Stauskas Big Ten POY, Beilein Splits COY (with Miles)

Submitted by bballislife22 on

Stauskas goes from being one of the most efficient role players in America last season to being one of the most efficient PLAYERS in America this season.

As for Beilein, what more can be said that hasn't already been said.

We're quite lucky to get to root for both of these guys, as well as the rest of the team. Looking forward to a great next 3-4 weeks of the season (hopefully).

You're saying Caris next POY? Hope so!

I actually meant who'd be the fifth-straight to be on All-Freshman team. Obviously, the top candidate is Kameron Chatman—although Sam Webb keeps saying how underrated D.J. Wilson is.

EDIT: Note that this is only going back to 1985.

EDIT2: This tweet was incorrect—this was actually the third time this has happened. The first time was Michigan's Gary Grant in 1988 and Glen Rice in 1989. (h/t Team 101 below.)

were on the All Big Ten injured-but-would-have-averaged-at-least-27 team.  That award was handed out off camera.

I hear Izzo cried when he heard the news and then tried to beat up old Grandma on a walker.

We have a real chance with Levert next year to win 3 in a row (or McGary*, GR3*) - Yogi and Petteway look to be main competition there.

Amazing condition of program.

Here are the 2nd teams if curious

2nd team media: Yogi, Caris, Craft, Payne, Newbill

2nd team coaches: same as above, but without Craft and add Dekker from Wiscy

Admittedly only watching his two games against us, it's hard to believe he has much development left in his game.  He shot the lights out the first game, and was the fastest player on the court last night, especially the first half.  Not that our defense has been subperb, but he was leaving everyone in his wake.

It is nice to see Michigan recognized for its outstanding talent, coaching and its performance in what is a very competitive conference. Nick was Big Ten player of the week for the fourth time, just this morning and now he's Big Ten Player of the Year. I wonder how how many times a conference player of the year has also earned the Wooden Award? I assume someone has stats on this, but I can't imagine it is all that often.

I can live with JB and Miles sharing the award.  Both did a great job.

I wonder how this works - were they actually tied, or was it just close, and the league office decided to step in and declare them co-winners?

It actually ran through my head last night that this would be the perfect outcome.  All three of those guys deserve an award and all three of those guys got an award.  I like it.

Congratulations to all the winners....all deserved.

I have rarely enjoyed a season of baxketball as much as this past year.  Let's hope for great things in March.

I can't remember a basketball season I've enjoyed more.  With Trey and Tim the expectations were way higher so it was harder (at least for me) to enjoy the ride until last season's tourney run.  This year many were writing the team off after a 6-4 start.  I remember telling my dad that I thought they'd come around, given the youth on the team and Belein's development track record.  My dad thought they'd win around 18 games.  I never saw this coming but I thought they'd do better.  This year has gone above my wildest expectations, and that's why the ride has been so enjoyable.  Thanks team, and go blue!
