Michigan has proven that they can beat anyone if they play well and lose to almost anyone if they don't.  They also seem to play up and down to the level of competition.  But they are getting more experience every week.

Bring it on.

I agree somewhat but I still think that performance from Michigan at Crisler would beat Arizona 9 out of 10 times. On that day, Ashley played out of his ever-living mind and the refs were ... well ... not really doing the normal home team accomodation usually seen in front of hot college basketball crowds.

I really, really want another shot at that team.

just a bucket of KFC, so much cleaner.

Michigan running on all cylinders and being moderately hot from behind the arc can beat any team in the country.  Right now they are getting about 1 or 2 cylinders at a time consequently the potential is very, very evident and pretty much everybody is just waiting for this team to erupt.  The commentators that cover Michigan games unanomously see the potential and almost specifically ackowledge that they are watching the first strokes of what is going to be a damn fine painting.

Here is the question for Saturday.  Michigan suffered a tough, really kind of unfair loss on Sunday despite really playing well.  They will without question come out jacked on Saturday.  The question is can they funnel that enthusiasm into hard, coherent play, or will their emotions get the better of them and play kind of stoked up but dysfunctional game.  My prediction is that we will get a healthy dose of Spike.  I think that the circumstances combined with the venue may be a little over Walton's head right now.

I don't think the assembly line style mercy killing of delicious, juicy, finger lickin' good mutant chicken will suffice. But whether it works or not, you'll have a delicious family meal at affordable prices.

Yay, they're not all that good yet they're good enough to beat a top 25 team (I don't think UConn is top 10) which means they're probably good enough to beat our "still finding ourselves"-butts...Awesome.

*I am not predicting a loss by any means, but the fuggin' premonitions exist.

Just kidding, we have another big test Stanford looks much improved this season. Were gonna have to play a complete game to win this

A loss against Stanford would basically lock us in as a bubble team for awhile. Our next chance to get any sort of quality win would be Jan 18 at Wisconsin. This is a big game.

You don't want to go into your conference schedule with 5 losses, especially when your marquee/top25ish games to begin the B1G season are almost all on the road:

  • @Wisconsin(#4)
  • Home vs Iowa(#25)
  • @MSU(#5)
  • @IU(AssemblyHall/Refs)
  • @Iowa(#25)
  • @OSU(#3).

Stanford might not be a quality win, but it would certainly be a big concern if we add another loss before conference time.

I'll save everyone the trouble of reading the game thread, should we not win by 70

- GR3 isn't a D1 player

- Beilein got lucky with Burke

- Zomagawd we don't run any offense it's just drives h4yufytbfybjhbbf

- Something about not having a winning mentality

- "fuck"

- worst Michigan sports year everrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

- team will be lucky to make the NIT

- why doesn't Beilein teach defense or rebounding

 You're all welcome

This....is some stupid ass shit. You oversimplify peoples complaints, picking out the loudest and dumbest and drowing out legit criticism to be made of a team that has been pretty damn dissapointing, turning it into basically 2 lines of fuckwits throwing their own shit at each other. Acting like this or any Michigan team is above criticism is just...well it's just fucking dumb.

"2 lines of fuckwits throwing their own shit at each other" pretty much perfectly encapsulates basketball game threads.

Maybe pop four Xanax, take a deep breath, and point out where I insinuated the team is above criticism. They aren't. I was summarizing what goes on when people pop blood vessels banging their keyboards and inundating everyone else with dumb, reactionary "commentary."

But that doesn't sound like something you'd know anything about, you prince of level-headedness, you

At least we have the balls to play good teams unlike those pussies from Ohio that pad their season with no one so they can stay undefeated as long as possible...in football too. Fuck them. Go Blue

This was a typical basketball upset. The better team who has one star player gets an off night from said star player and loses. Stanford is not that good. They got zero bench points, that is not an exaggeration. Napier went 4-13 from the field (the team shot 32% from the field) and Stanford won by 2. That is not a team that scares me. This win by them only makes them a better SOS boost.

Anyone know how to watch this game? No tv info on espn.com, and mgoblue says it's on fox 1. What the hell is that?

This is a pretty big matchup that would get some viewers...why isn't it on a normal channel?

Fox Sports 1 is a newer network and should be available in most markets depending on your provider. If I am not mistaken, it is merely a national version of what Fox Sports has done for years with regional coverage (like Fox Sports Detroit where I live). If you go to your cable provider's site and check the listings, you should be able to ascertain the channel number.

We've lost to 3 top 10 teams. The PG position is still unsettled and that's what is going to happen. Going into the season did anyone really think we would make another NCAA championship run?

Finishing in the top 3 B1G is a realistic goal for this year which is somewhat a year of transition due to the loss of Burke. That said these losses to quality opponents will serve them well late in the season as these young players begin to get better. No need to panic yet, wait until late February.

Are pretty high. I dont EXPECT us to make another nat. Champ run seeing as how thats so hard to do even as the best team in the country; with timing and competition placement playing a hige rule in the tourney. I do, however, feel like we are capapble of it. Did anyone think we'd actually make it to the end last year? I bet nobody would've been willing to bet much on it. For this year, i do expect them to make a deep tourney run. So yes, my expectations are pretty high. They have stuaskus, lavert, morgan, GRIII, horfors, morgan, and spine returning (not sure if i missed anyone important) and we have Irvin and Walton who came in. I figure by the end of the year i think we will be a better all around team than we even were last year, with less star power in Burke.

Here's the issue I see going forward. Stanford is a must-win game because we NEED to get achieve an 8-4 non- conference record. And then we NEED to finish better than or equal to 10-8 in conference with a couple quality wins in there. I don't think they let us into the Tourney with anything less than an 18-12 record. Every loss at this point is going to be another nail into Michigan's tourney coffin.

I hate to be thinking of tournament math, but you're right.   Unless we catch fire and win 12 conference games again,  or - obvious is obvious - we win the B1G tourney, Stanford looks like an extremely crucial game.   Must-win?  Perhaps.   It's going to be a grueling B1G season ahead.

They will be a test but I venture Stanford is beatable. I'd rather have our competition look better so good on them for beating UConn. This is going to be more of a home game for Michigan though we will get neutral court credit. Stanford should have some fans there but I'm guessing it's going to be 63-35 or 70-30 Blue on Saturday.

I'm pretty sure we're going to destroy the Cardinal and then have worked out a few things before the bloodbath that is the Big Ten conference gets fired up.
