Stay Classy Michigan State

Stay classy....
Maybe I missed a lost decade somewhere and didn't realize how classy they used to be.
I have heard many many Spartan fans say "stay classy Michigan," which is hilariously backward. They cheered when Denard was hurt. Fuck that.
I don't think this really needs its own thread unless more gifs of cheap shit are posted
Yeah, the MSU fan behind me (that kept kneeing me in the back) was screaming decapitate denard in front of his probably 7th grade son when the Spartan ripped his helmet around. and then claimed BS that a flag was thrown.
After seeing Gholston snap Denard's helmet around and then punch Lewan, and the cheap shot from #44, etc., the rivalry took on a new meaning for me. What a classless bunch of reprobates.
All the while, Denard was helping their players up after they tackled him.
You're right. That wasn't even a rivalry. That was a bunch of ass holes trying to start a fight with a bunch of guys who weren't having it (for the most part). That's not a rivalry. That's just pathetic.
you mean they pushed us and we were too classy to push back? I'm not sure what this post even means.
of course it's a rivalry. does it mean more to them? of course. does mean it's meaningless to our guys. and there are a whole lotta threads on this board that testify to the fact that it means a lot to us too. I hate losing to them. That's a rivalry.
And look at the post game interviews. To a man our guys admitted they got outmanned and beat up by that Defense. That's not good. But it has nothing to do with our guys "not having it" - that's nonsense. I'll tell you what though, i'm glad our guys have the balls to admit it - that's how you overcome and come back next year and kick some ass of their own. I'm old enough to remember some nasty physical games in the 70s and 80s...it's great to have that back, and I look forward to our guys giving as well as they take. Or, to go about "having it" all game long.
Robinson is a heck of a nice guy. But, I bet you would have felt better if he kicked an MSU player in the arse, threw a ball in someone's face, or at least farted at someone.
This is a rivalry game. MSU gave you 13 penalties and you still couldn't win. Also, if your defense has gotten close to Cousins maybe you could have had a few roughing the passer calls--it's hard to do when you're not within five yards of the guy. MSU's defensive coordinator said, "football is 60 minutes of unnessary roughness."
Were they cheap shots? Hell, yes. But this is the B1G, not flag on a Sunday afternoon. If you are satisfied with a team of boy scouts, then fine. Just don't plan on winning anymore MSU games or championships for a while.
Actually, most championship teams know where to draw the line. Charles Woodson never pulled any of that crap against Sparty.
Spartan fan giving Michigan fans advice on winning A. MSU games (67-32-5) and B. Championships (42 B1G Championships) lol
Doesn't Brian usually have a way to lower the gates and keep out the trolls?
I was there for the whole game this statement is not true. The. Beer. Am for the incompletion, it was quiet while Denard was down except for the penalty call. The entire stadium clapped when Denard got up and came off from the field. They did when two other players were down hurt as well including the student section.
I was in section 7 and so many people were booing even after the penalty was announced while Denard was down. It seriously makes me never want to go to one of these games in EL again.
I negged you for trolling by mistake and can't undo it. I'm a dumb-ass and I will pos-bang-you every post I see of yours for the next week.
given what I can interpret from your text, I can only suspect that you are a Sparty troll. Given your writing skills, I am sure of it.
Negged. SPARTYON You troll.
I was there and heard "get off the field you b---h" and "Denard is a worthless f----t" as he was injured. Yes, some people clapped, some booed, some shouted obscenties.
the post game presser? Not up at mgoblue yet. I want to hear Brady's justifications on some of these calls and his reaction to the thuggery.
I may be wrong, but I don't think they post pressers after away games.
I give Hoke credit...he hasn't made excuses and dismissed questions about anyone playing "Dirty" - "I don't know how they played dirty," Hoke said. "They had some personal fouls on late hits on the quarterback, but you can get those all the time."
Martin: "We knew what type of game this was going to be," Martin said. "It's going to be a tough, physical game. Coach talked about keeping our poise and composure as a football team. I think we did a good job of it on that side of it. "I mean, who doesn't know what this type of game is? It's a tough physical game, period. It's an in-state rival. It's big for both teams. That's what it's all about."
