On now on B1G Network, B1G Elite, featuring the '97 team, followed by coverage of the spring game-type thing.
Anyone know of an online stream for free?
Is it not streaming until 2? because otherwise it isn't working for me
weird, works for me. right now its showing the 1997 team with brain griese and in commercials it shows "your watching BTNGO"
whoever put that steam up many thanks
it's barely working now....
I wonder why its a problem for you guys. It is probably one of the highest quality streams I have ever watched. Most of the games I end up watching on first row are like grainy 1990s quality. Wonder if it changes based on your internet speed
If anyone finds a different one I would be extremely happy.
Going to start drinking some kool-aid
I'm just here for the first 5 yd run when I will then proclaim all is ok..
No, the first 5 yard run will draw a "our defense is going to kill us this year!' reaction.
Not sure if thread worthy or if it was already posted, but Josh Furman posted a picture of himself on instagram at Oklahoma St. and it looks like that is where he is going.
that would be something if a guy who wasn't going to play here and looked lost on defense at times ends up at school like Ok State.
They've never exactly been a defensive powerhouse. I can see him being a "what the hell?" type of addition.
Josh Furman has eligibility left? He has to be pushing 30 by now.
Does anybody know what it costs to park at this thing? I can't remember.
Also, can you bring in bags (e.g. diaper bags) or is the usual policy in effect?
Poster, help thyself: http://www.mgoblue.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/040214aaa.html has the parking info, but nothing about a gate policy.
Watching this Big Ten Elite has made me realize:
As much crap as we have gone through the past ten years as a football program, there isn't a school I'd rather associate with than the University of Michigan.
How much weight did he gain?
he looks like he's been on the same winter conditioning program I've also been on...
@nickbaumgardner: 1st O (as of now): LT Cole, LG Bosch, C Miller, RG Kalis, RT Braden, QB Gardner, WRs Funchess/Canteen/Norfleet, RB Green, TE Williams
So...any Hoke/headset confirmations yet?
No but I'm concerned that he is wearing sleeves today. Hoke has gotten soft. Someone get that man a tank top!
All-Maize is the new look.
No Shephard....he was not an animal inside at TE. Outside he was a boss though
the funchise looks huge
Geez...can't even get a tackle for loss on this OL. D is terrible.
I wish this was an actual game. I understand injury concerns but as we have seen, players can get injured just working out.
Seeing them do some 7on7 would be fun. There's enough depth to pull that off I think.
So, did they cut in late? Looked like it was the tale end of actual 11 v 11 scrimmaging right when they cut in.
Hey Chuck is here....sweet
Yeah I'm confused... I know this isn't an actual "game," but I figured they'd at least be scrimmaging, and hopefully for more than just one possession.
They said on the broadcast that the actual scrimmage comes later
There is lots of buzz about Jourdan Lewis this spring.
Is my BTN the only one showing warm-ups and not the Spring Game?
scrimmage is later
Didn't see that coming
I had heard he beat out countess.
I heard he would bump Countess to NB if the defense plays lots of nickle
If a sophomore is beating out one of the B1G's best corners, that is a great thing. That's where our depth starts to pay huge dividends.
That's exactly what was happening last year. Countess would bump down to nickel and they would bring another CB onto the field. Stribling/Lewis got a lot of play that way.
I remember Lewis looking really good at The Opening when he was a HS senior. He was super skinny and needed a couple sammiches to play college ball though. So if he was able to bulk up, I can definitely see that.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Lewis was much more highly rated as a recruit. I get the feeling that our young cb's have higher ceilings than our starters.
I like the way the all maize qb unis look, just saying.
Guh, this is the most boring thing ever. Get to the actual scrimmage type stuff already.
Is the plan to have a scrimmage at the end or do we not know?
scrimmage "later " they said . i bet its coming up in just a few minutes
Pipkins' butt looks funny....
Really looking forward to the "game" portion of this. Ha ha
Since when do they just do normal practice drills for the Spring Game? I know the scrimmage part is happening later, but this is pretty boring.
I think its been this way for a few years. They haven't had the depth for an actual game in years.
But they've scrimmaged usually the whole time. This one had individual position groups praticing for awhile.
Noooooooo - App State!
This would be much better if the coaches were mic'd up.
Fuck this - I've been working since 0630 this morning on some BS for work. I'm going to buy beer. Go Blue.
An actual play.
Speight hands off the ball very well, with much confidence :)
I was surprised to hear that Lewis seems to be running with the 1's. I thought for sure Taylor would be back in his same role and even that Stribs looked better than Lewis last year. It will be interesting to see how our DBs play out this year between Taylor, Lewis, Stribs, Peppers, Thomas, and Clark. I am a little disapointed how small D. Thomas still looks. For such a high level recruit he does not look the part of a BCS safety yet.
