Stats : Had Drob stayed in the game...

Submitted by Hoken's Heroes on

...based on his stats in the first quarter, DROB would have been projected to have rushed for

516 yards

and passed for

240 yards

and scored

8 TDS.

Obviously, these numbers would not have held up BUT, are 129 yards rushing, 4/4 60 yards passing and two tds in ONE QUARTER good enough to keep the best all around football player in the country at the top of the Heisman list?

I say for right now, yes.

What Drob does against more mature D's will tell us more about him and where he stays in the Heisman race.

And for the record, the heisman would be icing on the cake. The prize is beating MSU/OSU and being in contention for the Big 10 title.

More accurately though it would be more. He didn't play in 2 drives in the first quarter.  He only played half of the first quarter......

Edit- see above post too.

I don't think Denard's Heisman should take a hit because of this game. Ultimately, whether or not he moves down the list will have little impact on whether or not he wins it. That will be determined by how he performs during the B10 schedule.

But keep in mind that Pryor had 6 TDs today and, I hate to admit, looked very good.  Not suggesting that he has outperformed Robinson, but padding his stats while Robinsin sat certainly didn't help the Shoelace for Heisman cause.

is unfortunately dependent on our defense and special teams as much as it is on DR and our offense. Our D's performances against UConn and ND looks less impressive now than they did coming out of those games, and our weaknesses defending the pass are going to be a serious issue during the conference part of our schedule. And it's hardly a stretch to think that our kicking game is going to cost us at least one close game.

*because as a practical matter, one-half the players on the field are automatically removed from consideration because they happen to play on defense. Since the disappearance of two-way players, the only legitimate winner of the award for the nation's best football player has been Charles Woodson.

We've all heard about Denard joining select company as far as players who have generated 200 yards rushing and passing in a single game.  If Denard stayed in the game it really seemed like he would have a great shot at eclipsing 300 yards rushing and passing.  Has that ever happened before?

No one's gotten 250/250, which Denard came very close to doing against ND.  I think he might possibly get a 300/200 combination someday, but 300 in both categories would be tough.  I figure any game in which we gain 600+ offensive yards is unlikely to be close, and thus Denard wouldn't stay in long enough.