Kovacs: "They were definitely more physical, They pounded us. They beat us up. You've got to give them a lot of credit.
And Denard makes the biggest staement imo - given all the hand-wringing here anyway - "Asked later if Michigan State played dirty, Robinson said, "No. We were playing football. It's a dirty game."
Hoke on the 4th down call: “We’ve been very successful over the last two years off of that same play...It was Al’s call. I was the one who said, ‘Go for it.' "
I noticed they didn't put lewan up there for a question like that. I think he might have a slightly different opinion, although I respect our teams decision to take the loss in stride, shitty cheap shots and all, and move on for the rest of the season/rivalry.
Wow I don't even know what to say. Like everyone else I am not pissed that we lost but the way Sparty won. Just shit like this should not happen.
The way they won? Come on they beat us up and down the field period. Maybe one of those calls (the punch, which was after an shove to the head, doesn't justify a punch but it wasn't unprovoked). Those calls we're iffy and they did get penized for them, We got beat because they were better not be ause of some calls which we benefited from. MSU was not classless on the field or from the fans , don't forget how we celebrated the Notre Dame game lets be real!
Organized taunting? Multiple late hits? I don't remember that being true of us in the ND game.
Yes, they were better today. But I have lost all respect for Dantonio, his players, and their staff. Players wouldn't be doing that if they didn't know there would be no consequences for them.
is obvious.
Obvious troll is negged for trolling. Obviously.
You sir are an IDIOT!
MSU fans are actually saying that Lewan deserved to get punched and that the play wasn't that dirty. Of course, they're also saying that Gholston should not be suspended or disciplined. Keep it classy, East Lansing.
I don't think any fan base deserves to be judged by the comments at ESPN. I read TOC and that's as far as I'm willing to go.
Next you'll be asking us to read the comments to Yahoo! news articles.
What Lewan did wasn't exactly clean either. HOWEVA, the little facemask nudge on Gholston is far less damning than a fricking PUNCH and HEAD TWIST. The former is maybe a 15 yard persoanl foul if teh refs see it, the latter should be instant ejection and suspension.
I honestly cannot fathom how you can defend that punch and say he shouldn't be suspended. I don't care what Lewan did...you do NOT throw a punch in football, and when you do you should get ejected and suspended. I don't care what Lewan did. You just can't do that!
My expectations for Spartan intergity were really low to begin with, but I think they've hit rock bottom.
"Will Gholston had a fine day for the Spartans, but he probably shouldn't have been on the field for the fourth quarter. In the third quarter, Gholston was flagged for piling on Denard Robinson well after the play was over, then wrenching Robinson's helmet around for good measure. Later in the quarter, Gholston was being manhandled away from the play by Michigan OL Taylor Lewan, and when Gholston made it to his feet, he summarily punched Lewan in the facemask. Famed referee Mike Pereira said on Twitter that he would have ejected Gholston, and it's entirely possible that MSU or the Big Ten will suspend Gholston next week when Wisconsin comes to town."
When will he get his cool tatoo of a Spartan standing over a dead Missouri player? Worthy's is totally cool like that
Dantonio is a man of integrity he will be suspended for the Wisconsin game.
He'll suspend Gholston for sure, but he'll reinstate him in time for practice on Monday.
Not happening against the toughest team they will face this year.
Or any other team, for that matter...
Let him be on the field for the ass kicking Wisconsin is going to put on them. The refs will be watching closely cuz everyone will be talking about how bad the refs were in this game. Michigan didn't play well enough to win but MSU got away with murder. How many personal fouls against MSU? Too many for any team I ever coached. Some of my kids would be sitting the bench watching. But HS football isn't big business like college football. Dantonio is not my kind of coach.
6 personal fouls for 90 yards' worth by my count, on top of the rest of the 11 penalties that they incurred for the game.
Hear, hear!
I posted this elsewhere but at the very end of the game, the last thing viewed before the broadcast switched to the Texas game was Gholston going up to Coach Hoke and getting his attention. I'm sure (mostly) to shake his hand, but at the moment I imagined this,
"Hey Coach Hoke!" BAM!!!
