from the fact that LSU was overrated. They're definitely a good team, better than I thought, but not as good as everyone is saying now.

He seems to expose one-on-one matchups down the field regularly, puts the defense in a bad spot. This uptempo offense seems to be keeping Notre Dame on their heels.

It is a very good thing that this is one of our deepest positions. We are able to put in another guy and he will pick up the slack. Haven't watched UCF or Colorado, and the only thing that worries me is an up tempo offense that will tire out the line more.

It's funny I have checked the blog so many times today to see if there was an update on Taco or Mone eventhough I know we may not even get the full story Harbaugh's presser tomorrow.  This blog has delivered some amazing info the last few years so I am conditioned to check for scoop even when I know it is not likely to be forthcoming.  MGoBlog is a powerful, knowledgable place when it comes to Michigan football.  Grateful for it, the many informed posters that share info here, and the jolly jokers too.

I like Lorenz as a recruiting guy..but he has no special access to inside info that I have heard of. He is just guessing like everyone else. He also said MSU will win the B10 this year and that Hawaii would lose to Cass Tech..so I take his "inside info" that is not about recruiting with a grain of salt.

I mean the fact that he's employed by a major site as a recruiting expert means he has special access. He knows/has relationships with many of the current players, giving him access, as well as team and university officials. He also has a reputation as a guy who doesn't guess much, and usually only gives his opinion solidly when he knows something.

He could obviously still be wrong, but he definitely has a better idea than most, and is not guessing like the rest of us. Similarly, his opinion on who will win the B10 this year and Hawaii's talent level have no bearing on this so I fail to see the relevance there.

Yeah he's definitely not Sam Webb, but only Sam is. He's not as in tune as Sam, but definitely moreso than the average fan.

I didn't follow Hudson's recruitment too much, but I didn't recal him being that off. What are you referring to? Even if he was off, one bad recruit does not destroy the rest of his track record.

I was off on the point at which he became a take for the staff (because he wasn't in June after his first visit), but not nearly as off on how his recruitment ended as the above poster implies.

It was about as back and forth as it could get in the 24 hours before he committed. Parents preferred MSU, he preferred M, and Mattison and others sealed the deal late after fully believing he would choose the Spartans. Michigan's media day was the day after the BBQ, and the strong word at the event was that Hudson would choose MSU.

In fact, Michigan's GAs were evaluating some DT/DE types without offers after Hudson left campus after the BBQ in expectation that he was going to commit to Michigan State.

People always remember the ones you don't cover as well or the ones you are wrong on. I'm more than used to that by now.

A guy with a long-term injury with a long rehab might say the same thing as a statement of defiance or determination. Having said that, my guess it's of the 2-3 week variety and not a season ender,

"i"ll be back" by itself doesn't necessarily convey the most positive outlook but I suppose we can take Lorenz's impression for something.

It wouldn't surprise me if Charlton was more like 3-4 weeks (not a real problem) and Mone's was somewhat iffier.
