Start of Bowl Season Open Thread/New Mexico/Potato/New Orleans Bowl

Submitted by M-Wolverine on

We'll see how it goes. If there's a lot of interest, or a lot of other posts shoving it down the front page, we can do one for each bowl.  If it's a slow day, this can take care of all 3 bowl games today.  It's not like it's the Rose Bowl or anything today.  Though I am anxious to see the offense of Temple. I hear their OC is pretty good.  And SDS later should look familiar.  Ohio/Utah ST? Yeah, I got nothing.  But that doesn't have to matter in these threads.  It's for the fun, the love of college football. And werid JHackney pictures.  So come one, come all, come Blue Dragon, and let's enjoy the cheesy greatness/awfulness of the bowl season.

Edit: We've had 3 new threads since kickoff, and 10 still below it on the front page. I'm not bumping stuff for a new thread for each of these bowls. Someone might on New Year's Day or something.  If a mod wants separate threads for these, be my guest, just seems a waste of space. If something groundbreaking happens that bumps this off the front page, we probably won't care about the bowls anymore anyway.

First game going well..I gave the points.  We'll see about Utah State and SDS later.

I totally forgot there was College Football on.

I'll take it. If I have to hear about Chris Paul or Dwight Howard again this weekend, I'm going to scream.

Give me the Domino's Pasta Bread Bowl over the "news" SportsCenter has been reporting all week.

As a MAC sports geek. I'm pumped for today. In the Ohio/Utah State game the only one you had nothing for, watch it because Ohio's starting QB is Mickey Tettleton's son and Ohio has been one of the most exciting teams to watch in the MAC this year.

Is there any way to see every pick for the other people entries in ESPN Bowl Mania? I'm in w/a small group of friends and who like to know who to root against without having to check before every single game

I wonder if you get free underwear and socks for attending the game actually....if corporate sponsors really played the bowls right, you could do the tour and gets tons of good stuff.

I'll take college football any way I can get. There is nothing better than this sport. While they don't appear to be good teams, it could turn out to be a great game.

This is the Temple I'm used to seeing. Honestly if they played up to their potential they'd probably win the MAC easy but they just have habit of blowing games in conference. Some of their fans like to blame this on MAC trying to screw them for being a football-only members. Crazies exist at every level of football people.

The Wyoming fan in the barrel and helmet. I wish you could unsee things.

EDIT: ....and Temple scores again. Wyoming's defense does not have an answer for Pierce other than leaving a running lane open.

Despite that interception I've been pertty impressed with Wyoming's QB so far. He's playing well beyond where most true freshmen are at this point. Could make them a team to watch in the Mountain West in the next few years.

You know the best part of bowls might be watching all these sponsers advertisements that you see at no other point throughout the year. I'm starting to think that if we pool our money together we could have the mgoblog bowl

I only had Temple as 11 confidence even though I knew the MAC is an extra strong conference this year. So I adjusted and moved Ohio up to 35 and SDSU up to 34. THEY BETTER GODDAMN WIN. Or I'm going to be very unhappy. Go big or go home!

...I am sure that they've seen games like  this before, so this isn't exactly new at University Field.

EDIT: Wyoming threatening...kind of. They go for it on 4th and 2, only to be 4th and 3 moments later, but wait....what? TD Wyoming!

Teams are a combined 4/4 going for it on fourth downs in the first half. Coaches are just coddling favors from the blogging crowd for next season

Scott Loeffler calling a good game for Temple; though Wyoming looks pretty incompetent at times. Nice way to end the half there boys, wow.

(Nice shout out to coach Loeffler at the half too by head coach!)
