was a bigger challenge than Northwestern will be (not \2) . After all, they beat the mighty Spartans, with the land's best defense and an unstobbable arsenal of offensive weapons\s

Maybe he should stop considering who is what Star Wars character, and focus on why he haa two 2-loss teams ahead of us, and why KSU jumps from unranked to ahead of Michigan.

Because Michigan's schedule so far has been Notre Dame, a mediocre MWC team, and three MAC teams.  All at home.

FSU played tough against two of the best teams in the country and, though they lost both, they look like the second-best team in the ACC and probably en route to 9 or 10 regular season wins.

KSU has two solid wins so far.

Michigan, on the other hand, kind of lucked out a win against Notre Dame, and aside from that, has played the four weakest opponents on their schedule.  We have little knowledge on how they stack up against good teams- they could still realistically finish anywhere from 6-6 to B1G champs.

K-State?  I'm sorry, but I'm not convinced that Eastern Kentucky/Kent State/Miami/Baylor is any stronger than our schedule.  Particularly due to the fact that they barely squeaked by Eastern Kentucky (10-7), and have played one less game.  Notre Dame would roll anyone that K-State has played along with K-State themselves.  Furthermore, both San Diego St and Western Michigan would give them all they want.

Meanwhile, Texas has beaten: Rice, BYU, UCLA and Iowa State. Yet, Staples has them at #10 and doesn't make any mention of their weak schedule.

Huegenin (sp?) at Rivals also goes out of his way to dismiss UM's defensive showing thus far with this quote: "The defense has made some strides, but it still has a ways to go -- and it is going to be overrun one of these weeks." Not one single complimentary thing stated about UM in his write-up desipite placing UM at #12. He's probably still miffed that UM beat SDSU as he had predicted that Aztecs would upset UM.

Only 8 or 9 more weeks to keep this schtik going. It's going to be pretty sad at the end ofthe season when he's searching for something he hasn't used. Preview of last three weeks: types of sushi, 1970s sitcoms, and Civil War generals

Staples' theme based rankings are dumb.  It's almost as if he's trying to overcompensate for attending an SEC school and demonstrate his intellect to his readers.  The problem is 1) he's trying too hard, and 2) the majority of his readers, particularly the SEC ones, don't understand any of his references (particularly the literary ones).

I strongly disagree with how low we are on Staples' rankings; I think #16 is perfect for us right now. My disagreements:

11: Texas (5-0): I can't understand why Texas is ranked this high having beaten... absolutely no one this year. UCLA? Iowa State? After they throttle OU in the Red River Shootout I'll happily agree they deserve to be above us, but considering their last year was worse than ours, I can't understand this ranking.

16: Nebraska (4-1): No. Best win is over the Huskies? They definitely deserve a knock, particularly given Martinez's inconsistency. We may have not been tested severely yet, but they've been abysmal in their only one so far.

18: Florida (4-1): With the unfortunate injury to Brantley I think they're headed for a fre-fall.

19: WVU (4-1): No.  Best wins so far are over Marshall and Maryland. Unjustifiable for them to be above us.
