Michigan better close NW out here. I'd love to see Michigan win by 10+, but 3 up and 3 down the rest of the way would be great.
8-5 bottom of the 4th.

Will Brian do a UFR of the game?
In the comments section of his earlier post on the main page, he said he was going to put up a pseudo-UFR sometime next week
The first 15-20 minutes were just kicking.
And that didn't go so well.
can anyone put the game on justintv?
Throw NW's coach out! I'm not interested in her player striking out. I want to watch the replay of an intra-squad scrimmage.
how long until mgovideo mp4 will be up after replay is shown on BTN?
would probably be good. I already know more about things than I would like, but some people have probably made the effort to avoid any mention of the game.
For example, a lot of people probably don't know that the defense came out running a 2-1-8 defense.
Oops. I've said too much...
They are going to make us watch the entire softball game before showing what we all really want to see. I hope they show the entire spring game instead of doing a JIP on it.
If you set your dvr for the game, readjust - softball game is running late.
sigh... I respect you, ladies. Really I do. But please make some outs so I can fawn over DRob.
are they going to show the entire Michigan spring game w/ the softball game going over?
Hurry up ladies...
That's what she said.
Sad fact about this softball game: the pbp lady sounds way too much like Pam Ward for my liking.
if I knew it wasn't her.
I tried to listen but couldn't do it.
I will drop the BTN if they cut out any of the spring game.
But you know what it would be like if you did... you know what I mean?
This will probably be the highest rated Michigan softball game ever
Softball band sounds good anyway.
Do the women-folk play fewer innings that men due to their natural frailty and higher propensity for exhaustion? Me hopes so.
7 innings. Also fairly sure there is an 8 run rule.
Six. I think.
Edit: Shows what I know.
twunts. DO NOT FUCK WITH SPRING BALL!
How many innings do they play in softball?
EDIT: Aaaaand I'm slow.
We're running out of DAYLIGHT!!
Is this game going to be ANYWHERE online? (for free)
Since I unfortunately to do not have BTN
the whole spring game and don't join "in progress."
That softball chute was one of the most exciting parts of my day. Some mechE sophomore never has to work again because of that.
Looks like they took the downspout off my house...
Our pitcher is kinda cute. The whole Michigan logo instead of eye-black thing and ribbon in the hair is really working for her.
I'd tap it.
yep, definite 1.
The announcer (the one that doesn't sound like a man) agrees with me. As she just said (and I quote), "This is what softball is all about. Hit it, hit it, hit it."
Softball wow, this could be the slowest softball game of all time..
I guarantee that more than 90% of the people watching are waiting to see the spring game, and, yet, BTN is making its viewers suffer through the tail end of a women's softball game. Talk about not paying attention to your audience.
color me shocked.
You gotta be f...ing me in the ear!
I like looking at women softball players as much as the next guy but I need my fix of Michigan football.
there is no grass on the infield. whoa!
That's what she said.
...play ball... ;-)
in other sporting news the Habs are up 3-1 on the Caps in the 2nd
Excited number 18 N'western player is excited.
You're up by 5 with two outs. What kind of strategy needed to be discussed?
"uh, yeah, don't shit the bed. K thx."
And as I say that, Northwestern scores.
I'm not political enough to understand what you mean but +1 anyways. I'm sure if I understood it would be educated and funny.
Title IX basically created women's sports (and mandated that schools be as close to equal in men's/women's athletic scholarships given out as possible).
And it's like watching a frame-by-frame replay of the previous play
Leah, Jennie, shut your faces! No more hits! Six ground balls on the first hit or an immediate rainout.
I'm having an aneurysm.
somehow makes me more angry.
by Womens Softball - Michigan v. NW on BTN here in San Diego. Even worse, the softball game is being called by Pam Ward. I'm about to kill myself!
I spent all day doing choirs and drinking so I'd be in a proper football state of mind and this is what I get.
Pam must die! She is even horrible calling softball.
EDIT: I'll leave my original post, but I see that I'm not the only one suffering. Someone it makes me feel better. Fuckin' 6th inning.
It's actually not Pam Ward, but you could have fooled anyone here.
Dude the rest of us are getting the spring game! You're missing out, it's awesome!!!
I swear I'm going to punch a baby if I don't get the whole spring game because of this crap (well, not crap, I support the ladies. But right now it's crap).