Marcus Ray said Norfleet bubble screens :)
Fleet is obviously short, but dude looks stacked! He may be the best put together guy on the field. He makes a lot of guys around him look skinny.
Funchess and Gallon were top tandem WR's ever in U-M history? Sheesh - that's crazy
Well Gallon was the single highest WR is UM history correct? That's a pretty good headstart to the highest duo record.
Why the hell are they cutting away from actual plays to get interview? What the hell. Just missed another snap.
Show the freaking plays!!!
This broadcast has been pointless so far. Is MGoBlue.com running the cameras?
wud love a stream that actually works .....
You haven't missed much, if anything thus far.
Yeah. I have no idea what's going on.
Good crowd though. I wonder if they know what's going on.
I wish we were playing in the Final Four tonight.
I like cheese. Especially swiss. I can take or leave cheddar.
The second comment in this thread is a link that works.
Mattison just said Ryan hasn't played linebacker since high school(?)
He must have meant middle.
I really hope they re-mix the coverage for the 8pm broadcast. Whoever is directing the program is doing a terrible job. Why would you switch away just before a snap to show someone standing on the sidelines?
Don't know if you caught the Northwestern "spring game" earlier at 11 am, but the coverage was very similar. Lots of cutaways to interviews and very few actual snaps were shown. Lots of drills. Hopefully they'll show more when it comes to the actual scrimmage.
This is seriously the worst sports program I've ever watched. Completely disorganized, cutting away from actual material for commercials and interview while showing the walk-though positional drills. Are they actually going to scrimmage? Are the coaches/AD/BTN actively trying to piss off the fans?
I feel like I snuck in under the fence and am watching something I was not supposed to see.
They're giving a nearly live experience of watching a practice. Watch here, watch there, check out the cheerleader, eat a hot dog, go to the rest room, text a friend, log on mgoblog.
Jesus! Don't show the freaking coach yelling! Show the actual play! I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!
Mone is HUGE! Hopefully him and Pipkins can give us a nice brick wall in the middle and occupy enough blockers to free our linebackers.
Caught Mone crushing Kugler back 10 yards on a drill, fwiw.
I saw that as well. Our D needs someone to occupy some O-lineman. I think keeping our linebackers free will make the D a lot better.
This is painful.
On that drill with only half the o-line vs 2 d-line players and one LB...the o-lineman are getting pushed back on ever snap...yikes. There is no hole for the RB between the center/guard/tackle.
Well that's the thing with the zone blocking they're doing. I mean, I don't think OL getting pushed into the backfield is good, but with zone blocking, backside cuts open up often. If the DL wants to go one way, then you can let him, ride him that way and seal him. I'm not sure what they're looking for specifically in that drill though, so maybe they don't want them cutting backside everytime. Tough to say if it would work consistantly without the backside blocking. Either way, your OL getting plowed into the backfield usually always disrupts the running game. But it may not be quite as disasterous as it would in a man-gap type scheme or a zone stretch.
that our guys just need more practice with the zone scheme? Most of them have only just started working with it, right? At least the way Coach Nuss wants it done.
They said scrimmage is next. Lets hope they just show the plays.
Speight just looks like a Michigan quarterback.
That caught me off guard
I was thinking the exact same thing.
He looks pretty similar to me.
Reminds me in a way of Navarre. But hopefully without all the "what the hell was that" type of throws. Would gladly accept a Navarre type guy. He could frustrate you but also could make some big time throws.
Even though our OL will likely be garbage, I like how our RBs look. Seems like Derrick and Deveon have definitely lost weight but both still look like wrecking balls. Would be nice to see some OL progress to help them out.
Deveon looks like a beast. I hope he plays as good as he looks.
Wow between the coverage the constant buffering this is unwatchable
No no no oh my!
From the sounds of it, I made the right choice watching the Tigers game so far.
Oooh, looks like ere's going to get a play here.
And the WVU gold jerseys look like shit.
Yay, interception.... Oh wait.
He threw it to the winged helmet, just like Fielding Yost planned.
I think you meant "Fritz Crisler".
Based on only one play the hype is real with Jourdan Lewis
Horrible throw, Devin -- run!
This is a practice, and they are practicing throwing the ball on that play. In a game, he would not have thrown that. Calm the f down.
Yes, an INT, awesome.
The offense looks... interesting.
Why wasn't anyone checking Gardner on the boot? Also, terrible throw.
Deveon Smith with the ones and Green with the twos.
Derrick Green = Mark Ingram?