Any info released about their discussion? Did anyone get any audio?
They were the better team today, but they brought disgrace onto that school at the same time.
Of the three major personal fouls, this is the one I have the least problems with. We all know how agressive Lewan can be, and my guess is after watching film this week he'll be in for some extra conditioning drills. There was no real injury risk with this play. The facemask twist and body slams are what really piss me off because those could have crippled Robinson for life.
The thing is, it kind of looked like Lewan was helping him up and rather than take it as a gesture of good will, Gholston punched him. That's just poor sportsmanship and is just as bad as the Denard hits if you ask me.
I think if you watch the rest of that play, Lewan kinda holds Gholston down but doesn't get called for it. And as he was getting up I think Lewan was talking some smack. Doesn't excuse a punch but Lewan wasn't 100% innocent on that play.
Lewan in my eyes did nothing wrong. Call me biased, but gholston is a dirty player.
Lewan was keeping him on the ground while the play was still live but that is how you finish plays as a lineman.
It stands to reason that Lewan shared his opinion of Gholson's character with him as he helped him up.
come on...he pushed his face into the turf and was jawing at him ALL GAME long...Lewan is well known to be a talker. Gholston reacted badly and got flagged for it. he's hardly Jack the Ripper. Just watch how non chalantly Lewan walks away after the punch...he did what he wanted, instigated the sophomore and got him to commit a stupid penalty. all gamesmanship, but he was definitely pushing it.
A stupid penalty that results in a one game suspension from the Big Ten, and according to Jim Delaney it is "unnacceptable" and "has no place in the sport of football or the Big Ten Conference." This isn't some little thing that happens every game, it's a big deal.
indicated that Lewan did much of anything. The whistle wasn't blown, when Gholston was on the ground. Lewan has every right to continue to block him.
Isn't it within the rules and aren't they taught to lay on top of Dlineman through the whistle if they get them on the ground?
No, i'll bet Lewan was talking some trash. But, when you are winning on the field you don't need to resort to bush league haymakers.
"It was 60 minutes of unnecessary roughness and that what we tried to achieve." Pat Narduzzi on MSU win.
That was some of the most disgusting personal fouls I have ever seen in a game.
If he really said that then it was clear that they were taking cheap shots to take our players our of the game. I might even venture to say that Narduzzi probably told his players to try injure our players.
Fuck them. that's all. next year, i say we run the score up on them, go for two on every td, and keep the starters in the whole game.
Why stoop to their level? Beat them cleanly and fairly by 2 touchdowns, and we all go home happy
If only we had thought of that this year!
the most classless fans around .. I was at the game with my 7 year old son, and we were walking into the bathroom before the game. There were about 15 spartan students standing by the door .. 2 got in my face and started saying fuck you motherfucker and another one was pointing in my sons face saying "you're growing up a walmart wolverine fucker" ... schools and the ncaa need to clean this crap up
Schools and the NCAA cannot make people not be assholes. All we can do is start treating Lansing like Columbus - get in for the game, get out quick, don't spend a penny in their craphole of a town.
I saw none of this, I think you are lying period. Get over it we lost. Noone was acti g this way
the punch was excessive yes but look at the good defenses they hurt people they are violent thats what michigan should have been playing like.. you should want to hurt people when you hit them. state played that way..
I don't think you really understand football
Yeah , you jump on piles and jerk a guys face mask trying to break his neck. That's football to you? I coach kids and I watched this game with my son and some of his friends. The kids were disgusted. That's not football and it's not being tough. It's being a coward and having no respect for the game.
see a Michigan team doing those things I will probally throw up. You can play good defense without resorting to thuggish behavior. There is no excuse for that shit, whatsoever.
I didnt say play cheap. But when they would hit people they were trying to make kill shots on legal hits. Michigan is just hoping to tackle someone. When I played jr hockey and college we were more intense than everyone and in weekend games we would always win game 2 because we wore you down. We hit you hard and it hurt you. The same concept can be applied to football. Look at all the top defenses they play with great passion and hit hard. You have to be violent when playing a physical sport but within the rules. It's plenty of respect for the game. Just like Taylor's mean streak our defense needs to play with that mean streak.