No offense to softball, but hurry up. I need my fix.
... the batter looks like Frank Thomas.
I was thinking someone snuck Will Campbell into a softball uni.
I've already looked up the next airing in case this is cut short. It will be Monday at 10 PM.
Who the F cares about Softball! Get on with the football game!
For real? Take one for the (Football) team and just strike out three straight times. Go get some hot chocolate...you deserve it.
I have waited all day for it to be 8 and now im forced to watch softball. This has lead me to hit the bottle sooner then anticipated. Ill be blacked out before the spring game gets on tv. Nice homer by the way.
Dorain Shaw just got violent on that ball. Damn she smashed it.
Ok, now let's get to watching Mike Shaw
how many innings is this game?
That I'm rooting for everyone to strike out?
It doesn't seem to be helping, so..................maybe?
If so, we're all bad people. I'm leaving for an "extra special" date night in 20 minutes and I need something or I'm going to be really irritable.
but that was a hell of a homer.
IMHE, the announcer actually sounds like a cross between Pam Ward and Joan Cusack. Or maybe it's just me.
Damn it, I can't turn this softball off because if I do I'll get caught up in another show and forget about the spring game. Damn you BTN.
Dual tuner DVR with pic in pic, get into the new millenium:)
Does Directv actually have that?!
This is the first time my son will ever see a game on tv all the way out from Idaho. Hurry up ladies I am trying to break him in.
By the way this is my first post but have been checking in on site for a year
Northwestern's ginger pitcher sucks. Can't she starting getting some damned outs?!
... the way the Northwestern infielders fist-bump the pitcher after a strikeout.
We'll be having the UConn opener before this sandlotters-on-steroids game is over.
My cable has 4 BTN channels why can't one of them show the football game? All 4 chans showing the same softball game. In the fall they will show 2 or 3 different football games at the same time on a Saturday.
The Horror. The Horror.
3. more. outs.
There's like no way they will cut out part of the game, I mean they can't catch it in progress...nice unis, ladies, btw...
Now we don't have to feel bad. Three pitches, three groundouts, and Michigan wins--and I get to see some football.
If this wasn't tape-delayed, meaning the BTN could have scheduled it for ANY GODDAMN TIME IT WANTED, and decided to pin it to the back-end of a sporting event with no time limits.
Well played, BTN. Well played
Go Joe Vandal
lol that girl swung the bat while she was sprinting out of the batter's box.
I think I'd probably be ok with that actually................
As long as I knew the full spring game was going to be on afterwards.
Serves you all right for not making it to the game today!!!
Just kidding. I can't wait to watch it again
We need to start a new thread when the game actually starts
"Spring Game and Last 3 Innings of Michigan v. NW Softball Open Thread."
Who knew the last inning and a half of a softball game not involving drunk men stumbling around the basepaths on a Saturday could take as long as a 9 inning game of actual baseball?
The most awkward sponser of college football...
Oh wait, softball is on still. 2 more outs!
I'm running to the store right now to buy some.
Am I the only one that's going to break my TV when they cut to commercial after the game ends?
with the world? My God.
I'm sure the postgame of the softball will be good!
played for Northwestern.
/going to hell, but God owes me one for having to watch this, so I'll take my chances.
wow that is a big human being.
I have a good feeling about Denard in this spring game
Mo Vaughn plays for Northwestern's softball team!! I was wondering what happened to him
Terrance Cody, is that you?
One more out. One more out.
This is seriously getting ridiculous.
If the game went til like 5 after 8, I can handle that.
But it is now 8 fuckin 40.
I bet some feminist at BTN planned this whole thing on purpose jsut so all of us would be forced to watch womenz sports.
if they are planning on showing the whole spring game.
Nice win. but now get ready for some football!
But this sucks. Baseball and all its gender-specific variants sucks.
We will see the practice just in time to see Jack Kennedy at QB
and there was much rejoicing!
You can just sense tomorrow's print headline: "BTN Softball Telecast Achieves Record Ratings, Prompts BTN to Expand Coverage of Sport."
"Michigan win. Score more runs. Now football."
That announcer just said the pitcher won one for the "Blue and Gold"
The wait is over.
And a commercial...
ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL...Out of towners unite!
repping barbasol men
and pure silk women.
About 45 minutes...
I'm recording the Wisconsin Spring game afterwards, just in case.
Man, I had forgotten how awful the ads are on the Big Ten network.
