Stadium color uniforcation ("maize-out"/"blue-out")

Submitted by bsgriffin1 on

So I wanted to ask the board about "maize-outs" and such, and how the athletic department gets the message out to wear a certain color for a home game... I was watching the game yesterday and saw how many fans in the stadium wear whatever offiicial Michigan colors are for games besides the student section who are usually decked out in maize and anyways, I was going to the Tennesee at U. of Florida with my sister who goes there and on the home tickets they had all the information on it plus a big "WEAR BLUE"  posting on the tickets...I dont know if most of ya'll know but the Gators have many different "color" outtings for their home games like orange outs, white outs, and blue outs, and it is posted on all of their tickets of what color combo of what every fan should wear... Does Michigan post the same instructions on their tickets? I've never noticed. But it seems like a good idea to get more fans involved.

EDIT: I have been to plenty of Gator games and personally think that an "Orange-out"  is awesome, prolly because its just very vibrant throughout the stadium (but obviously we cannot do that against the dumbass Vols') But regardless its pretty cool to get most of a stadium involved and I think printing it on each one of the tickets is a great idea for unity.

Michigan did a Blue Out before and it wasn't as eye-popping as Maize outs have been.

These "Outs" will never work here. People are going to wear what they want to wear. Especially if they have jerseys they paid a lot of money for just so they can wear it at the games.

White outs work at PSU because they obviously have a white jersey.

Awesome name...but wouldn't work.

#1 - Navy isn't intimidating, lol...you really don't even notice it. That's why people started doing white outs everywhere and why the maize work so well. Black out was always the thing to do...but it's kind of "meh" in comparison. Light colors pop. We have bunch of navy bleachers, why would a code blue be intimidating?

Do a code blue and everyone where white, maize or a light color will stand out and it won't work. Do a white out and the same number of people who we're navy blend in and just look like open seats.

Go back and look at all the November games in the 90's at Michigan Stadium...they were basically all blue outs. No one wore maize back then. It was just navy and black jackets and then you'd see the colors of the visting team popping amongst the M fans.

#2 - Yellow pom poms are pom poms, but they ABSOLUTELY work. Anyone who watched UTL and UTLII could see how awesome the maize look in the crowd. And the maize pom poms cover up the people who don't wear maize.

I happen to like the coordinating of colour at the stadium.  I think that two of the reasons that they go to pom poms is because 1) it's vivid and 2) we do have the variation of clothing colours.   I see an awful loy of maize, blue, white and grey at every home game.  I also agree with MGoStrength, the recruits that we're trying to attract like it, probably as much as some like the Swoosh.

is pretty much begging for failure unless the weather cooperates tremendously.  you are reduced to wearing your yellow rain coat that you wear when you are fishing in the tough weather.  a little bit of your alaska gear on display.  dark blue much easier to do, though i get that it might not pack the visual punch of maize.

Marketing and Graphic Arts produces posters that feature all the nessasary information, they are hung all throughout the stadium, campus, and local retail stores. Ticketing and digital media send out email blasts to season ticket holders. Word is passed through campus from athletic administrators to other campus administrators which eventually gets passed down to professors and RAs.

Looks AWESOME on TV and should do more often....If you are a young recruit watching on TV those maize outs POP on screen and is impressive when u have 115,000 people...maybe its not a deciding factor in a recuits decision but it all adds up....every little bit helps