WTF Shepard. Please tell me he's not in the running.
Are we executing toughness?
Almost had the beautiful timing throw under pressure
I thought Glasgow was suspended for the spring?
Good to see Drew Dileo back on the roster... wait, that was Drew, wasn't it?
For a second, I really thought it was
What time does the final four start?
1809 EDT - Florida-UConn :)
Isn't college basketball over?
at least it is for me.
RJS playing a lot of SAM/WDE.
Justice Hayes - meet Jake MF Ryan
So. Elite defense this year is what I'm taking away from this.
So far no negative run plays :)
So far, nothing more than 1.5 positive yards runs :(
I'm surprised I haven't heard much of anything about Ferns. I know we are deep and experienced at LB, but with his size, ability, and recruiting profile I figured we'd hear a little more about him.
He's been sort of inured all spring. Ankle.
Defense looks more aggressive so far... Flowing very quickly to the ball
Seriously, Gardner is shotputting the ball again. Not impressed.
This. Is. Brutal.
Jourdan Lewis Hype Train?
Our Offense looks absolutely atrocious.
Well, the offense looks brutal.
Offense very unimpressive, Funchess is a beast, but needs to work on his hands.
Gardner throwing behind his receivers....as usual.
Whoot - Canteen!
One ref looks like he outweighs any of the players.
Freddy Canteen W I D E open for a long gain!
Well, the offense looks brutal
Keep in mind:
1) They said defense would look better than offense
2) Keep on mind most of those initial run plays were "black zone" plays backed deep against their own goal line. The object isn't to rack up huge yardage, it's just to get breathing room.
I like Marcus Ray as an analyst.
Freddy F'in Canteen. He is the offense so far
Can't wait to see the UFR
These QBs are throwing horribly, are they nervous?
There is 15-20 mph winds
is Devin gonna throw to anybody else but Funchess
Gardner looks not very good, but everyone else on offense is better than I expected (yay, lowered expectations). I know the defense is pretty vanilla, but the O Line seem to be getting their assignments way more than I remember them doing last year.
Our secondary is impressing me, I think a few of the young guys are going to be pretty good. They're playing a lot tighter coverage for sure.
all of the QB's look like poop. this is going exactly as predicted
Overall, I hate how things look so far.
Then don't watch. It's a practice.
Spring game is a success then!!
when you change your username to "FreddyCanteen", do you have to start back at zero MGPs?
Thank god from aggressive pass coverage
Our offensive line does not look like it improved much at all >:(
I want to see Delonte play this year.
Damn Hollowell with that hit
Gallon just got decked by Delonte
Poggi owning his blockers
G Glasgow as RT, interesting.
Has Darboh been in yet?
Obvious facemask that didn't even prevent big gain: "That's a good defensive stop right there."
Shepard is killing me.
Thank god these Maize uniforms are only for the spring game.
.... I hope, all other M teams seem to have a hard on for yellow as our main color.
Sports Maize works in: Basketball, Hockey, wrestling, volleyball, soccer
Sports it doesn't work in: Football, softball, baseball, lacrosse
And for soccer I think all white looks so crisp and classic, I'd rather see that than mazie. Volleyball and wrestling are iffy ones for me too.
Well at least Freddy Canteen looks good! Living up the hype so far.
No excuses now - this is a Hoke team. Let's go Blue!!!!
That is what I like to see from Green!
I hope that he can actually break tackles in the future.
Morris looks terrible.....oh noes
I don't know what you're basing that on. Morris is our best passer, IMO. We have a very capable backup.
So we are still useless against the blitz. even a delay blitz.
Well, Poggi really got owned on the edge there by...a TE? What?
Mason Cole looks really good. My prediction he's a starter. I don't know if he'll displace Braden or Mags, but he looks better than what I've seen from both so far.
Well you haven't seen anything from Mags. He's injured.
Saw him last season (this year) in his second year in the program. Cole after only a few months in the program looks better.
I can see either Mags coming back to play LT, bumping Cole to LG or vice versa,
Nice block from Glasgow to open up a hole for Hayes
This year looks like its going to be more brutal than last.
Wow, seriously? It's frickin April. They're not playing Appy State next week.
This guy has posted nothing but negatives.
DL makes a play? "OL still looks like shit"
Green gains 5 or 6? "DL still can't do shit"
And getting a hefty MGoReturn on his investment.
This year looks like its going to be more brutal than last.
Khlid Hill missed that block
That was a good enough pass, but a more amazing effort by the secondary.