"Look for words that describe what's in the home, like 'cedar' or 'cherry.'"
Hey they will show it from the beginning!!! Yippee!!!
Looks like a good crowd.
Go blue - I think this could be a big win for the program.
Not cutting it short
Not thank god....revisiting 1-7 and last in the B10
Looks like the full game at least. No punching of babies today.
"back of this guy's head" cam...
any care to Justintv this for the fellows like me who don't have BTN :(
We miss a Stevie Brown?
Yea, we do actually, considering he was our best LB and one of our 3 or 4 best defenders last year. Just because Stevie struggled playing deep safety as a Junior doesn't mean he wasn't a pretty darn good player last year.
Cam Gordon is a big mother fucker
They must have used the good cameras for the softball game.
This looks like Flip cameras with a dial-up back to BTN HQ.
I would skip summer vacation and go straight into fall classes/school work if it meant the season could start sooner.
I can't wait to see Denard play.
Cam Gordon looks like one hell of a physical specimen.
Please don't show the special teams! It never happened!!!
Who was snapping?
Pomaricio or Morales?
Tate's new adidas cleats are fly as fcuk.
i already hate these announcers
I watched live online earlier and believe me it doesn't get any better...
Did it go in or not?!?!?
You don't want to know.
Do they have one fucking camera here?
The NCAA doesn't allow fucking cameras anymore, as it considers fucking to be unsportsmanlike conduct.
I didn't want to see the results of these kicks anyway.
EDIT: the camera angle is matched only by the insightful analysis, which taught me that "as a kicker, your job is just to kick the ball."
... who looked like Big Papi could punt better than our guys.
We need Will H., stat!
These camera angles are quite strange to say the least.
Also, I understand this is the spring game and there's a sponsor and all that, but... Definitely don't like these amateurish PNC signs in the corners of the end zone. At all.
BTN really outdid themselves...
is why Monopolies do not benefit the general public.
For reminding me I should be studying for my econ exam on tuesday
Do kickers/punters go through the same conditioning as the other players or does Barwis develop a special type of torture for them?
... frickin' Nick Saban was walking around the field in Tuscaloosa for the Alabama spring game before 91,023 fans, live on ESPN in hi-def with a goddam skycam.
He's a massive asshole and a hell of a coach; thank god he left E. Lansing along on the charter aircraft.
Ask not what your holder can do for you...
"jack kennedy is on the outside looking in for the QB job"
actually #30, Doug Rogan.
The announcer actually just said "for all intensive purposes".
Glad someone else caught that.
Oh boy here comes the punts. I think I will change the channel
Are the special ed kids in the orange helmets?
on punt return:
No the special ed kids are in the broadcast booth.
here's where it got ugly
This is sad to be honest.
If so I'm on tv during the kicking! Whoo Hooo!
I'm the blue dot in the middle left of 18...
Assume that all have a 5.0 hang time and net of 55 yards. The cameras can't pan out that far.
You said "cameras." Plural.
There seems to be only one camera, which was conveniently placed on top of Pioneer High.
good catch, i am glad to see the camera is showing the receivers catching the ball and not just Denard throwing.
Here we go! The good stuff
definitely looks like a keeper. The whole line looks, uh, bulkier, that should be a plus in the running game.
Is there someone doing play-by-play over the PA system? Who is it? If Shep and Campbell would shut up for about 5 seconds I would be able to answer this question myself...
Beckman and Brandstatter. They would not shut up. All forms of commentary for this game were absolutely atrocious.
... can you wait until RR gives Denard the entire offense?
It's Beckmann and Brandstatter
that's a ball Denard would have run last year. Me gusta.
Brandy and Beckman
Just as an FYI, for those who were unable to attend the game, Lewan was a beast.
I remember on one run by Denard he was down field, looking for someone to block, and he finds a guy and just destroys him, creating open space for Denard.
Hopefully that type of nastiness carries over to the regular season.
Guaranteed lock to start at right tackle this year. This kid takes every play as an opportunity to kick someone ass into the ground, then stomp on their limp, lifeless body.
He is going to be special.
I think he will be at left tackle
Interesting that Tae Odoms was playing outside receiver today.
Add some awesome tattoos on Lewan's triceps and some more lbs, we have Jake Long Jr.
Robinson handled the offense very nice.