Case and point.
Yeah, but it's like when your little brother punches you in the face. You don't go and tell your parents. You get even. I think we forgot that last part.
There was really no danger for Lewan in that situation. I am sure that Lewan can get punched like that all day and just be pissed off but what Gholsten did against Denard was an attempt to end a players career. That kind of play is unacceptable in my mind.
Yea, the twishing of the facemask and the body slam are what bother me the most.
Michigan didnt play well enough to win today. We didn't lose because of all the personal fouls either. Yes Michigan state was very unclassy. So let's be classy by not talking about what horrible sportsmanship they have. The games over, we'll get em. Karmas a bitch.
Sparty has always played this way against us. The difference is that, in the past, we were always able to make them pay for their stupidity.
level today. And some posters don't seem to understand, nobody is saying the loss was due to the behavior of MSU or is pissed about it because UM lost. People are pissed becaused it was completely ridiculous and ultimately resulted in an injury to Denard, which some people seem to be ignoring.
... I would expect that they'll take it to an even higher level next year.
Oh come on guys-it's football-it's a dirty game-always has been-always will be. If you watch the whole thing the state player was having his head pushed into the ground. Bottom line MSU kicked your butts-they have more experience more talent today. Their D played very well- whining about lack of handshakes at the end of game-taunting is weak. How soon people forget about the fab five dancing at mid court after kicking some serious a** at MSU . How about Michigan sticking roses in their mouths and dancing around at Spartan stadium and not shaking hands.
It's a game- a game that today showed MSU is a tougher team.
I remember D. Morris being kind of cocky last year when he dominated Izzo the last game of the year.
How about Michigan sticking roses in their mouths and dancing around at Spartan stadium and not shaking hands.
We danced around with roses at Spartan Stadium? I don't think we've ever played you guys late enough in the season to do that.
I really don't care what the players do after the game, but I have a problem with players being allowed to repeatedly take cheap shots at our QB, receiving nothing more than the occasional penalty. Gholston had no business playing the 4th quarter.

some of the crap you saw from MSU is just part of football, than why don't you see teams racking 6+ personal foul penatlies every game? Sorry, your post is idiotic. Punches and late hits with malicious intent, like the last one on Denard, are not things that should occur in the game. Football is a physical game, you can be physical without crap like that.
He had better sit next week. That's the rule right? Besides the wwe flying splashes five seconds after the play was dead gholston really didn't do much. Oh and the punch to the face.
Because Michigan doesn't do this..
There's a difference between 1 player doing it and an entire team pulling cheap shots
was the only thing that occured. Nobody claimed that Michigan players have never done something similar, but I don't recall a game where I saw Michigan rack up 6 or so personal fouls.
wait until the Big Ten office gets the film.
MSU is going down next week anyway.
Not saying its not a dirty play but I guess everyone failed to realize that before that, Lewan was holding gholstons facemask and patting him on the back. Not saying it deserved a punch but don't give Taylor Lewan, who has a history of personal fouls himself from last year, off the hook.
"Not saying its not a dirty play, but (justifies dirty play). Not saying it deserved a punch but (pretty much says it deserved a punch)."
The problem with Sparty people is that, although they despair their trashy reputation, they repeatedly validate it. And wait till the sofas start burning.
.....that the MGoCommunity is a classy joint, and that our team is a classy team with a QB whose smile eradicates world hunger. MSU has a QB whose smile underscores the need to master personal pronouns when you're going to trash talk.
VG showed a complete lack of character in this game. Football or any sport should be based on good sportsmanship. If a player doesn't exhibit this, you have to wonder whether the player's coaches emphasize this. Given the fact that Dantonio has mentored under a known sleaze-ball like Jim Tressel, the answer is now obvious. Coach Dantonio should be disciplined by the Big Ten for his weenie-like lack of willingness to take VG out of the game like he should have. I'm disgusted that a program of poor moral leadership like MSU is a member of our conference.
Completely agree with you on every point. The problem is that Willy Gholton won't be suspended by Dantonio, and I doubt the Big Ten cracks down on them for more than a game or so if they even get that
I think Urban ends up taking the Ohio State job. BRING IT!
