Starting QB prediction thread

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

I found something really interesting on Twitter. Wolverine Sports Radio, who resident mod LSAClassOf2000 is part of, posted a poll on their twitter on who fans want to start at QB.

As of 8:43pm, it is deadlocked. EVEN at 50-50 with Rudock and Morris at 79 votes each.

Haven't seen an mgoblog prediction thread so...

1) who will start the season opener and why?

2) do you predict that QB will be the starter throughout the entire season. If not, who will take his spot?

He will run around shirtless screaming "PLANT THROW" as he delivers bullets down the field to Gentry, Peppers, and Norfleet, who is riding the shoulders of Funchess, returned from the NFL.

This is my dream.

There are things that Harbaugh has said about trying to shoot for a balanced attack and a few other tidbits (for there has not been much other than tidbits lately) that make me think Rudock has the edge on paper simply from an experience standpoint. I would be surprised if he didn't start the Utah game honestly, but as others have said, I think you definitely cheer for whoever does.

Does it stay that way? It's a long season and I don't think anything is being assumed right now in this camp. I big "no idea" here.

Experience, minimal turnovers, plus he has played pretty well in a few big games such as OSU and Wiscy. Whoever wins will get my support, as I will expect them to win the Heismann, National Championship then Super Bowl.

That poll asks who you want to see start, not a prediction of who will start.

I want to see Shane start, that means he has shown a tremendous amount of growth and Harbaugh has complete faith in him over a guy he probably told would get the job when he was transferring.

That being said, I think Rudock starts.  The odd thing is this tough OOC schedule won't provide many chances for a backup QB to get in unless the team is struggling most likely.

Rudock

Would be fine if Morris wins it, just can't seem to forget his dreadful performances and don't see how he can improve so soon. Rudock just seems to be Exactly what we need right now. Gonna find out really soon! Can't Freaking Wait!

I believe Morris will get the start for the opener, but I think the competition throughout the non-conf schedule will remain open. Rudock and possibly others could see significant playing time early on until somebody sets themselves apart. The same could be said for the starting RB battle.

although my hope is Morris because Rudock is the safe guy with lower ceiling. I hope Morris comes through and takes the job. If they are equal at the start of the season, I think Morris will be much better by the end of the year.

I hope it's Morris for the future of the program, but man if you are Rudock it would suck to transfer here from Iowa because you were relegated to the bench . . . only to be relegated to the bench here.

You pays your money, you takes your chances I guess.

1) I think Rudock is most likely to start.  I think his experience will win out.  Fisch was praising his ability to avoid sacks and not throw picks.

2) I think Rudock will maintain his position as the primary QB.

Sadly, I'm not overly convinced we see Morris throw a meaningful pass at Michigan ever again.

I think Rudock gets the nod because he's got the experience, makes smart decisions, and most importantly, he doesn't turn the ball over. I'd like to see Moreis get the nod because he's got a much higher ceiling, but I'm not sure he'll beat out Rudock. This year's Q? Doesn't need to be a hero. Just needs to manage games and not commit turnovers.

Starting next year. I think the job comes down between O'Korn and Gentry, with Gentry ultimately getting the nod. He is built like a Harbaugh QB.

As long as the best player is out on the field, I don't care who starts. Again, my bet is on Gentry, because he's got several qualities and attributes that are similar to Kapernick and Luck.

That doesn't mean he'll play, but he's got just as good a shot as O'Korn, perhaps even a better one. I just think he has the highest ceiling of any QB on the current roster.

But hey that's just, like, my, opinion, man.

That the noise we are hearing from "insiders" is just noise. Harbaugh is a master of competition. I think Ruddock will be the starter. I believe Harbaugh will use Morris to push Ruddock to get better. Think about how much publicity Ruddock has gotten as the shoe in to start. If I were Harbaugh I would talk up Morris in practice, I would SPend a few extra minutes with Morris at the beginning of camp just to see how Ruddock responds. This is what I love about football and we have a coaching staff that will find a way to push the right buttons.

On another note before this response turns into a diary, I think Morris has a shot if Ruddock is not performing at least as equally as Morris.

Prediction that I hope is incorrect. Morris loses to Rudock. Morris transfers after fall camp with two years eligibility from not receiving a redshirt year.

I really thought it was going to be Morris until I saw Jake Rudock's media interview. But fuck it, as great as a guy as he sounds, I'm gonna stick with Morris until proven otherwise. I'm sure this is personal bias in wanting him to succeed, but I think the man can do it, and I like his attitude.

Morris, because he's determined to get that spot. Kid committed really early and loves Michigan. He wants to look good for the new coaches and he just straight up wants this the most, IMO.

Morris overtakes sometime during the season has always been my prediction. However, I am increasingly convinced Harbaugh chooses to go with Morris, the better talent, sooner rather than later