Ouch Khalid Hill got owned by Brennan Beyer
I might be in the minority but with this offense being so young I'd like to see the defense dominate. Other than 1 S and the DTs this defense has experience everywhere and needs to dominate for UM to have a good season. Not MSU 2013 dominate but top 2-3 Big 10 defense. They should be smothering this offense that is aside from Devin and Funchess and Glasgow all underclassmen.
Even with an experienced offense the defense will usually be ahead this time a year as defense is read and react and offense is everyone being on the same page which takes time.
Beyer TFL is vintage OL play from last year. Ugh. They had a few plays before that that actually looked pretty good.
How has Ryan been in the middle? Haven't seen much of him.
Now that was a great safety play by Wilson
Was that Woodson giving him props after that play?
His footwork has not improved , heaving, not throwing.
Looking like Gardner, bad decision making, mechanics are off and he's inaccurate. If he hasn't developed these skills so far, I don't foresee a break thru in the next 4 months.
Not all that surprising, he was on crutches for a couple months.
I hope this is an indication of how good our defense will be.
and even inveterate homer Brandstatter is subtly criticizing Gardner's accuracy, or lack therof.
First time throwing outside in months after a busted ankle and 20 MPH winds are the kinds of things that will make a QB look rough around the edges.
Hayes has looked like the most impressive back today based on this extremely small sample size.
This run game is BRUTAL to watch
One thing I am liking is that these guys are hitting very hard.
This offense is putrid.
Nice cuts, running for his life, offense looks like they have not practiced.
Defense looks like they're getting anything they want on the blitz through.
Still spring, I expect Nuss and co. will be looking at the film and finding ways to correct this.
It really sounds like the OL simply can't block anybody.
C'mon, Gardner - hit your boy Canteen
Canteen is gonig to be making some DBs look silly for a long time at Michigan.
Jake Ryan knifed into the backfield like a laser beam. I can see why they moved him. If he can make the reads, he'll be a nightmare to contend with for opposing teams.
A few plays before, he took on a lead blocker and shed pretty well. Kind of got caught up in the wash and RB cut backside, but it was still nice to see him take on a blocker near the LOS.
Expect a lot of 6-0 wins folks ;)
A pick-6 is worth 7.
Extra points are now automatic!!!
Well that was pretty much a perfect throw down the sidelines. And a perfect drop.
Gardner-led offense is pretty bad
Jeez, Blake Countess and Desmond Morgan are already seniors?? I haz a sad.
Blake is a RS Junior
Countess isn't, or won't be. RS his sophomore year due to injury.
Love me some Willie Henry
Still think that this offense will only click if we use Gardners legs first, so far pro style passing and trad run game non existent.
This offensive line is going to be a joke again.
and Borges can't be blamed any more.
Luckily, we kept Funk, so we can still blame him.
It is going to be even worse than last year.
Yeaaaahh we need Lindsay bad.
Also, people ragging the O against the D.
It's spring. The defense is finally filled to the brim with upper classmen. The offense, outside of Gardner, does not.
Also, Poggi looks really slim for a guy that was listed to be a DT.
True, but come on. This offense is worse than bad. They can't do anything.
So it's the 2011 offense?
It sounds really awful, but I have to keep in mind they're learning a new offense, presumably with new terminology in addition to new plays/schemes, etc., whereas the DL is continuing under its existing coaches.
So it's 2008 awful?
Hoke said at the beginning of the week that 80% of Nuss's offense would be implemented
but they still need serious reps at running it. Everyone freaking out today is probably a premature ejaculator too.
The O has done nothing, not even base plays
The guys that are penciled in as starters actually look ok. The 3rd stringers and back-ups are, predictably, getting owned.
Coaches put Henry on 3rd team defense - sending a message to the young fella.
Bellomy right back where he left off
no point in having them ruin their confidence like this.
Dear god they were playing Timber during plays.
I'm so glad I'm not there.
Now Rock and Roll all Night.
Why are they playing any music at all?!?!
Is this the part where we bitch about the music selections?
I do like how our D-line looks. Just hope it isn't a case of a bad O-line making it look better than it really is. Speaking of O-line I really hope Lindsay comes here! Any and all experience is only going to help our blocking.
Hurst has great explosion off the line
LOL...some of you need to come back from lala land. Get a grip....its the spring money grab practice.
The part of the offense that works is the 15% not yet installed.
The defense is clearly ahead of the offense which was expected. Tough to say if the defense is elite or they're playing an offense that still needs to gel and work to get better. Michigan State's offense was pretty brutal to start their year but they improved enough to where their team was one of the elites to end the year.
It's now how you start it's how you finish so there is a lot of work left to do but they have time to improve. I do think we'll know a fair amount after two or three games. Just a lot of unknowns right now.
