The State Of Our Open Threads: After Michigan State
Well, despite having more or less conceded early in the week that the numbers and recent performance may have made the result of our match with MSU something of a foregone conclusion (though never say never - Massey pegged it at 8%, after all), we can't say that we in the MGoCommunity didn't show up with our discontent on our sleeve.
The thread came out to 2,205 posts, far and away in the top three this year so far (third, in fact, after Utah and Rutgers), and we tallied 712 instances of tracking cursing or key words (as not all of them are swearing save in the MGoSense perhaps). That comes out to an efficiency of 3.10, which is second only to Rutgers. Year-to-date progress on that metric is below:
Quick note - I forgot about a few pages of the Penn State thread, so the number is adjusted and correct - we won, but it was ugly as you can see here. Yesterday, we lost...and it was ugly as you can see here.
The normalized values for the top contributors show a revival of a certain sentiment for the board:
We harkened back to previous gripes in the MSU game - like Notre Dame, we went to "suck" quite a bit, and like Miami (OH), we wanted someone fired. Indeed, 135 instances of that key word alone even after BeatOSU's attempt to fuck with the numbers. Quite a bit of "damn" creeped into the conversation as well. For those looking for fucks, we gave 250 of them on the button, adjusted for non-game references.
To see the uptick in "fire" and its season trend, here is the "Fuck-Fire Relationship":
On this, it is pretty clear that the Miami (OH) game is perhaps the game that broke a lot of people when it came to the future of Hoke, or it could simply have been a series of oopsies that let a MAC team back into the game for a bit. Clearly, Rutgers was where we gave the most fucks, a fair number of them coming on that one awful call and Frank Clark's "Y U NO WRAP UP AND TACKLE?"
Here's one that I don't think I've shared yet this season - the "Suck-Ass Relationship":
We don't use "ass" a lot, but we have been using it. I am proud that our strategy is diversifying actually. "Suck"....well....we don't use that too much in relative terms either, but we probably should use it more this year. No, we will probably use it more this year.
If you've gotten this far, you'll love the Mood Chart:
So, adjusted numbers move Minnesota into the "Satisfaction" quadrant. We've come to that when it comes to prevailing mood, although the change to a more haphazard liveblog scheme and the sheer volumes of Utah, Rutgers and now MSU distort this somewhat perhaps. It's all comparative, of course - Miami (OH) and Penn State barely sit in the "Satisfaction" quadrant too. We will always have Appalachian State: The Revenge, right?

Being a Michigan fan this season is like the episode of Monk where his psychiatrist decides to retire. Monk goes through all of the symptoms of grief, over and over, in rapid succession. For me, every stage is temporary until David Brandon is fired and I am living them over and over.

"Fuck" is a good leading indicator for "fire." Makes sense.

Oh, it's no problem - while I don't include such posts in the data, I do find them very funny even if this time it was laughter born out of a shared sentiment basically (hence a little sadness). It was quite an effort really, as if your post had been included, the count of "fire" would have nearly doubled.
