Just on the radio right now someone asked and a band member called in and said he was sick today. Get well soon.

I'm not sure, but I do know that he repeatedly called Cameron Gordon "Gordon Cameron."

Bobb Vergiels is fine for Comerica Park and for Crisler Arena, but few if any men have the gravitas of the sonorous voice of Carl Grapertine.

This gives me an idea. We all love Carl. How about a mgoshirt honoring the man?

Um, no!
November 6th, 2010 at 9:33 PM ^
...so why not ask him? I think he'd probably love the idea.

Carl is a radio host in Chicago of a classical music station, so he's been practicing that silky baritone for years. It's always pretty impressive to me that he's been able to make the transition to a football PA announcer. I hope he gets better. I noticed immediately when he was gone. I love his voice.

I thought Bobb did a very good job today, minus the "Gordon Cameron" mistakes. When I heard him, I thought it would be FREE PIZAAAAAA-esque, but I was pleasantly surprised that he toned it down a bit. Certainly not Carl, but not the disaster that it could've been.
Get well soon Carl, Michigan Stadium isn't the same without you.

I would pay that man good money just to sit next to my bed every night and talk to me until I fall asleep. He could tell me how long my apartment could be powered using Big House recycled trash, or that I should remember the legal drinking age is 21, or that tonight's total attendance is 2.
November 6th, 2010 at 8:01 PM ^
Let's hope you would give Carl the night off on nights with total attendance of 3+.

Play-by-play?

And his voice will wake you up at 6:00 am. Complete with Mozart and Mendelssohn.

My information is that Carl was hospitalized, but is okay. If I recall correctly, Carl missed another game or two in the past with a heart condition.
Carl, we miss you very much. Get well soon.

I definitely missed Grapentine today. It wasn't the same to hear a non-baritone voice speak over the PA.

I actually mentioned to the guy next to me who has also been going to games for about 30 years, that it felt like an away game without Our Voice.

But the voice of the MMB since 1970!! Amazing.

I didn't even notice an announcer today. I guess I was too jacked up on Mountain Dew...

Wow. I miss one game--and it's a record-setter!
Thanks for all the nice comments. I've been released from the hospital. Just a freak thing--and bad timing.
I'll be in the usual spot for the Wisconsin game.
Go Blue!