D beating a weak and unorganized O. Elite? We can only hope..
There's a big hole for a big rushing gain.
People realize that last part was the third string right?
First rule of MGoBlog:never miss an opportunity to bitch.
is really impressing.
Deveon Smith impresses the hell out of me. I'd be surprised if he didn't pass Green on the depth chart at this rate.
Based solely on their HS highlight videos, I always thought Smith was more impressive.
It's a good problem when you have two good young running backs.
Smith's got a little Mike Hart YAC in him.
Woo running backs!
Need to see better execution on these offensive plays
Yea, and more physicalness.
Did Stribling phase out of this dimension again?
So yeah... Chad Linsday please come.
The door looks open.
Wide Florida sink hole open.
We have loads of talent in OL. They are just incredibly young. Patience sucks.
I'd love to have him come in, but I have to say I was pretty impressed with Kugler for most of the scrimmage.
will be compared to dileo by announcers in any/every game that he plays. this is unavoidable.
but honestly how many snaps do you see him getting with Fleet, Canteen, and the rest? I see Canteen possibly being our top threat this year...he gets separation. I could also see him getting a shot returning kicks.
I've always had a soft spot for Green, but eventually the proof is in the pudding. Smith just seems TOUGHER. More likely to inflict pain on a tackler. I'd love to see Green adopt that when he hits his first tackler. If not though, I could see Smith surpassing him.
I was front row at the practice today. Smith looks like the guy to me. Green had a look on his face that seemed to me like he was discouraged.
If Smith gets the nod, you have a hungry and RESTED guy getting snaps too.
Hayes looks bulked up a bit and still very quick. I think he gets a lot more PT this year too. Haven't heard how Drake Johnson's recovery is going. I had high hopes for him.
I'm liking how aggressive the defense is playing. They're blitzing as much as they did in 2011.
Marcus Ray speaks the truth. Defense has to lead this team and has the tools to do so. Mr Swag needs a big year of coordinating.
I'm not a huge fan of his voice for PBP, but IMHO he's doing a good job of describing the action, and sounds thoroughly knowledgeable about the players, schemes, and plays.
That was a horrible blitz block by Green
Yeah, it was not so good. Morris lucky to get that off.
You never want to show too much on Offense in the Spring Game.
Um, mission accomplished.
They don't have a whole lot to show at this stage in the game, probably.
Didn't Nuss say that about 60% of the offense was installed?
Yeah, the 60% that stunk. They are saving the other 40% hidden for App.St.
If you don't pronounce it correctly, they'll throw an APPLE AT 'CHA. Get it?
BTN, step into my office 'cause you're fucking fired.
Ha they show and hour and 15 minutes of drills and then leave the broadcast while the scrimmage is still going on. So they can run an offseason Big Ten football report show that could have fucking waited 15 minutes.
Yeah that was bizarre. There wasn't even a sign-off or anything. It was just "well, see ya later!"
Are they seriously cutting out of the broadcast when the scrimmage is still on> How the fuck did the AD and BTN not coordinate this? God the BTN is the worst.
I'm writing off the offense for this year. They are slow and getting bullied. The defense looks good, but I'm not sure if that's because the offense is just that bad.
You do realize this was just a few practice drills in April?
Yes, and what we saw was brutal. No improvement on moving the line of scrimmage.
They've only had 15 practices in an all new offense. They'll get better. I was most encouraged by the secondary actually. One on one they looked really good.
In April, under a new coach, with young guys running a NEW scheme?
I'm writing YOU off.
And now the Big Ten Football report show says "thats about all for your Michigan highlights. Of course thats all, cuz you fucking cut away from programming while the damn scrimmage was still going on. Seriously, what other live programming do they have today that they couldn't have gone over the alloted time?? Fucking dumb.
Thank goodness we have the OL coach who led Colorado State to seasons of 4-7, 6-6, 4-8, and 3-9 before hooking up with Hoke. I have to imagine that Funk and Tony Gibson share notes.
Good lord, people. The overreacting in here is scary. 15 practices under a new system and people are writing off the season?? Take a drink and calm down.
follow it up with a few more drinks. STIFF drinks. With a chaser.
It might take that much.
I'm going with a 5-7 record and Hoke will be rode out of A2 on rails! No, just kidding. You cannot judge at this point how the offense will perform. It's about what I expected the more loaded upper class-men defense is way ahead of the offense!
I remember in 2008/09 when these threads were full of "holy shit people are gonna score 100pts every game on us!" Now we have a solid defense and people are bitching.
The problem is that (hyperbole about 100 pts aside), the holy shit people were right. Our defenses were abysmal in 2008-09.