GO BLUE!!
This is funny show the play in its entirety, stupid to throw the punch but was not unprovoked. As far as the personal fouls? Well I thought 2 of them were gifts to us, the face mask twist not cool but some of these posts are wayyyuyu out of line. USAF at the 50 yard line U of fans and MSU fans alike, there was nothing unsportsmanlike goIng on through the entire game, I tailgates with both sides, the fans didn't cheer whe Denard was hurt that is a total lie, the state fans including the student section. ChJeered when all of the U of M players came off the field. The Spartan band played Hail to the Victors yada yada yada this blog today is totter out of line. Every stadium including our own has a handful of morons but this was sims not this way at MSU today and they payed well. We eve got the benefit of a couple of calls I don't think should have been made.
The punch wasn't what bugged me - it was the numerous roughing the passer and late hit penalties. Gholston is a punk but Lewan can take care of himself. Taking head shots at a down QB is uncalled for.
Hey guys. As some of you know, I'm a current senior trumpet in the MMB. I'd like to share with you some of my experiences at the game today, as most of you probably don't know just how classless MSU was. We were seated right in front of the MSU Baseball Team that was honored at the game. During the first quarter, some MMB members were complaining of being "spit" on by these people. Eventually, somebody came down and told them "Don't do it anymore, we have cameras on you". This only stopped them briefly. To have random fans doing this is one thing, but the god damn baseball team doing this was as classless as you can get. After the game was over, the MSU players received the Paul Bunyan trophy. Instead of going to, you know, they're fucking student section, they ran the trophy over to US. As the trophy was literally 4 inches from my face, an MSU football player pointed at me, mouthed "fuck you" and flipped me off. This was accompanied by numerous other insults revolving around "4 years" and other nonsense. Also, the MMB was absolutely swallowed up by the trash tornado during postgame. I actually had to peel garbage off of me while playing multiple times. Obviously the wind had a lot to do with this, but is it really that hard to find a trash can? (Insert Michigan State stadium joke here). Absolute classlessness. I would be absolutely ashamed if our team did something like this to opposing fans.
Thanks BISB for the move. My bad.
Question request for Monday Press Conference:
Brady,
Upon reviewing the film how do you feel about some of the hits and penalties during the game? If so, what are the potential actions and procedures in reporting them?
I saw the team go over to you guys (the band) and saw numerous players flip you off and taunt you. From the 35th row I kind not read their lips but that is terrible. It is one thing to do it to your opponent, but to do it to the band is horendous.
http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10100922430009683
Sums up the teams pretty well: MSU's cheap shots, Denard helping up MSU's players and patting them on the back.
I'm suprised you said "classy'' and "Michigan St." in the same sentence.
Bielema's lines have never been above some shady hits when they face stiff competition. I think Sparty's good enough we will see karmic retribution.
"C'mon, I just wanna see ONE chop block! Take out Lewan's fucking legs!" -- random State fan during the 4th quarter.
Someone needed to give that turd the business.
Oh mann... I got kicked in the back, punched in the face, and the police threatened to take ME to jail because I was creating a disturbance.
And that was their fans, the players played about the same way. Cheap shots, late hits, a taunting that should have seen a TD come back, it was terrible.
I guess it is summed up by one MSU fan next to me in the student section yesterday: she was wearing a green and white hat that said "Play Dirty." and that's it.
Look in the mirror. Last October Lewan was bragging about what a cheap shot artist he is:
http://www.annarbor.com/sports/um-football/taylor-lewan-story/
Not that Lewan is above landing a cheap shot against his friendly rival.
“I am the cheap shot,” he said. (Lewan)
He smiles. “I’m blatant about it.”
“My job is to piss people off,” he said. (Lewan)
It’s an approach that sometimes invites trouble. Against Iowa two weeks ago, officials flagged Lewan for two false starts and a personal foul - all in the first half - before Rodriguez benched him.
Its cute when its your own. Not all Michigan men are the model of sportsmanship you delude yourself into thinking. Looks like Lewan did what he bragged about and Ghoulston took a stupid penalty.
