Stats heavy article about Izzo and MSU

Submitted by SanDiegoWolverine on
I would have posted this in the other topic but that thread has developed so much and the MGOcommunity loves stats so here it is: http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2010/03/incredible-izzo-again-defies-odd… Nate Silver is obviously a homer but the stats look pretty damn good for Izzo, and by posting one nice thing about MSU and feel better bashing them for the rest of the year. The article basically just says with stats that the chance the MSU has done this well in the tourney on luck alone is extremely small.

Fuck Tom Izzo, Fuck Michigan State University, Fuck Jim Tressel and Thad Matta, Fuck Ohio State University, Fuck Miami University(NTM) and most of all Fuck the officiating in last night's game. I think that about covers it.

This article doesn't really change the fact that the overall #1 seed along with the two and three seeds in the region were also defeated. They only beat one higher seeded team in their bracket and it was an overrated (IMO) 4 seed off a buzzer beater. It also doesn't take into account the details surrounding each game so far in THIS tournament. Don't get me wrong, I respect Izzo and his abilities....but to say that MSU is not extremely fortunate to be where they are right now THIS year is pretty ridiculous IMO.

For those who want to harp on the fact that they have done this without Lucas.....I think it speaks more to how weak the teams they have played are rather than some unmeasurable ability to step up. He is their best player....there's no way they would have beaten Kansas (or OSU) without him.

Anyone want to wager on the amount of time until another "Oregon offers Izzo largest contract in CBB history" thread appears?

Enough of this Izzo love already! WTF? Dumbest/most obvious quote of the thread goes to the OP: "...the chance the MSU has done this well in the tourney on luck alone is extremely small." No shit? It isn't "luck alone"? So, it could be talent PLUS a bunch of luck as a #5 seed barely beating much lower seeds than a #5 would normally encounter? Wow...amazing.

Oh great, another Tom Izzo MSU thread. As much as I respect Izzo, take these fucking topics and post them on a sparty message board. I'm sick of reading about MSU, this is mother fucking mgoblog!