I can't wait to move just over the border into PA in two weeks (in MD now). BTN on basic cable will be worth the move by itself.
Also, isn't that Tate in on the last scoring play?
the whole scrimmage was a step up from last year for him. With a few months left before the UCONN game, I think he has a solid chance at being the starter.
boomed by... Tate? I don't know how to feel about this...
... were last worn by this guy on a Transatlantic flight:
Anyone know what RR's base offensive set was at WVU?
Was it what we have now? (3 WRs, 1 TE, 1 RB)
Or was it 4 WRs, 1 RB?
I wonder what the chances are that's our base set this year.
Our 2 best WRs are Odoms and Roundtree, a base 4 WR set means they're both on the field more often, since they're both slots.
Tay and Roy have both been getting work on the outside this spring FWIW.
Did that happen originally during the first broadcast on the net? I mean the cut to the next series with Tate. Makes me think I'm missing something.
he pooches real well, definitely going to be a weapon in the arsenal...
"Whenever anyone buys me a bouquet of flowers I feel loved."
On a side note, Mr. Ovechkin and the Caps have woken up.
That was a hell of a nice play.... both by Gardner and Moore.
Does it look like Gardner is moving back before the snap?
He did that in several of the clips shown on Inside Michigan Football.
Got some of those nerves out with that one, then proceeds to arm punt it on the next play.
I went from 6 to midnight when Devin walked on the field in a Michigan uniform.
Jack Kennedy Fucks.Shit.Up
Jack Kennedy, hit of the day on Odoms...on the sidelines.
Jack Kennedy now a linebacker, Tate is our new punter, and Taylor Lewan is f-ing huge.
haha I just watched that movie last night
97 yards, BOOYAH
Was that great offense or really bad defense?
Last year that play would have stopped a yard shorter.
WORST PLAY BY PLAY EVER
Run coverage so far looks pretty good.
Banks looks legit.
Yeah he does
Capitals and Habs are going to overtime tied at 5.
Ubaldo Jimenez has a no-hitter in the 9th for the Rockies.
It's offical NO-HITTER!
Cox up the middle for the score!!!
That's never going to get old. :-)
Lewan looks really good. Good footwork on pass protection, and he showed some great push on that touchdown.
No hitter for Jimenez
just busted a big run on the 1st team defense... These guys will hopefully get better over the summer. I still hope DDorsey makes it to AA this fall.
Chances DD actually qualifies: Slim to none, and slim is riding off into the sunset slumped over his horse.
Oh yeah, we could use us some Demar...I like 'No Fly Zone'!
Great block by Denard on that one. Did a good job of sniffing out the defender and planting a shoulder on him.
Did anyone catch that on the end around? Nice, pure nice. Dude is a stud.
Edit: Touche BlockM, +1 for beating me to it.
The good news: we both beat the announcer to it!
Good one. I think he was too busy explaining why Troy WoolFORK wasn't playing today.
Otherwise I'm tweaking it, fair or not.
Realistically, it should be in the triple digits, but 99 is the next best thing. I'm not even joking.
I'm thinking like 106.
(add what they cheated him out of last year too).
And for accel, I put it at 99. I know QB's shouldn't have that kind of speed because it makes it too easy, but for him, it's not far-fetched.
Suddenly, Tate looks slow as molasses, but then again he does have a bum foot/ankle...
I'm giddy about Lewan. He locks up everyone he comes in contact with. He's got some serious rage and anger issues out there. I like that.
I absolutely LOVE how Denard protects the ball as soon as he decides to run. He had a lot of trouble with fumbling last year, and he seems to be protecting the ball very well right now.
He did a nice job staying in the pocket on that TD throw.
Great play by him, and not to be a Debbie Downer BUT... He had all day to make that play. The only way he has a chance to make that play is because our 1st team O-Line held our 2nd team D-Line for so long.
In a real game, does he get the chance to make that play?
But I think our O-line is going to be pretty stout this year. I think we're going to enjoy seeing these QB's have some time to pick apart the opposing D's.
Also, Denard doesn't make that throw last year even with all day to throw. Whether against the 1s or the 2s, he has made a quantum leap from last year.
Forcier probably would have taken off and not let the play develop even with that protection. I like seeing the QB's stay in the pocket when it's warranted.
Stupid Montreal blew it against the Caps. Washington wins in OT
Montreal just shit on their golden goose. They stole fizzy lifting drinks.
