Spring practice observation-coaches

Looking over the spring practice pictures and videos people have previously posted about I was excited to see how involved the coaches are with the players at practice. I'll admit, I haven't seen any practices at other schools, but noticed how our coaches are running, sweating, and working along with the players whenever you see them. You gotta love a coaching staff that sets the example.

Until I see a photo of Gerg putting a huge hit on someone, WITHOUT messing up his hair, there will not be enough coach involvement for my taste.

Have you been? I think it's sort of overhyped and gross. I wish it wasn't. After all, I'm hardly the type to swoop in with sweeping generalizations and blindly call gratuitous helpings of chest icicles bogus.

But, seriously, there are some homely faces and bodies (this is rather generous, actually) on that island once each summer--*OLD* faces and bodies, mostly. And they're there en masse, making up the greatest proportion.

It's basically an island party full of all of your creepy uncles, your creepy uncles' creepy friends, and all the not-obese-but-still-old-and-overweight women they could fit on board before capsizing. Sure, there are some attractive people our age (I'm in my 20s), too. But they aren't common, and they don't do much aside from that which they'd do at a good bar, like Dominick's in Ann Arbor (walk a bit, drink a bit, sit a bit, toss a football in the 'quad a bit, repeat).

I've been down the St. Clair River from my hometown (Algonac) a few times; I've always had fun, but I would have had fun on a lake island with just my friends, anyway. That part isn't tough. The environment never added anything for me. If I never go back on that particular date, then that'll be ok.

"I have long thought that anyone who does not regularly - or ever - gaze up and see the wonder and glory of a dark night sky filled with countless stars loses a sense of their fundamental connectedness to the universe."

One thing about our coaches is that they are always involved and intense. My mom went to the Women's Football Academy and took a short hard pass in the head from an intense Magee. Actually ended up in the training room with some blood and a bump for most of the day. Grady (24) actually came in the training room and hung out with her while he got some treatment so she said it wasn't a total loss.

These coaches have always been high energy. There are a couple chubsters on the staff, but guys like Dews, Gibson, and Rodriguez are constantly running and jumping around.

Compared to Penn State's coaches (the only other major college practice I've seen), Michigan's coaches are downright hyperactive. I have a lot of respect for Ron Vanderlinden, Tom Bradley, Larry Johnson, etc., but none of them really hop in the drills like Michigan's coaches.
