Stadium color uniforcation ("maize-out"/"blue-out")

Submitted by bsgriffin1 on

So I wanted to ask the board about "maize-outs" and such, and how the athletic department gets the message out to wear a certain color for a home game... I was watching the game yesterday and saw how many fans in the stadium wear whatever offiicial Michigan colors are for games besides the student section who are usually decked out in maize and anyways, I was going to the Tennesee at U. of Florida with my sister who goes there and on the home tickets they had all the information on it plus a big "WEAR BLUE"  posting on the tickets...I dont know if most of ya'll know but the Gators have many different "color" outtings for their home games like orange outs, white outs, and blue outs, and it is posted on all of their tickets of what color combo of what every fan should wear... Does Michigan post the same instructions on their tickets? I've never noticed. But it seems like a good idea to get more fans involved.

EDIT: I have been to plenty of Gator games and personally think that an "Orange-out"  is awesome, prolly because its just very vibrant throughout the stadium (but obviously we cannot do that against the dumbass Vols') But regardless its pretty cool to get most of a stadium involved and I think printing it on each one of the tickets is a great idea for unity.

EDIT 2: GO BLUE and GO GATORS

I grew up in the '90's and we would never "maize out" out the stadium back then. It was just a sea of maize and blue mush and it was beautiful and it was Michigan. Penn State or Michigan State can do that along with their Spartan eye lasers and mascots. We need that as much as we need Journey blaring over the PA system.

I grew up in the same era, but respectfully disagree.  I have been to a number of white outs at PSU and think it's a great idea.  I have not been to Michigan Stadium since being a little kid, but I recall reading a recruiting roundup fairly recently where a top recruit had just visited both MSU and UM and said both game day environments were great but different and pointed out that MSU was more modern.  I love tradition, but UM should not be dated in their ammenities or technology IMO.  As a UM fan I don't take that as a positive and I doubt young recruits do either.

I grew up in PA and went to lots of Penn State games before they did the white-out thing.

Let me tell you, the white-outs, especially at night, put them on the map.  There was none of this talk about how Beaver Stadium is one of the most intimidating places to play in all of the country before then.

They created that environment.  They ddi not just stay stagnant.

pfft i like the maize out, am indifferent to flyovers and pompoms, but still hate rawk. Hell i'd rather hear the other team's band than piped in music

Other stadiums have been much louder since before rawk and it's because they live for football and there's not nearly as many wealthy old geezers.

They used to print it right out on the ticket maze out. I think it worked pretty well. Always tough since we don't have maze jerseys though and a lot of people wear them.

In person, the fact that the student section is basically a large maize entity in the northwest cornet of the bowl is really cool, in my opinion. It's hard to appreciate on TV, but the vastly maize bowl with this one corner that stands out isn't necessarily a bad look at all.

I do agree, however, that for a marquee game, going with one color or the other all over the stadium would actually look really nice, both in person and on TV.