Holy Fuck! Keith Jackson?!?!?!?!?11! Oh I am so tuning in to watch him talk about the Big Ten.
at the blown up version of your avatar? Who is that?
And not the coat of arms that follows it.
It's Lucy Pinder.
Hahaha... this joker just said, "practice session or 'spring game', if you will." LOL there's no "if you will" about it, that's what it's called!
My roomies and I have already made a drinking game out of listening to these announcers. Every time the phrase, "if you will" is used it's 2 drinks. We're all pretty buzzed right now, or drunk, if you will.
We did the same with "having said that".
Man Kennedy looks impressive. I'm not even kidding, either.
when i was doing the live blog i turned into the biggest kennedy cheerleader if you will
Having said that, he's still on the outside looking in when it comes to the QB competition.
But I think it's kinda cool they're broadcasting the graduation with the President's speech. I'll watch it.
It'd be more awesome if I was a senior student.
That's got to be a nightmare for secret service. Holding a speech at a huge football stadium.
He accepted the nomination for President in front of a huge stadium? And as impressive a facility as Michigan Stadium is I doubt it quite matches the crowds in Grant Park on Election Night or on the National Mall on Inauguration Day.
It's not so much the size of the crowd as the location, being on the ground surrounded by elevated seating in all directions.
I have high hopes for him.
but maybe it has something to do with the emotional damage it would do to everyone in the stadium if one of the QBs broke a leg in front of them.
Actually, you're probably basically right. To have someone get hurt the last day of spring in an exhibition would be needless and costly.
I love how easy it is to find GERG on the sidelines with that beautiful silver mane shining like a beacon.
We're so hosting more softball open threads. Wish I could have seen it. Damn no BTN in this complex.
Brian was right. I was skeptical, but he looks pretty freakin awesome. God it's great to have depth at QB.
Denard looks a lot better. Forcier looked meh. Gardner probably needs a reshirt. Roundtree still looks like the go-to guy. Odoms and Miller had a few catches. DLine played pretty good against the run, at least the runs up the middle. Kovacs had some nice tackles, especially on Hopkins. Kicking and punting this year will give many people heart attacks.
Wasn't he also in a walking boot earlier this week? He might still be a little dinged up.
All in all, we have a lot to be excited about at QB. It would only have taken one or two more plays in a few games last year to make us 8-4 or 7-5. This year should be fun.
that made him call out DG as the one who impressed him most?
I LOLd when the guy said "Devin Gardner is probably nervous since he's playing in close to a full stadium".
You want stats for a practice? Really?
Haha, I was thinking the exact same thing...
To the OP:
They definitely don't keep stats for the spring game. I guess all I can tell you is that Denard accounted for four TDs (1 Rush, 3 Pass), and looked great, as did the first team D against the second team O. Roundtree and Tay looked solid. The RB battle will continue to be wide open, and Lewan is a beast.
Is it just me or does Taylor Lewan look like a mirror image of Jake Long? He looks HUGE out there, and I'm extremely excited about this kid.
Yea, I definitely did a few double takes at first. He looks like a future stud.
SIAP: Top Ten plays from today:
That 97-Yard touchdown pass from Denard, was placed perfectly! Denard really impressed me today.
The O-Line looked greatly improved, and that's without our best lineman, Molk. Once we get him back we should be pretty good in the trenches. What impressed me the most today was Denard's progression as a quarterback. He was reading the defense, making good throws and good decisions. We've all said that once he develops as a passer, look out, because he already has All-American wheels. Sure, there was "wtf moments" at times throughout the day, but overall this team is becoming what we were hoping it would.
God, the defense looks horrible.
I can't say I came away stoked, but there were some gleams in the look of some of the personnel: Gordon, Lewan, Patterson, and Shoelace, all guys we heard little if anything from last year look prepared to step up their games. The biggest single concern, what is going on with JT?
Overall, the team is STILL too young; we need at least another year to accurately gauge how well the offense truly works. We have no 'Senior' leadership but hopefully we have enough moxie to have a successful season.
Defensively, did we really see much? Patterson looked good out there, Big Will looked the part; overall, the defensive personnel appear that they have made progress across the board, and that's with the loss of Brandon and Stevie. Again, with the caveat that the 'D' didn't tip it's hand out there. I do look forward to seeing if Demar can make an impact his first year...if he's here.
