If the kid wants number four at defensive end it doesn't matter. I've seen plenty of defensive lineman with single digit numbers. So being in the thirty's means absolutely nothing. If this was about number 1 then I would give you that. It's just a number.

At that size Butt should be playing at around 240 this fall which is great size! Taco should be around 275 which is great as well. I would assume both get time this fall!!

If he didn't enroll early, then I would absolutely agree with you. I'm hoping (praying is probably a more accurate word) that Mattison works his magic in spring practice. I wouldn't question it if he got redshirted, though.

Does anyone know how they name a position to a player on the Mgoblue Roster sheet. Courtney Avery is listed at CB but all the other CB's are listed at DB. Same thing for some of the Defensive lineman. Some are DT, DL, or DE. Would love to get some insight on this

The average size of the freshmen and redshirt freshmen on the offensive line is 6'5" and 296 lbs, and the average for all listed for the OL is 6'5" and 300 lbs. overall. Actually, on the other side of the ball,  the freshmen and redshirt freshmen DEs are about three inches taller and five pounds heavier, and the incoming players listed for DL / DT are also larger. We're also looking at a typical size of 6' and 184 lbs. for defensive backs. It's a good trend indeed.

There's been some particular interest in the OL lately, so here's the OL position group height and weight by eligibility (height in inches):

FR 78 296.0
RS FR 77 295.3
RS SO 76 306.3
RS JR 76 298.5
RS SR 79 309.0

Glad I looked up, but cause I almost posted the exact same thing...

We've already had this exact same discussion and dissection of weights.

Commence someone freaking out about our freshman being on the light side. Forgetting that they're comparing them to seniors at Alabama vs. other freshman (even Alabama freshman).

It's good to see LTT listed at 285. In pictures from last summer, I would've guessed well over 3 bills (and much of it bad). He must have worked pretty hard on S&C. Good for him.

These guys are big enough to play, although 5 pounds of muscle by fall would help each of them. Hoke is compiling a tall team that Wellman gets to mold.

Just a wild guess on their ability to contribute this fall:
Butt - 20 plays per game (regular part of rotation)
Taco - 10 plays (spot play on passing downs and some running downs, especially is Clark gets SDE reps)
Thomas - 10 plays (1-2 series a game a la Wilson last year)
Bosch - 10 plays (1-2 series); this is the long shot as Hoke likes RS on OL, but I think they'll prep him for G so Braden can move to T in 2014
Douglas - 5-10 plays in non critical game situations at nickel
LTT - redshirt
